I asked for clarification. Personally I think it shouldn't be tolerated as it's quite clear he's just here to troll by spreading fud. Why is he even here? Is he doing this out of some altruistic motive? Nah. He's just trolling for the fun of it whilst he probably continues to buy bitcoin himself. Pretty sure it's just another account of long-time fudster and serial ban evader NLC anyway.

Do people honestly evade bans just to spread FUD? Do they have nothing better to do with their time?

Yes. Some trolls are very determined and that's how they get their kicks so it's not a waste of time for them. NLC has has had hundreds of bot accounts and dozens upon dozens of 'active' troll accounts banned. He's also the reason why newbies can't post images because he was spamming the forum with gay porn jpgs.

I really can't tell whether he's made a lot of money from bitcoin or lost a lot (or possibly both), but either way he's just a troll.

I've reported a couple dozen of his posts earlier today, before I saw this thread. It's not only FUD, it's just plain spam, kicking many old topics with useless replies. At his "peak", he took less than a minute per post.

Modlog doesn't show timestamps, so I'm not sure if posts got deleted from my reports or earlier. These are his:

I didn't even report half of his useless posts., but I'd say anyone who has 42 posts deleted deserves a ban.

Thanks for this. I had started to report his posts, but stopped because I worried reporting 50+ posts of the same person in 10 minutes would be frowned upon. Glad that senior members agree this is unacceptable behaviour.

Thank you for your input. I've only been here a few months, so wasn't entirely clear on the rules, didn't want to just assume. Do people honestly evade bans just to spread FUD? Do they have nothing better to do with their time?

I'm not sure if this who you're talking about but if it is freightjoe then I think it's probably a hacked/sold account anyway. The account was registered last August and all the early posts were all about "TEU – the shipping crypto currency" then the account went silent from September 15 to November 15. I called him out about that once and rather than answer he deleted all the old posts. Just remembered I have ignored altcoin bounties board and the posts are still there.

You have to admit. When we open any site we see ads from Google adsens.

I have trouble understand why people buy these, or how they can be effective. A month ago I decided to buy a wood burning stove, and I did a bit of research before buying one. Now, almost every site I visit shows me pictures and videos of wood burning stoves in the advertising slots. How many wood burning stoves do they think a Bitcoiner needs? It's not as if I'm going to start using them to power mining rigs. Smiley
Yeah you are right. It is similar to when you have bought an electronic device recently they will show lots of ads regarding it. Since we all are mostly spending our times in crypto related things, most of us sees crypto advertisements on other sites everyday besides bitcointalk. Those ads are effective because people see them and when others sees them, some feels the urge to obtain  something better than what they have bought. That'simplest answer to your question.

Can you turn off the TV ads? Spam is also a medium for advertising. You have to admit. When we open any site we see ads from Google adsens. This is also a kind of spam. You can fight it but you can't win. We must admit that spam has long been a part of our lives.

Bitcoin is maturing and becoming a store of value. There are exchanges that have minimum transaction values of $500,000+, and this level of investment is going to attract market manipulators. It may be that we will see more posters like this, who are accepting payments by heavy investors who hope to manipulate the market. The posts are not very intelligent, or well reasoned, so the best way to counter them is probably  to add a good opinion to show this. This will make the posts counter-productive, and it may be the easiest way to stop them.

I was on Bitcoin Discussion this morning, and I had some Déjà vu - I read a lot of these small threads days ago. Why are they back again? All down to one individual.

At the time of posting this, in the last 45 minutes he/she has revived over 30 threads, some being dead for weeks+, with low-level comments including:

Quote
"get-rich-quick is the mantra"

"there is no real crypto security"

"it is the best way to lose money"

"it did"

"Yup !"

"well spotted"

He/she is clearly just going through page after page, finding anything slightly negative, and bumping it back to the front page with empty and inane comments that add nothing to the discussion.

Now obviously each individual comment is low-level and against the rules, but is the behavior on the whole a more serious offence?

Edit: An hour later, we are now up to approximately 60 threads, some inactive for months, with more vacuous comments:

Quote
"of course it is"

"He is certainly right"

"yes it will"

"yes it is"

"listen"

Surely this kind of spamming isn't permitted?
