With just the quote, I would take the interpretation of a need for someone. Such that, the person the quote is referencing makes the writer happy.
With the image in the background taken into account, I would replace the "person" with more of a worldly figure. As in; the world makes you happy.

I think it means someone is missing someone who died at sea and they're thinking of him/her and thinking about all the happiness that person brought them.
