Baby whales get eaten by other killer whales.

Big whale get eaten only when they are dead and lie on the bottom of the ocean.

I guess it is manipulation to get cheap coins, but no one knows if he succeeded

The manipulator put 22K sell wall at 300.00 and 200+ buy wall at 299.99, hope to scare the speculators to panic sell into his 299.99 buy wall. But he also has a risk: That sell wall might be eaten faster than the buy wall, then he will lose coins. So he must actively watch the development on both sides and eat the sell wall quickly using his other accounts, so that total number of his coins won't decrease

Why can't bitcoin just go to 1 trillion dollars already. Gosh

Because all you fools are willing to let your coins go for much cheaper! & the powers at hand that have even more bitcoin than you are already making profit even cashing out at 300/coin... Don't even get me started on miners now too!!!

And VC's just funded blockchain.info with 30 million dollars today. Hardly the actions of a dying industry.

I am still of the opinion that this is a fantastic bit of price and sentiment manipulation before the next bubble. This time it will be global.

Just remember VC's are investing in the business, not in bitcoin... Im sure once it gets to the price they like then they'll all hop on board! What that price is, nobody knows  Huh

I just hope the run up happens quickly, before the first half of 2015.
Otherwise, a lot of people will become disillusioned with bitcoins.

Has anyone considered the possibility that someone just bought their own coins on Stamp? I mean, yeah you'd have to spend quite some amount of fees, but the effect on the market could be in a way to achieve something bigger.
Was thinking along that line as well. Volume low for ages, and then a huge sell wall gets eaten up so quickly? But it stop right after eating through it?
Might be a "cheap" attempt to get people to start a rally.
Sure would quite a lot in fees, unless it were people from Bitstamp themselves. But may have been considered worth the risk anyway to trigger a rally.

@barrysilbert: Surprised how few are connecting the recent selling pressure to the Oct 15 tax extension deadline. Taxes due from '09-'13 mining/usage/sales

Interesting. So this is only US-wise in that case? I don't know if this really is a factor. But it could be, of course. It wouldn't apply to the Chinese mining farms, liquidating their profits, though! I wonder if we ever see a definitive answer to these questions!

Right because if Mr or Ms Whale whipped up a nice thread on here to explain their motivation, that wouldn't cause a backlash of hatemongering on this forum.  Grin

I really don't know what to believe. I think it could be some big mining company cutting their losses and selling the coins now, when the upswing from the breakdown to the $270s occurred, effectively letting everyone running into their asks.

I followed 38,094 btc upstream, which were moved yesterday evening

Might be, or might not be related ...:

38,094 btc https://blockchain.info/de/address/1JX5hS3HyVT3VwnEgvoPLVu6ujPFH7BvrY
<-- 40,304 btc https://blockchain.info/de/address/159SCycgn8weAy2XGUEhD6V1RTFni7E3iq
<-- -- 35,327 btc https://blockchain.info/de/address/19Gt9VKmmyMpMHEv6dkf8ddwmwddoSoJ8w

And that last address 19Gt9VKmmyMpMHEv6dkf8ddwmwddoSoJ8w has been accumulating 900-2000 btc portions between August and October 2012.

Anyone can interprete those quite regular, and similiarly sized transactions (from always 4-6 source addresses) ?

BTW, back then, the price was ~25 times lower than his 300$

Two and a half hours ago I think there were like 12.5 k left to sell. All 12.5 k were sold in those two and a half hours?

[Edit]

I just looked at a chart and there is a massive 12.5 k candle about two hours ago! So another whale brought them off the whale selling?

no - lots of buy orders in a very quick time period - there were some large 2000 coin trades , but also a lot of 0.1 - 10 sizes

Re the poll we need a NONE OF THE ABOVE option.

Wouldn't be surprised if whale bought his own coins (or most of them) in attempt to spark a buying frenzy.

It's probably loads of bitcoin holders all shitting themselves about the crash, and trying to sell as fast as possible for whatever they can get.

Yes, they all mentally align in a perfectly orchestrated 30k btc wall. Smoke crack much?

It is someone very close to the exchange owners, that is for sure; noone gives unknowns in slovenia 10mil without being able to hold their balls gently. Motive is also pretty obvious - make a very large investment into BTC. What I am surprised most about is - who the hell is actually selling at $280? Smiley It is possible that these are imaginary bitcoins you are buying there; withdraw all you can, that should scare the crap out of the manipulator.

this.  we should audit Stamp.

and this says it all.  thx inca!:

WTF this is counter intuitive to me completely. I would think that the number of addresses that holds a large percentage of Bitcoin would go down not up over time as old holders bail out into fiat......

This can't be good can it?

i'd like to believe the continued increased in number of exchanges wallets going into top 500 (as the number of exchanges increases) for the increase in the graph
also exchanges splitting their funds across multiple wallets

This can't be good can it?

No it isn't. In 2011 the top 100 had 2Mio. Bitcoins. 40% of all. Today they have 2.5Mio., so 18%. And big addresses are often cold storage of big exchanges. The coins could be owned by a lot of people. On the other hand: If I had 1Mio. eggs I would not store them in one basket.

I guess I'm not rich enough because I would feel pretty fucking uncomfortable holding 30k bitcoins worth of Bitstamp IOUs.

Dont worry, they will pay you back in ripple.

An evil manipulator trying to get cheap coins
if that is true why did he pulled back order ?

Because it did its job which got people to drive the price down lower and keep it low. You do that and let the people panic, get orders to start filling under it,and then that buys you time to set up whatever you need ( like the bot ) and once everything is set, you pull back your wall without much risk.

I tried to figure out what happened, and here is my short conspiracy theory:
Nemesis dumped some 5k BTC, hoping to trigger a death spiral, he said he wants to kill the hardware (ASIC?) vendors.
The market was already in an oversold condition, so it didn't drop much further. But another (large?) whale panicked
and flashed that 30k BTC wall. Anyway, Nemesis said he'll be back with more ammo.

This can't be good can it?

shouldn't be holding anyway and be using it as it's intended. a currency.
or is it hodling as the 13 yr old say?

real currencies over the ages have a right to be hodl'd.  it's part of the bargain; don't punish savers.

There's not much point manipulating one exchange if you can't simultaneously manipulate all the other big exchanges. People would just buy cheap off your one manipulated exchange and dump at high prices on the other exchanges.

If I was not mistaken I saw that the people who run stamp are Ripple supporters, so them manipulating t0 cause a crash in BTC I would not put out of question.

Exchange operator or insider.

Noone trusts anyone with 30k coins in this environment.

I voted  for :

Code:
A panicked whale that knows more than you

I think some early adopters woke up and now try "to manipulate" the price.

Has to be manipulation, whoever has 30k to sell knows that the number of people with that much fiat on Bitstamp is probably zero.

If they really wanted to sell they would do it out of an exchange. Unless they are an unconnected foolish 2011 HODLer.

There are too many people with tens of thousands of coins, too much ability to manipulate this market, and not enough day to day volume.....
