I understand. Its NP.

PS - it will cost you more in the long run fooling around trying to save another $10 or $20 than it would if you just pay the extra coin and start mining with another 5870 ASAP. It will make that coin back really quick.

disclaimer: it's quite late here and I'm almost at the end of a 2 week intense deadline, so take my words with the appropriate amount of salt Smiley

You beg to differ in what way? I was only asking 1 coin for shipping. It costs that much to ship locally. Its going to cost significantly more than that to ship international. 1 coin to ship is more than fair.

BTW i hear if you declare it as a "gift" you dont pay tax.

I beg to differ regarding your statement that you will not eat all of the costs. In hindsight it makes a lot less sense than I though it did when I wrote it.

The one extra coin you are asking is fair, I didn't say it isn't. What I said was that I was already over my budget, yours would be the most expensive 5870 I'd buy, a good part of the total cost would be just for shipping and as such I was in one of those situations where after I made my proposal I would stick by it, but regretted the commitment the moment after I clicked 'post'.

You made it easy for me, asking for that extra coin. It's just one coin, it's fair, but it is nonetheless one more coin on a price I already think is too steep, so thanks, but no thanks.

PS: there was a time when marking as 'gift' would work, nowadays all 'gift' marked items get verified and if they think the item has any value I either have a receipt for it (which is stupid, if it's a gift, but hey) or they charge for whatever they decide the 'fair market price' is. Complete morons!

Just declare the package a low customs value.

That's what I do when I ship international

I beg to differ Smiley Nevermind then, I was already pushing my well defined price limits on this one. You are correct, the int'l shipping makes it too expensive and on top of that coming from outside Europe I may end up paying taxes when going through customs, not worth the trouble at that price.

Good luck, though, it's a very nice mining card, already have one of those!

Shipping international is expensive. Add one more coin and you have a deal. I'll still be paying the majority of the shipping but Im not gonna eat all of it.

How would cooler be better when its not on top of the GPU?
the position of the fan relative to the GPU die doesn't matter. there's a copper base and/or heatpipes that direct the heat to wherever the fan is. the heat exhaust ill be blown in the opposite direction of the fan. if the fan is in the middle, it'll just blow heat in all directions. you'd want some kind of directional airflow, but these kinds of coolers/fans are "centrifuge" type coolers, which are a bit loud

in most situations, non-reference is preferred. it will cool better at a lower noise. the only time you'd prefer a reference card is when you stack 4 of them on a motherboard inside a case. this is because most of the heat will get exhausted outside of the case for reference cards, but non-ref cards shoot the heat everywhere. in an open case or test bench setup, this doesn't matter, but inside a high density case, it will

Hmm, Im not sure Im convinced of that yet. The GPU is in the center of the PCB board. I would assume the fan being directly over the GPU would be better than a fan at the end of the card.

Also, if the reference cards have better coolers why would they swap them with less efficient coolers? That doesnt make any sense. Any revisions should be a step forward not backwards.

You mean the volts arent locked yes? The reference coolers are garbage tho. You cant really give it more volts cause the coolers cant handle it. Personally I would rather have an improved cooler than unlock volts.

actuallly reference cards have better coolers because the fans are at the end of the card instead of the middle.

they actually work to cool the card when you have 4 stacked in the same case. (refer to my thread for photos on my reference 5870s)

LOL nice pic.     Grin

My 5870 is not reference. Box says HD-587X-ZN Ver 1.2.

Why do reference sell for more?

Because reference can be unlocked to get more power out of them.
