~snip~
Does anyone else think these are AI/bot-generated posts?  I swear it looks like someone is trying out some software or code for making posts about bitcoin.  The posts are well written enough to pass as genuine ones (albeit insipid garbage), and I wonder why anyone would try account farming at any point after the merit system was created--and especially now that everyone is on the lookout for bullshit like this.  I don't know what this one-man clown car was thinking.

It is possible that the posts were generated by AI, but in a way that they were generated by some AI as a task, because that is one of the ways that AI is trained. However, it seems to me that this is the work of human hands in an attempt to first create a certain activity for all these accounts, and then reward them with merits - which means that very quickly you get a bunch of Jr.Member accounts that can participate in bounty campaigns or can be used for some other purposes.

Anyway, the topic is locked, and so far I don't see that BPIP shows that any of the newbie accounts are permanently banned

I'm more inclined to suspect that Op is related to these spammers, I saw he was active on January 9th (don't know how long s/he was active). That's why I chose to report on that topic.

Well, I also suspected that and I also think that those accounts have some relation to OP's account and who knows that all of those accounts might be controlled by the same person just to shill out that thread. This is going to be the worst case of alt-farming and trust me the one who's doing it is just crazy. He's posting random replies from newbie accounts and my have belief that if others find so much involvement on his post then he may get some appreciation in the form of merits.

I also thought that those posts might be AI/bot-generated posts and when I tested a few of those texts on AI text detectors then the detectors detected those as human generated text. I think the one who's making such posts might have done something to play with the AI text and that's why he might be able to generated such text, but I'm not sure about that. I think someone should dig deeper to see that are those posts AI generated or not, I tried my best but I was unable to find any AI text in those posts.

You need to report any spammers who reply to the thread, not the thread.
I had to think about whether there were any viable alternatives for a case like this, but I'm afraid you're right.  Hilariousandco once suggested that if a single member has been making shitposts, you could report one or two of them with a note asking a mod to look at the member's post history (or at least the first page) instead of laboriously reporting each one.  But when there are a bunch of alt accounts as in the thread OP linked to, I'm not sure an appeal to a mod would go anywhere.

Really, I'm not saying you were wrong when you reported the thread to the moderator. Just do it and see what the moderators do about your report, but I would probably agree that a lot of newbies in that thread are building a lot of alts. As Lucius said, maybe they weren't very smart.

You need to report any spammers who reply to the thread, not the thread. The thread or discussion seems to be on the right board, but the error is when the thread is attacked by spammers which is then worth reporting.

Not quite the clever way to do alt farm, but apparently some have bitten the hook and entered into a discussion with someone who clearly has no sincere intentions. I agree that the thread should be deleted, and all these false newbies should be nuked. I will also report that thread with a reference to this topic, so we'll see what the mods decide.

Like you said, a lot of the comments there were made by newbies, their spam replies are not ideal though but we have to make effort to educated them as some of them do not know what they are doing. In part, I blame those who introduce the forum to them because they did not do a complete job and have also failed to guide them properly on the forum rules and the need to read up some threads that addresses their expected concerns like how to quote multiple people.

I encourage a little flexibility in newbies because I still remembered how it was for me coping here as a newbie. Most of them do things they don't even know are wrong, it is only with time they will understand and improve.

In my opinion, the correct action is to report every spam post made by spammers. Every account you mention seems to have the same activity, so maybe the mods will consider getting nuked too.

I stumbled up on this thread, https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitcoins-15th-anniversary-nearing-maturity-in-a-turbulent-world-5480751
OP just left the thread, then most of the replies by other newbie accounts, some of the replies include copy paste from other newbies with quotation marks. Looks like these are templated replies. I think there will be many more "newbies" to that thread with their typical spam.
I'll report that thread to have it locked (or trashed), but mods need also to take action with these accounts:
