Newbies should have some restrictions such as not being allowed to create topics in speculation subforums. However, there should be some other places where they are allowed to create new topics because total ban is a bit too much.

I think disabling 'new topic' button for newbies will work. They can still reply to threads but can't create one.

That it will be really unequal for them and the unique thing we can do is continue to report all their posts Wink (nothing else, newbie jail or other form to limitation will not resolve the problem at all... will only prolong the waiting).

Something needs to be done about the situation we have in the speculation forums.
Brand new accounts are spamming new topics on a daily basis.

This is very annoying to everyone that is participating for serious discussions.
Any ideas to fix the situation would be appreciated.

My suggestion:
Make it so that newcomers can't start new topics over there.

Get a couple mods for speculation only section to kick some arse, new topics offering nothing unique to get merged into a mega thread.

It is rather funny though seeing all the bull bear threads though and it is only one section.

So if someone comes here to ask a valid question and they can not create their own topic, what will happen? They will reply to an old topic, the reply will almost certainly be offtopic. In the worst case the reply will never get notived because the old thread is no longer watched.

That is a problem. I think there is no good solution for this except reporting.

Btw, I don't think post will be unnoticed but yes, it maybe off topic.

In any case we would cause more problems for those with genuine interest and question(s). The solution would also create more work for mods or at the very least not reduce the workload for mods. If the problem is new threads with worthless content and the workaround is to force the worthless content into replies there is no gain.

This really can't go on like this in the speculation forum. There is almost no discussion of value anymore. All thanks to probably the same person. Even more people will leave in the future if no action is taken. Is there anything that can be done about this?

If the newbie can't start a new topic, how could they learn more about Bitcoin if they even forbidden to ask?
I think it's more better if the newbie just can post a topic in newbie Board, and the unactive topic (which is the topic has answered or there is no one reply for more than a month) will be delete automatically.

Limiting them to not being able to make threads in speculation wouldn't really hinder them 'learning', but no amount of restrictions will ever really deter a determined troll.

Why can't we shadowban accounts that have more than X ignores

This would then be abused by trolls themselves. Dealing with spam is a tricky thing to tackle but this isn't the way.

It would give people like this too much power.   Undecided

Because the most unsavoury people here control the most accounts. No system will work based off votes or majorities.

So you're suggesting that there' should be board specific bans? Well if we're going to do that we might as well also bring back the newbie jail.

That just shovels the rubbish somewhere else, its been tested in many other venues and doesn't really work.

+1 for noobs not being able to make new threads.
I second this motion. I went through newbie jail like most of the other old-timers here. It's a tradition I think we should uphold for the sake of the those of the ovis persuasion.
