I believe that majority of people in crypto knows how to handle their private keys and recovery seeds, but there are other things they do that makes them lose their assets, even a beginner will instantly understand a crypto wallet because when they download a crypto wallet, the tutorial and warnings will make them understand the dos and don't of crypto wallets but here are some advice that are important.

1. Know the company you keep, some people knows how to perfectly hide their recovery seed or private keys but they still lose their keys because they are in the midst of bad people, if you can't trust people around you, don't let them know that you are into crypto, they will start looking for something that's not lost.

2. Why not just invest on a good hard ware wallet? The best thing about this what is that the scammer or the betrayer around you will need that wallet to carry out any transaction, this is what makes hardware wallet the best way for storing crypto assets.

3. Be cautious, everyone knows how to keep their keys but the interaction of platforms online makes them lose their assets, they can't take their eye off free NFTs and coins, if you want to safely keep your crypto assets take your damn eyes off free cryptos.

If we are not giving scammers the route to penetrate in and attack us, it's very impossible for them to just locate us like that and scam us without having anything in common with them, we also have to learn to control ourselves and behave moderately, everything is not all about money, if it looks too good to be real then take a little step back and verify very that you're on the right track and think twice upon every steps and decisions.

Check identities Never give personal or financial information to anybody without first confirming their identity. Request formal credentials and check with the organisation by contacting them through their website or other contact details.

Since many have been scammed through impersonation, this may be in person, through profiles or cloned sites, we also have to developed more awareness on how to know any physhing or malicious means of attacks scammers uses, we must also keep our private keys safe and never allow any third party have access to them, most are scammed because they engage a poor security practice.

OP your scheme has to be specific as these which you just spoke about are just basics and most scammers currently have grown pass that stage, they can impersonate so well that you will need advanced confirmation skill to know they are actually scammers, there's more to scamming than you could possibly know at the moment, but for advanced protection against scammers you will need more than this to get protected.

Learn for Yourself Your strongest line of defence is knowledge. Keep up with typical fraud schemes and techniques. The more information you have, the easier it will be to spot and prevent such frauds.
Indeed, this is a basic thing that everyone must have in order to avoid scammers. Apart from that, we are also obliged to equip ourselves with appropriate knowledge regarding crypto, learn many things and insights both from the experiences of ourselves and other people. As well as deepening our knowledge so that we can distinguish whether it is a project or something that is true or a trap by scammers. With good knowledge complemented by vigilance and several things said by the OP, at least we have tried our best. Instead of just relying on feeling to guess whether it's a scammer or not. Because nowadays, scammers are getting smarter in tricking their potential victims, so sometimes they feel unaware that they are falling into the scammers' tricks.

In other words, be suspicious most of the time and just think that everyone around you is just waiting for the perfect timing to scam you. If you are less cautious, you will really be attack by them, leaving yourself falling in their own trap and giving them the chances to take advantage on your funds. And while knowledge is very much important, the reason why doing initial research on everything you plan to do is a must. It's actually doing yourself a favor to have an edge over those scammers, because if not the vice versa will happen, you will be the one that will be taken advantage by them.

Know that scammers are already part on this high innovative world. And just as we thought that we want to gain the best of everything out from all our endeavors, scammers themselves have also their aim to gain the best advantage out from everything and the only way they can do that is to think and act smarter than us so they can always take the lead before us.

By having common sense i think. Scammers can use different ways to provoke a person to fall for a scam but all of their scams have evolved around raising the greed of their victims. So if a general person uses their common sense, does not be greedy, and always checks the authenticity of the offer or service they want to use, 90% of scam cases will never happen.

The scammers are surrounding us and looking for those who they can easily trap  by providing fake phishing site, speculation, and wrong information and the victims of these scammers are mostly the beggainers. They did not know about the scammers and they disclosed all their personal and financial information to them sometimes their greedy nature got over them and they got trapped in phishing sites. The best advice to newbies is to safe from scammers and not make friends online as they are not your willwisher. Do your own research before going to anything and make your own decision. The halving event is coming near and they will be active or may be they started working, So be safe from them and make a strict rules of not involve in any activity that does not have good feedbacks.

Knowledge always comes to a person when he passes from that line of work that he has already done. Most users say that they are scammed through social media. In some telegram groups, I have seen that some scammers changed their username to Admin of any crypto Group and he message to users who are facing some issues in apps, in swaps, or in connecting Wallet, etc. Then the scammers message them through different IDs on telegram and they get their data sometimes if some users are newbies they give their wallets phrase keys and other security measurements, which is completely wrong. Newbie or I mean everyone should be aware of it. We should never share our wallet phrase or key even someone's messages on telegram or any other source of Social Media.

Nowadays we have seen more scammers coming day by day and they invent new ways of scamming people to get their money and their security keys etc. We should make ourselves very careful about all these behaviors.

Scammers will always be a terror for everyone, especially people who are too friendly with other people, there are many scammers who disguise themselves as good people in this world, I have even been bothered by scammers several times, so the best defense to avoid scammers is to not letting them (scammers) enter our lives easily. always be careful with whatever it is, don't fall into the trap of scammers who look friendly and welcoming, check their identity carefully and verify it first.

Another one is never to be too fast when a stranger is trying to convince you to do something you don't have idea of, ask people questions to be sure if you are about to do the right thing. So many people have fall into the trap of scammmers by being too fast because of what they think they can gain by taking things on a slow one will be able to reason.

Doing more research can also help not to fall into the hands of scammmers,  scammers easily get people who are blank in knowledge,  but if one have ideas in so many things it is hard to get into trap of scammmers.

Or simply follow the old adage of "Don't trust anyone". It doesn't mean that have difficulty with someone, but in the world that we live in crypto, you have to think that anyone is here to scam you, so it's better to be safe than sorry. Not sure if he have been scam before, because the feeling is not pleasant. And just stay up to date, your anti-virus, anti-phishing toolbar and check every website that you visit. And yes, be very vigilant of your online credentials as well and not just to give it out easily as scammers can used your personal data without you knowing it.
Exactly. Trust no one but only yourself. That’s the best strategy so that no one will take advantage of you, because they don’t hold anything that might be against to you. And always be knowledgeable on the current styles of scamming. We know we are smart that’s why we’re here in crypto, but scammers could sometimes be smarter than us, and we won’t let it happen of course. Also, never disclosed anything that is important to you. You might find some people can be trustworthy, but we really don’t know their real identity once they remove their mask.

Aside from the given list by @OP we must also keep our greed in check.  Although we have the knowledge, the vigilance and all the security needed to detect scammers, if we failed to control our greed and let it take over instead of rationality, we can still fall for the scammers trick.  It is the greed that makes us dull and become a victim of scams because greed triggers the urgency in our decision making and make us careless or don't care about the possible result because greed make our mind to think about the future profit disregarding precautionary measures and possible scams.

OP there is no wrong in your post but seems obvious this is coming from a newbie who should be reading and learning more about the platform and Bitcoin. Well I have no doubt about your identity for you to have come up with these measures and I will add just a little here; do not click links you have no knowledge about both on email, social media. Avoid airdrops and unnecessary free giveaways. Do not authorise any connections online with your wallet. Anybody that PM's you claiming to be an agent block them as they are scammers. Do not spend your coin to anybody for exchange or transaction without a reputable escrow here. I believe these few tips could help you through your journey here.
The ops hard a nice title for the thread that attracted alot pf attention to this thread but somewhere along the line, ops missed out on highlighting all the possible technical and emotional strategies to avoiding scam attempts and that is why he have limited hos explanation to only this basic advice instead of handing out a tool that could help.

Anyways just to add my own quota to this discussion, the most effective thing to do is to first of all have the basic knowledge on most scam schemes and also not being greedy to jump on any offer will also save you a whole lot along the line.
Truly his ideas were someworth limited but he gave clues which were more of good importance to anyone who wants to stay safe from scammers.  Having the basic knowledge is very vital and good tips at hand to note scams very quickly which I did highlight from my initial reply which of followed can guide newbies through to avoid falling for scams and scammers. Every one needs to be vigilant and alert always to note scams and avoid them so they do not have their details used against them or their funds and assets stolen.

This last statement is the message that Binance try's to pass across on this anti-phishing image notice. You should always verify an email from the organization. Because it carries the header or semblance doesn't make it legit. It appies not just to P2P and cryptocurrency but to everything you do on the internet

Having a lot of knowledge is important. It is quite helpful. There is no dulling if not someone scams you before you even realize it, thus everyone involved in cryptocurrency needs to be sharp. Just be very careful, there are a lot of individuals out there who are more intelligent than we are, but we should keep looking for more information. It will greatly benefit us. Again, we should be very careful with people we meet online because, if you check it now, all social networks are full of scammers; some are very hard to identify, whether they are real or bad. All I can say is that we should be very careful with whom we meet online and with the people around us; not all are our friends. Anything that involves our personal or financial information, we need to guide it as if we are protecting our lives. We don't need to fall on any trap.

Currently, I am in the process of finding scams in the ANN section of the forum and I have noticed something when newbies get scammed out by fake websites and projects.

When people discover a new project, they quickly download the miner and start mining the tokens/coins of the designated project without even checking if the link/s they have downloaded are safe. Not to mention, lots of newbies often become too hasty with their decisions as they trust almost every message they receive from random strangers.

To sum it all up, prevention is better than cure. Be doubtful for your security. People would ever approach you and tell that they have the secret formula to success but they have their respective hidden agendas ready for carefree newbies.

Remember, nothing is free- everything has a price. Same for scammers- if they claim to have something for free, then be doubtful and backoff.

Check identities
Being aware of the potential scam will protect you from being a victim. And those that usually becomes a victim are those that don't have knowledge on what are those type of scams are. They're easily becoming the victim by these scammers because they know that they lack knowledge on how the typical scam exists.

Never give personal or financial information to anybody without first confirming their identity. Request formal credentials and check with the organisation by contacting them through their website or other contact details.
This is how the scam starts, when these scammers get your identity somewhere else or they're able to buy that from marketplaces where it's being sold, they'll contact you immediately and if you're not expecting a call or an email from random person then that's the obvious reasons to avoid and ignore those type of contacts that you receive. Because most of the victims are entertaining these random emails, messages and calls that they receive.

Here are some ways I usually do it:

1. Don't trust anyone
Many scammers disguise themselves as good people, who want to help us do or complete, or get something. Sometimes, they even offer very high and attractive investments. but in reality they are scammers. There is no one who is so good to us, especially giving us a lot of money, especially since he doesn't know us. That's usually how scammers work. Be careful, don't easily trust anyone here, especially someone you don't know.

2. Don't believe in something that is too good to be true
Especially things that are quite impossible or things that are too easy to get money from. Or someone who delivers extraordinary results.

3. Ignore all contacts, messages, inboxes, emails and other shares that are suspicious and we don't know the sender. Don't click on the links or follow what they tell you. because it could actually be dangerous.

4. be realistic and wise. Don't be attracted by instant things that can actually lead you astray, because only a small percentage of you can actually get them. However, in reality, there are many scammers who attract us with instant things that are beyond reason.

The strange thing I noticed about that scammer is that he know how much money I had in my account and he send an amount that I had in my account.
For a scammer to know how much money you have in your account already, that's to say he got the details of your account from the customer service of your bank. Because I don't see a way a scammer can dictate or know the amount of money in a stranger's account.

If not for your past idea of how scammers operate by sending fake alerts to people, I believe you would have fallen to the scammer method of defrauding people through claiming of sending money to their bank account.

In addition, the best way to follow scammers is never to trust anyone who projects an offer that has a high return on profits. Staying away from such an offer will do a lot of good.

I don't think that a bank's customer support would provide such data to scammers but anything can happen these days. What came into my mind is that the scammer might be someone who works at that bank and has data of the customers. The banks hire anyone these days and they don't really care much about the customers. Ah, once again we got another reason to love Bitcoin.

You're right, I have been dealing with such scammers for a long time and that's why I know their tactics but those who don't have proper knowledge and awareness about such scams can fall into the trap of those scammers. The scammers mostly targeted educationally weak people because they such people are easy targets for them.

Well, I agree with you the ones who offer you high returns are mostly scammers. In fact these days scammers are so smart that it would be really difficult to know who's a scammer and who isn't one. But, if we have knowledge and awareness then they won't be able to get success in their negative intentions.

The scammers will always try their best to find ways to scam us and I believe education and awareness about those scammers is the best defensive weapon that we can use to protect ourselves from their negative intentions. A few days ago I received a message on my number where a scammer send me a bank transaction message with an amount 5000 in my local currency. After a few minutes I received a call from an unknown number and it was no one else but the scammer. He said that he has sent the money unintentionally on my account and asked me to resend the money on his account.

He said that he was trying to send the money to his family members in order to support them but it was mistakenly sent to my account. But fortunately I was aware about such scammers and I logged into my bank account to see that if I had received any amount on my account but I didn't received anything and I told him that I didn't received any amount from you and also said to him that I know scammers like you who use such tactics to scam others. The guy cut the call and turned off his number. Those scammers are everywhere and if we aren't aware about them then they can cause huge harm to us. You will often hear and encounter this advice repeatedly: "Beware of offers that seem 'too good to be true.'" Take a moment to carefully consider the logical processes involved in how the funds are supposed to be utilized. If the plan or proposal doesn't appear to make sense, it's wise to step away. Additionally, conduct some background checks. Search the internet to see if there have been any reports of scams related to the offer being presented to you.

there are many types of fraud in this world and the most common ones are love scamming, identity scamming, investment scamming and crypto scamming so we all have to be diligent in reading and finding out in detail about whatever comes to us and never be easily tempted by whatever they offer, verify it first and take more time to research before truly believing it and always leave 1% of doubt even on things that look convincing.  Fraudsters don't choose their victims, if you are weak and trapped then it's your fault.

You made some good points, I will also add that greed is the main reason why people fall victim to scams. Scammers are not excessively brilliant, they repeat the same old tricks which is to give their target the illusion of making profit off the scammer. The greatest lie scammers invented was to make their victims believe that they were in control and that the other party was at their mercy. Just like @SamReomo told us, the scammer contacted him with a narrative that puts him at the mercy of SamReomo, some scammers would go ahead to ask you to send half of the supposed money and keep the rest to yourself. They understand that greed is every person’s blind spot and people throw away all logic and reasoning when they become greedy.
Scammers have alot of ways to keep the victims on they toels at all times, and this is why we have to build up our defence to resist all the tendencies of greed and not allow it to take control of our central thinking faculty,  and along the line if you can protect yourself around the gullible tendency and put your brain to work things out you discover their scam on time.
I still do believe that scammers are the dumbest people, and if only you put your senses to work, you will spot them easily.

I want to underscore the importance of being part and actively involved in the cryptocurrency community. This in itself would help you stay up-to-date with the latest scam projects or new techniques and strategies used by hackers. In one of the crypto WhatsApp group which I am involved in , we were told that one of the crypto websites had been hacked and these hackers were sending emails to users of that platform. We were warned not to open or interact with my email from that website. If I had not been a part of this community, maybe I would have fallen a victim but  being a part of the group made me learn of the hack earlier and did my best to adhere to the instructions. You get latest and up to date information about hacks, scams by being a member of this type of organization.

Sometimes, if we can pay much attention to some things that are happening around us, we can be able to detect a simple fraud that doesn't even require any technicality in order for them to be able to figure them out.

What we just need is to be able to avoid being too greedy and falling for some kind of cheap scam; avoid people who promise to give us free money, as there is no free money anywhere on the internet; avoid clicking on any link from where we are not expecting them; and we should always take warnings from our security providers, either on our PC or on our mobile, and also from security experts.

And when the security is about crypto, we should always avoid all these airdrop sites that will want us to connect our wallet to their site in order for us to be able to withdraw what they promise us as a reward, which might make us land ourselves into losing the little that we manage to have.

Scammer often targets a person's greed so we better check the offers if it is too good to be true.  We should control our greed and don't let greed invade our minds and rationality.  Aside from that, If the person is overpromising then it is more likely a scam.

The typical strategy of a scammer is insane interest rate or insane profit and the need to act quickly due to their limited time offers that put their victim in the state of urgency thus, disabling the capability of the victim to act rationally. This means, we need to be calm and vigilant at all time.

In protecting yourself against scam, there are lots of things you have to do in addition to the ones you mentioned, you have to set your gadgets on a two factor authentication or verification before anybody or including yourself can log in into important apps on your gadgets.  You shouldn't as well click on  links you cannot authenticate the sender, or what what the website is all about, this are little things you have to do not to fall a victim.

Protecting your wallet is very essential because little errors can lead to loss of funds. Firstly we should avoid centralized wallets or platforms because this can easily lead to loss of funds. Use open-sourced decentralized wallets and your seed phrase and password are sensitive,  it should be handled secretly and carefully. We should also learn not to click on unusual links, every piece of information should be verified. Let's always watch out for phishing scams through social media and emails. It is also important to avoid greed because scammers promise tempting rewards that are difficult to refuse. Don't invest in a project that promises huge profit, this is a sign of a scam project.

The strange thing I noticed about that scammer is that he know how much money I had in my account and he send an amount that I had in my account.

And what about the scamming attempts that come totally out of the syllabus?  Roll Eyes Scammers are getting smart, so it's not really that easy to dodge them. You will need to come up with more tips and tricks than generic suggestions and advices.

Yeah, another too obvious advice from newbie once again on how to secure yourself from scammers.
I think it would have been a better topic if the topic of the discusion was more on what the Original poster is saying and not misdirecting. Maybe the topic should have been to remind us and new people in the forum of tips that do not require technical knowledge on how to avoid being scammed.

Vigilance, awareness...
These are examples of non technical tips so you do not get scammed.

Learn for Yourself Your strongest line of defence is knowledge.
Learning is a non technical approach to getting technical knowledge. People who own bitcoins should not allow the fear of learning make them not try to learn technical ways and security measures against scammers.

Another one is learning to control your greed, because greed can make you easily be victims of scams.

Vigilance, awareness, and sound security procedures are all necessary for scammer protection.
Here are some of the finest defences against con artists
Learn for Yourself Your strongest line of defence is knowledge. Keep up with typical fraud schemes and techniques. The more information you have, the easier it will be to spot and prevent such frauds.
Check identities Never give personal or financial information to anybody without first confirming their identity. Request formal credentials and check with the organisation by contacting them through their website or other contact details.

Yeah, another too obvious advice from newbie once again on how to secure yourself from scammers.

If the intention of the thread is just to earn merit, It’s much better if you will post like a newbie such as being curious on something here in the forum rather than acting as pro here giving some advice.

No offense, all the information you provided is 100% true. The only problem was is you are just stating the obvious here which is already discussed many times in multiple occasions.

To sum it all up, a key strategy for safeguarding oneself from scams involves acquiring sound knowledge and adopting effective preventive measures. Often, alot of people become victims not due to a lack of awareness but rather because of their choice to disregard potential threats, believing that they are immune to fraud or phishing attempts. The escalating prevalence of cybercrime in our society today, brings about the urgency of this concern for anyone who intends to preserving the safety and security of their financial assets.
