What would happen to the Chinese people if their government was destroyed?  The government that brought them to where they are as .a country today? What would it be replaced with?

History showed one Chinese govt overthrown by violence, a worse one would be established.
The Chinese Commies were shouting freedom and democracy as hell back in 1940s. Many commies died fighting for freedom and democracy until their last breath literally.
And one couldn't say what those Commies claimed were all fake. The mainland Chinese govt controlled by nationalists back in 1940s was indeed corrupted and brutal. There was neither freedom nor democracy under such a dark regime. And that regime on mainland China was crashed by a civil war.
Once the revolution succeed, the winner CCP who claim the power as a prize would not share it to people. Thus the revolution failed at the same time.

History repeated in Iran in 1979 after the Shahanshah's regime was overthrown.

The first act of the new leadership brought in by these types of revolutions is always to murder the revolutionaries responsible for bringing it forth. I am looking at you Coins4Commies. You and your kind will be the first to be thrown into the mass graves if you succeed in what you advocate for.

I never drew an equivalence for HOW bad they are.  You missed the difference between the statements "both are bad" and "both are equally bad".  I acknowledged that right now today china is doing things that are worse than what the present day american government is doing.

You also keep using that same bad (analogy?).  Of course I'm not qualified to teach people how to use a machine I've never seen.

I have not made excuses for any of these awful things.  You are the only one in this thread making excuses for terrible things.  Shame on you.

You can say anything you want about China but don't try to force people into doing things that will hurt Chinese people as well as their own pocket.  Lebron can do a lot more with his money here in the US to help oppressed  people than he could by getting himself censored in China and losing tons of money.   Lebron talking shit about china would certainly reduce morale in China. If you cared about chinese people, you'd understand that.

Quantification is not a requirement. You literally made an equivalence by the dictionary definition. Oh look, more "NO U!!!1" arguments... that's a new one. Again, you are ignoring the fact that China is meddling in the domestic affairs of the USA, but all you can do is cry about how its not fair we criticize them. You are brain dead. I do care about the Chinese people, and I am willing to bet I have had far more contact with Chinese than you have. I care enough about them to advocate for the end of the CCP while you just make excuses for it.
Quantification is not a requirement for an equivalence but it would be required to make the one I drew be a FALSE equivalence.

What domestic affairs are you talking about?  I don't even subscribe to a "we have to meddle with them because they meddled with us pov".  I don't think we should be messing with Syria, Iran, Russia, North Korea, or any of these countries.  I'm a non-interventionist.

What would happen to the Chinese people if their government was destroyed?  The government that brought them to where they are as .a country today? What would it be replaced with?

Heres an equivalency for you...you like to talk about how with all its faults, capitalism has raised so many people out of poverty, well , with all its faults, no government has raised people out of poverty at the rate of China's in the past 40 years.

Its a dumb bet that isn't contributing to the discussion but unless you've live in China, I'd doubt it.  Most of the grad students in chemistry in America are Chinese so I spent 8 years of my life around mostly Chinese.  I also taught classes where half of the students were Chinese.  The bet is useless though because there are so many different types of Chinese people with different backgrounds and just like anywhere else, a lot of the wealthy, privileged people don't care about the poor and a lot of the poor don't have the opportunity to interact with the rest of the world.

You aren't thinking about all the people who won't be able to see anymore nba or have nike because those companies spoke out against china.  You want china to be like north korea.

Chinese prisoners broke Chinese laws as well.  You seem to think the US is the only government that locks people up based on broken laws.  I don't remember voting for the authors of the constitution.  Neither do the native Americans or puerto ricans or Hawaiians and all the other territories with little representation or choice to be governed by it.   If Chinese want to make reforms, they can work really hard in school, join the party, work their way up and reform it from within.  See how your logic against the american poor sounds?

Equivalence implies equal which I never did. Saying a group of things are all bad is not saying they are all equally bad.  These are different degrees of the same thing.  Beer and vodka are both alcoholic beverages but that doesn't mean I think they are equivalent.  I'm also not going to tell an alcoholic to quit drinking while I'm blowing through 6packs.

I acknowledged that China does some things that are worse than what the US is doing at this point in time but that Americans should focus on what they have control over as a priority over what is going on in other countries.  I think its much more effective to set an example of how others should be instead of trying to dictate what others should do.

You are excusing the one you're responsible for while crying out against the one someone else is doing.  That is worse than drawing an equivalence.

"equivalence noun
Definition of equivalence

1a : the state or property of being equivalent
b : the relation holding between two statements if they are either both true or both false so that to affirm one and to deny the other would result in a contradiction"

Creating a false equivalence is EXACTLY what you are doing. You jerk yourself off talking about how you have me "in your class" but I have to teach you the English language. Like I said you aren't qualified to teach people how to use a fryer at McDonalds.

China is not leaving the US to its own business. China intends to control The USA totally or to destroy it. What is really important though is we don't say anything bad about the genocidal dictatorship right? You spend so much fucking time moralizing, yet when an undeniably anti-human situation presents itself you have all the excuses in the world for it. At this point I am forced to assume you are either totally insane, totally full of shit, or totally retarded.

I'm not drawing an equivalence between what happens in the US, China, or North Korea.  Of course you can say one is not as bad as the other or one is much worse but I'm simply pointing out that they are all doing bad things.

I'm not even interested in comparing and splitting hairs over which one is worse because I only live in one country and should focus on what my country is doing. You think Chinese prisoners didn't break laws? Even Otto Warmbier broke a law.   You clearly understand that laws can be unjust but you only look outward.  No one silenced him, they just made the business decision that someone speaking out against the government killing innocent people was not good for business.

No one's stopping NBA from commenting on China but they have to accept the consequences of what they say.  Colin Kaepernick was banished from the NFL for having an opinion against the Police killing innocent people.

That is EXACTLY what you are doing, drawing a false equivalence between the US and China.

"Of course you can say one is not as bad as the other or one is much worse but I'm simply pointing out that they are all doing bad things.

That's called an equivalence you fucking jamoke.

Do you think illegal aliens broke laws illegally entering the country? Oh that's different! That is a concentration camp!

You're projecting your line of thinking onto me.  You might believe in enforcing your idea about how government should work onto other countries but I don't.   I don't like China's form of government but don't want to change it because I am not Chinese and it is not my place to tell other people how they should run their country.  So although I'm not defending the actions of the Chinese, I am defending their sovereignty and right to run their own country without American intervention.

You can say that the US doesn't have gulags and concentration camps but China also denies all of the things you say about them.   No one would admit to running concentration camps.  China calls them "Vocational education and training centers".

Everyone has their own excuse for human rights violations and every authoritarian government goes as far as necessary to protect the existence. .   Maybe you should learn a bit about your own country before focusing so much on a country on the other side of the world.

Flying Hellfish is a Commie

Holy lord.

I'm just going to explain this in very basic terms.

China is imprisoning people in their country due to the fact that they don't support the Chinese government. That's a problem. That's not something we do in this country.

In the United States people are put in jail for breaking the law, law that is created by politicians and public officials that are elected by the people.

China literally imprisons and kills people in their own country for not agreeing with their government.  This doesn't happen in America. Look at all the protests we let happen in this country because we were built off of the rights to protest, right to free speech, etc.

There's no way in gods name you can compare the incarceration in the US to incarcerating opponents of the government in China.

While yes, the NBA doesn't have the ability to directly change China -- they're allowed to comment on what goes on in China just like anyone else in the US can (and will continue to) and they don't have to be accept being silenced by China.

We're LIGHT YEARS UPON LIGHT YEARS ahead of China when it comes to human rights. I think Russia is light years away from china when it comes to human rights.

Like come on man what the hell?
I'm not drawing an equivalence between what happens in the US, China, or North Korea.  Of course you can say one is not as bad as the other or one is much worse but I'm simply pointing out that they are all doing bad things.

No one's stopping NBA from commenting on China but they have to accept the consequences of what they say.  Colin Kaepernick was banished from the NFL for having an opinion against the Police killing innocent people.

When you're saying that the US cant comment on China until they don't incaracerate people for nonviolent crimes you're practically saying that that the two are the same and should both be fixed at the same rate.

That's not fair in the least. One is oppressing and killing their own citizens (China)

And here we go again, you're going down this path again. When people in America break laws -- these laws are put into place by people that they elected, and they can be repealed by the people by electing new people or signaling support for a different path. This is a democratic system, so when and if you do break the law at least you know the politicians that you've elected put it into place and you have the ability to try to change the laws.

In China this isn't the case. The CCP decides on what is going to be law and what isn't going to be law. That's it. No citizen input, no care in the world about what the citizenry say. The Chinese criminal guilty conviction rate is in the realm of 99 percent because of the fact that there is no way to argue against what the CCP thinks. Its their way or no way.

By the way-- Colin Kapernick wasn't BANISHED from the NFL. NFL owners had decided that he was too much of a liability to have on a team and he wasn't hired by another after kneeling. That was it.

The NBA doesn't have power to create change in China.  They will simply be banned from China and any influence they did have will be lost.  Thats bad for everyone.  I have massive problems with concentration camps and all the shady stuff that goes on in China which is why I'd like to start by closing our concentration camps, dark prisons, and reforming our police.  Once we clean up our own yard, then I might consider telling other countries how to run their shit.
Except that the NBA is affirmatively promoting Chinese propaganda. They also often take a stance on domestic politics, and the stance is the exact opposite of what the NBA is actively protecting in China.

There are no concentration camps in the US. Comparing what happens in the US to what happens in China is, in effect, protecting the status quo in China, including the imprisonment of political dissenters. In the US, you can criticize the government all you want without consequences from the government, while in China, if you criticize the government, you will be imprisoned (if not murdered), and those associated with you will be unable to get a job or an apartment due to the Chinese credit scoring system.

Similarly, there is no systemic problems with the police force in the US. Sure, there are some bad apples, but that is true in any population numbering in the hundreds of millions. The overwhelming majority (>99.99%) of police encounters are entirely lawful on the part of the police officer, and there are no human rights being violated. On the other hand, in China, at the direction of the Chinese government, the police will arrest you if you say the wrong thing, or if you criticize the Chinese government.

Aren't these people insane. Right when they're asked a question about AN ACTUAL COMMUNIST COUNTRY THAT KILLS THEIR OWN PEOPLE he resorts to "fuck drumpf"
All these people care about is their own personal profit, and their own personal political power.

As mentioned above, I am strongly against advertiser boycotts, but this is one example as to when it may be appropriate to boycott those supporting NBA players and teams who are pushing Chinese propaganda.

I am not at all defending them.  I'm just saying that as americans, its none of our business.  I'm defending Lebron and the NBA for not taking basketball away from the Chinese people just because their government is bad.   If we have a problem with mass incarceration, we should start right here in the country that has the highest incarceration rate by far.  Americans criticizing China for prisons is hypocritical.  Lead by example.

You are literally defending the Chinese. You go on and on about how your Communism is not centralized state run totalitarian communism, yet here you are making excuses for it. You are full of shit. Lebron and the NBA aren't taking basketball away from China, CHINA is taking basketball away from China. Oh look, more "NO U!" type arguments. The US prison system is not even comparable to China's. You want to know a big reason why? There they usually just kill their prisoners and sell their organs. That sure does cut down on the incarceration rates now doesn't it?

The NBA doesn't have power to create change in China.  They will simply be banned from China and any influence they did have will be lost.  Thats bad for everyone.  I have massive problems with concentration camps and all the shady stuff that goes on in China which is why I'd like to start by closing our concentration camps, dark prisons, and reforming our police.  Once we clean up our own yard, then I might consider telling other countries how to run their shit.

gulags = "shady shit"

If gulags are "shady shit" does that, make organ harvesting "totally not cool?" Concentration camps do not exist in the USA regardless of your delusional redefinition of words to fit your insane ideology. As many problems as we have here, the USA is a FUCKING PARADISE of freedom and humanity compared to China, and you pointing your finger back at the US and screeching "NO U!!!" is not an argument.

According to reports, the Chinese censors have scrubbed all evidence of the TV show South Park from the Chinese internet. This includes taking down links to videos of old episodes, discussion threads on Chinese internet forums about the show, posts about the show on the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, and any other references to the show.

This comes after an episode of South Park recently aired, mocking Chinese censorship, the Chinese leader, and the hypocrisy of American companies who do business with/in China. The creators of South Park have given permission for everyone to watch the episode in question for free.

The creators of South Park have issued an apology to the Chinese government:
Quote
OFFICIAL APOLOGY FROM TREY PARKER AND MATT STONE.

"Like the NBA, we welcome the Chinese censors into our homes and into our hearts. We too love money more than freedom and democracy. Xi doesn't look just like Winnie the Pooh at all. Tune into our 300th episode this Wednesday at 10! Long live the Great Communist Party of China! May this autumn's sorghum harvest be bountiful! We good now China?"

I have long found South Park to be immature, have held this opinion for probably close to two decades, have never really enjoyed watching the show (I wasn't even aware it was still on the air), but am a very strong believer in free speech and freedom in general.

This comes amid Rockets (NBA) general manager Daryl Morey tweeting (and later deleting) his support for the people of Hong Kong, and their push for democracy. The NBA commissioner later effectively condemned the tweet. The Chinese government has responded by removing references to the Rockets, many Chinese companies have pulled sponsorships from the Rockets, and have declared they will not air NBA pre-season games.

chinese communists are fighting a hopeless battle, against american liberal artists only russian style whataboutism, could save them.

Colin Kaepernick was banished from the NFL for having an opinion against the Police killing innocent people.

whatever they do to their people, its their beezwax. if they kill whoever they have to kill, it must be in their laws. its the same thing when we hang people in the town square after they stand trial. their government being a totalitarian has its power, they can't just allow disrespecting them, i never heard jackie do that but he is happy. if they don't want any of their citizen criticize their government, how much more will they not allow if someone does it from the outside. but of course we all have free speech here, we can speak whatever we want to say about China but you can expect something of a retaliation.

Its none of his business what is going on with politics in China.  He is American, not Chinese.  There are enough problems to worry about in our country before he needs to criticize someone else.  Reminds me of Ali's mindset.

China censoring people within the US is non of our business... mmkay. Funny, you keep telling me you don't advocate for totalitarian centralized state communism, but here you are defending a nation that has literal gulags holding hundreds of thousands of people.

He is promoting Chinese propaganda...does your response mean that you are okay with putting Muslims in concentration camps? Or with the jailing of political opponents? I am pretty sure you are okay with China silencing those that don’t speak the party line.

It looks like Morey was the target of a state sponsored twitter smear campaign immediately after his initial tweet, with the number of tweets mentioning him spiking after his initial response.

LeBron James is a professional athlete and business man, why should he meddle in China politics? Like he has any influence in China internal affairs. What about all other major american companies that are making billions in China, i didnt hear them talking against China Government and these Hong Kong protests. So if Apple, Boeing, Starbucks bosses are keeping quiet afraid that they will loose shit load of money, why should LeBron talk about it?

Yet there he us talking about it ... defending China. You might have a point if he was silent, but that's not the case.

That sure does cut down on the incarceration rates now doesn't it?

gulags = "shady shit"

Golden State coach, Steve Kerr was asked about the human rights violations in China after he returned from China, and he responded by comparing the Chinese fascism to what happens in the US.

This is just absolutely ridiculous. The Chinese government has hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of Muslims in concentration camps, it kills political dissenters, uses surveillance against their citizens, and will arrest its citizens if they criticize their government. None of this is remotely comparable to anything that happens in the United States.

I am strongly against advertiser boycotts, however if there was ever an appropriate time to boycott advertisers, now would be the time to boycott advertisers of the NBA.

Aren't these people insane. Right when they're asked a question about AN ACTUAL COMMUNIST COUNTRY THAT KILLS THEIR OWN PEOPLE he resorts to "fuck drumpf"

Like what the hell dude.

I think Republicans and Democrats are pretty quick to say: Fuck China. They're a horrible country who is only allowed to commit the atrocities that they commit due how intermingled the global world of economics is. We should never look the other way due to this, but that's what politicians have decided to do and it's been fine with the people.

Fuck Steve Cur. Deport his ass to China so they can boil him alive and eat him in the dog meat festival. Also Nike is about to enter center stage in these boycotts, just you watch.

Nike profits off of Chinese slave labor and likely wants the NBA to pander to China.

This incident shows that Steve Kerr, along with other far left liberals only care about their personal power and wealth and don’t actually care about protecting the people they claim to be supporters of.

Regarding your meme, Nike executives probably won’t care if their employees speak out supporting Hong Kong, they will just fire any employee who does so

Lebron James recently said that that Daryl Morey should not have tweeted, but rather should have considered the '...financial...' consequences of what he was saying.

His statement, along with his subsequent tweets show that James only cares about his personal profit, and is a coward. Someone willing to speak truth to power would be willing to speak out against the Chinese government while in China. Instead James repeats Chinese propaganda.
