completely agree OP. the protocol is what it is. if you don't like it, you can not relay tx's or you can not accept certain blocks, or you can go use another altcoin.
How am I supposed to get 51% of the hashing power? 
1. buy a couple Asics
2. publish firmware updates for Asics that increase hashing power
3. insert code that breaks those Asics into firmware updates
4. be the last one with working Asics -> 51%
5. Profit!

Or, just change the code of your bitcoin software to ignore blocks with "spam" in them.
Or, just stop complaining that people are using bitcoin. Don't like the largest blockchain? You know, the one that the most hashing power agreed on? Don't use that blockchain! Go find a blockchain that you believe in and call it "the real bitcoin".
