Just had a similar issue.
Follow the following steps:
- Open Bitcoin core
- Open settings
- "Open Configuration File"
- Add the line "server=1" without the quotes.
- Restart everything
- Try the transaction again.

In my case, I got a more detailed message then.

Did not worked.

BUT SOLVED ANOTHER WAY:
Installed newest version of Armory, then it worked somehow.

Dear Armory developers,

as Bitcoin Gold will be launched in few hours, I want to move all my Coins in Offline Wallet from one to another new one, so I will be able to claim my Bitcoin Gold with my Private Keys without risk.
So I started Armory, it is "Connected (494080 blocks)" and I just started a transaction like everytime.
I put it on USB-Stick, signed it on Offline-PC and tried to broadcast the signed transaction on the Online-PC.

But I get the following error:

"The transaction that you just attempted to broadcast has timed out.
The RPC interface of your node is disabled, therefor Armory cannot use it to gather more information about the timeout. It is recommended that you enable the RPC and try again."

What to do now? Never had this issue before, did anything like anytime.
