just an fyi if you are trying to solo mine you'll need a relay node to notify your miner that the block has changed else you will be working on old useless work.
Not true when solo mining with cgminer which checks for new blocks automatically and will update as soon as possible.

yep if you got in the bfgminer folder and your on the same pc as the qt client and synced is running and you have added the bitcoin.conf file to were your wallet.dat file is located.. should work.. and make sure you run the bitcoin-cli.exe before you run bfgminer. and what ever pool you are relaying off use your pool login/password info so you can get info about the block the network is on.

So, I simply copy the below into a .cmd file, and run it?

d:\bfgminer\bfgminer -o 127.0.0.1:8332 -u x -p cat -o  btcguild.gigaforge.com:3333 -u y -p egg --coinbase-addr     1JafVRe23oLSku4FBwBE3rJAKc9Y8wZM5z --coinbase-sig "Yep Icon did it again!"

Where I change the bfgminer to the path on my computer, and change the pass and user names to my username?

I suggest using a large pool as the relay node

example of my solo.bat file

@ echo off
d:\bfgminer\bfgminer -o 127.0.0.1:8332 -u x -p cat -o  btcguild.gigaforge.com:3333 -u y -p egg --coinbase-addr     1JafVRe23oLSku4FBwBE3rJAKc9Y8wZM5z --coinbase-sig "Yep Icon did it again!"

O and add a coinbase-addr to tell the blockchain where to deposit the btc you mine Smiley

PS

Also if your solo mining with the newest bitcoinqt client the .0.9.1 you can still use the old bitcoin.conf file simple run the bitcoin-cli.exe file afterwards to get it to accept connections

example of the bitcoin.conf:

server=1
rpcuser=x
rpcpassword=y
rpcport=8332
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1

So, I am running the bitcoin core wallet, and it is synching.  Where do I input the  "bitcoin-qt.exe -rpcuser=username -rpcpassword=password -server -listen" at?

Which version are you using? Since 0.9.0, the RPC client has been removed from the bitcoin core wallet.

I am using Bitcoin Core v0.9.1.0-g026a939-beta (64-bit)

If your computer is on anyway, why not?  The little USB stick is doing all the work so it's not slowing your computer down while it's doing its thing.

If you get lucky, good for you! If not, nothing lost really...

Mine at Jonny's Pool
Solo mining can be fun, and is very much like playing the lottery.  I have 5 U2s that solo mine.  Is it likely they'll ever solve a block?  Nope.  I thought it was unlikely my S1 would solve a block, but last week it did just that... boy do I wish I was solo mining then.

It's unlikely I'll ever win the PowerBall either, yet I'll still buy a ticket or two.  Winning that buys me a whole lot of hashing power Smiley

When turning on some more verbose output in cgminer you seem to get a lot of these messages:

[2014-02-16 14:37:00] ANU 0: Share above target

Any understanding of what that is about? It seems that Internets are very brief/not enlightening on this particular topic.

Best share 54.3K today, while 13K yesterday (you got it right, I just mine for fun with the computer while it is turned on).

The target your miner is referring to is the artificially lower pool share target. Unless your solo mining your miner has no idea what the true target (difficulty) of Bitcoin is.

I would love to have about 20 S1 Ants.
18 would be on BTCGuild and 2 I would let solo mine.
That would be great.

How to do it:
1) Get Bitcoin wallet https://bitcoin.org/en/download
2) Run Bitcoin wallet app: "bitcoin-qt.exe -rpcuser=username -rpcpassword=password -server -listen" and wait for the BTC blockchain go through (this takes serious time)
3) Get cgminer from v3.12.3 or later (this version has official support for AntMiner U1) http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/
4) Run bitcoin mining software "cgminer.exe -o 127.0.0.1:8332 -u username -p password" and it will automatically start to mine with the U1 (ANU 0)

You might want to try solo mining just some random Alt SHA-256 coins too, I do that some with just one of my miners and every now and then I do get a block, if you watch the random difficulty on some coins you can really up your chances of getting lucky too.  I know what you mean when mining for fun solo, feels good to get your own block knowing your the only one that made it happen  Grin

I would absolutely encourage small miners to solo mine if they are doing it as a hobby. As someone said earlier, it is much better than playing the lottery.

Friend, there is no point. Yet, neither does it matter whether there is or not. If one would dig further, you could say something on the line of "because you can".

And the point in trying this? Without some serious Terrahashes, it's not worth it to even try to solo mine.

Its better then the lottery! You may never get a block, but if you do...
