I had read this news about a week ago,In my first opinion it was a human error and think the sender customize the transaction fee and add to much 0. But now for a second time with that big amount this really need to investigate.

It's a really big amount but I don't think anyone will back it Even if we find out about the hacked site by the investigation it is not possible to get it back,so we have to check the wallet properly before making a transaction on any site.

I really didn't believe it till I saw the etherscan transaction. Man, what's up with this since it happened not once, but twice right?
There were explanations that came out and it says that it's a blackmail.

This is so weird happening consecutively within weeks. Aside been human error, I feel it must have been done by novice who is just trying to learn how to send out ETH thereby increasing the fee rather than amount to be sent.

Maybe it's best not to put all your ETH in one wallet (basket). Roll Eyes How about spreading your crypto in multiple cold wallets instead, to avoid getting charged such an enormous fee.

I also think that this isn't a mistake the wallet have so many transaction and as you use a wallet you would also know how to fix those fee so I doubt that this is a mistake at all.
But we couldn't really know the reason why they did it or why he/she did it.

Compare rates on different exchanges & swap.
We can say it was just a lucky day for the mining pool 'ethermine', that reward divided between all the miners means a big a mount for all of them even if they had a low hash power. This makes me think about how good could it be to have a small mining hash power on each mining pool, this way we could get some of these jackpot fees.

I wouldn't touch the money if I was  part of the miners... It's worth alot for such risk. Will keep it just incase the owners demand for it. This kind of issue is one of the reasons i think miners need to have unique form of identification (while still being anonymous) with reputation or trust system. That could make retrieving such money much easier.
Hope it's not an attack, or software/security issue. Or just a joke?

CLEAN non GPL infringing code made in Rust lang
So eth network got clogged again and the wallets happily rose the fees? Why i'm not even surprised. Maybe there is a new super crypto kitties game or something, maybe someone is running a turing test able program in their blockchain, because why not?

Indeed lucky miners that got those, hope they do the smart move and exchange it for bitcoin...

Amazing people still make such mistakes with those large amounts...

I've read this and there's a good explanation from DarkDays regards to this transaction.

Doesn't look like this was an accident.

Looking through his transaction history he's used 60 gwei for every transaction, except this one.... That indicates the wallet was previously controlled by a smart contract or some automated service, but then this guy took over and manually cranked to gas price up to 500 million.

What's more likely is that he is working in cahoots with the mining pool to forcibly move money from one place to another, potentially converting illegitimate gains into legal proceeds (mining revenue). He'd then split the difference with the pool owner and get away with essentially laundering money.

This isn't the first time Sparkpool has received suspiciously high fee transactions before. And they often seem to agree to split it back with the sender.... Why would they do that when it's rightfully theirs to keep?

The pool is also looking into it.
