Here's a more complete guide to getting WiFi going on rPi (Sorry if there's any bad blood between here and there... but it's a good howto):
https://forums.butterflylabs.com/showwiki.php?title=Tutorials:Raspberry+Pi+-+Mining+with+MinePeon&viewfull=1&page=4&do=comments#post38317

And, all I did to install ntp was:
$ sudo pacman -S ntp

it asked to uninstall openntpd, installed ntp, and after a reboot, time sync was resovled.

HTH!

Glad to hear you're working.

I might also mention that after I got this working via Wicd, I had issues with the time not syncing properly.
There are two ways to fix:
Create config files for networking (I didn't want to do this), or install ntpd (will ask to remove openntpd).  After installing ntpd and rebooting, time sync worked again.  I'll try to find the link to the post I followed to fix this, and edit it into this post when I get a few minutes...

Edit: It was my wireless keyboard. Plugged in a wired one and the f10 worked.

I also seem to be having this problem but I when i hit f10 nothing happens so I can't actually save the entered password.

Any help? .02 bounty if you help me out and it works.

nope, no dice.
/etc/network/interfaces either doesnt exist or I'm not allowed to change it (despite sudo).
putting wheezy on my SD and starting over.
The reason it won't let you edit it, is because the /etc/network folder doesn't exist by default.
I didn't have to do anything in the guide anyway.
The Wicd tool is included with the MinePeon dist.  (At least it is on 0.2.2), and worked fine for me.

I didn't follow the guide mentioned previously.  Instead, once logged in, I ran
$ sudo wicd-curses
P for prefs, set the Wireless Interface to wlan0, then hit F10 to save.
R for refresh to scan for wifi networks.
select your netowrk, and hit the right arrow to configure settings.  Then F10 to save.
Again select your netowrk (now configured), and hit C to connect.

The status at the bottom of the screen showed it connect, authenticate, get an IP, and then show a status of "Connected".

Hope that's helpful.
If this has helped, feel free to send a tip my way:

I'll share half the bounty with you if you post a how-to.

http://www.savagehomeautomation.com/projects/raspberry-pi-installing-the-edimax-ew-7811un-usb-wifi-adapte.html

I followed this then the one thing that was missed was do sudo wicd-curses and then go to prefs and type in wlan0 in the wireless interface scan for network and then you can connect thats the one thing that guide did not add in there that I couldn't figure out for a while.
