I have made buy and sell transactions many times in span a month. Because scalping style still profitable in bitcoin movement. Simple my goals, profit and save. I have can't to wait for huge profits by keeping bitcoins for longtime in exchange.

I got in at $250 and will sell 10% at $10,000, or 50% at $2500. Whichever happens first...

Goldman Sachs seem to be saying peak at 5k then halve. But then what do they know?

My guess is liquidity is much better shortly before the peak, so that it is easier to get money out of exchanges then.

I was wondering, if a 'whale' decided to sell 1,000 coins now and get the money out, how easy would that actually be in practice?
I understand Bitfinex have a 50k withdrawal limit.
In addition, is there real liquidity (ie, actual new dollar money entering the exchange) to allow for this size of exit?

Perhaps in reality the only way a whale could exit at the top of a price spike would be to slowly exit as the price rose, mopping up the new money entering the system.

Goldman Sachs saying $5k, then half means that better traders there think the opposite: first a correction, then moon.
They are not really in the business of guiding retail, aren't they?
The exact numbers of such "moon" is unclear, then a 1-2 year bear market until 2019 or so.

When i see the value of amount of bitcoins i hold i feel greedy and try to sell all and enjoy my life but i control myself and still waiting for the best and perfect opportunity to sell my bitcoin
Haha, I have a brother like you and he has sold all his Bitcoin when the price of Bitcoin still around $1300/BTC just for buy real estate. He skipped my warning about in next time Bitcoin can breakout and go the moon in this year, final he regrets his decision Tongue
If he had held the coins without cashing out now he could have made around 3 times the value as profit. Looking the current price I feel it's not that bad as the price stays above $4000. If there is no urgency in cashing out then try to keep hold until the end of the year.

It depends actually on what level the tolerance of one person and when will the pressure of price might affect his/her decisions to sell. It is unique to any of us, and I honestly say my tolerance is 4400$ and have sold mine for I can't handle too much pressure at that time. I know more will agree on my opinion.

Nice one. Collection of bitcoin and saving it for longer is best thing to became rich with bitcoin. My opinion is just till the value reach 1 Btc. If it happens means,I will sell when the price of bitcoin reaches maximum at that time.If you try like this, you will became a millionaire or billionaire.

I think that a low price will only be until the end of this week. Then starts the constant growth with minor setbacks and by the end of next week we will see a start. Stop will be more than $ 5,000, and then there will be a slight decline, and the relative stability until the next panic in November.

It seems like a lot of people might take some profit at 5,000. As we are currently around 4,500, that could be very soon if the price keeps on rising.
But I doubt there will be a lot of people taking money out of the system at that point. I mean people actually withdrawing funds from exchanges, in dollars.
If they simply keep the money in the account, ready for trading, any correction after 5,000 is likely to be only temporary.
But once the price gets to a level that is really making some people rich, then there could be some real profit taking, and then the potential for a more serious correction.

5k will have a massive sell off but it won't be until 5100-5300 if it follows the previous huge moves in the past. I'll try to sell right at the top and hope for a huge correction just after I do!

Even with 5k a lot of speculators will even start coming in with the believe that for it to reach this level of 5k then its going higher which is what will continue to happen in the crypto world and I don't see that stopping anytime soon, The time to sell will be decided on an individual basis and most times based on needs because I don't think I will sell my entire portfolio when I really need just $100 dollars to meet my need at the moment.
Remember the target created by the faith and the hope of trader on market, after breakout resistance line at $3,000 (the target of Bitcoin in early this year), I can't believe the price of Bitcoin can continue pass many resistance price until today, so everything is possible happening Grin
Yeah me too I agree to $5000 target, I was assume that before end of this year 2017 bitcoin price was continuously increasing. Also seems bitcoin performance was good and interested, maybe we need to trust in bitcoin ability to get our target amount.
I think you don't need to trust bitcoin because bitcoin is trusted people only making money if the price increase they are wrong in their prediction and mostly they are selling bitcoin below the price of the bitcoin that is why they are not making any profit
They are wrong in speculation and they are just following the trends if there is panic sell and the price is decreasing when you buy bitcoins with high price if you don't have a patience expect that you will be lose if you sell your bitcoin so better to be patience when you are holding in bitcoin instead buy more bitcoins if you  seen the price is getting low you can make more advantage to make more profit if you buy bitcoin in cheap price because the price of bitcoin can be increase more soon..
So for me if i buy bitcoins cheap and the price is high i can sell but not all my bitcoin only the few percentage of my bitcoin holdings that i need to sell just to getting the benefits of the price increase and sell bitcoin again just few percentage of your bitcoin so that you can be still sell if the price of bitcoin continues to increase..  just don't sell it all because there are times that you can just wasting opportunity because the price can be continues to increase...

This question should be rephrased. Price means nothing in a vacuum. The clear answer, however, is to sell BTC when the price substantially exceeds its future forseeable value. At this point, the foreseeable future value has few limitations. You could cite government crackdowns on cryptocurrency. If that does occur, might that not have a reverse effect to the price and value of cryptocurrency? Lack of availability is a great bullish driver of price, see the history of DeBeers diamonds for a case study of supply restrictions.

Nothing is impossible with the price of bitcoin to soar up high and to those who doesn't believe on bitcoin previously and heard the progress that bitcoin brought to my life since from the start of the price to show progress; my friends who are close to me gained interest to join bitcoin and participate in the campaign like this and planned to invest. So if I hold an amount I must wait for another price with a good amount may at around to reach at $5K, I will be glad to see that price became a reality just like of $4k now already happening.

Joe Kennedy got out of the market when he got a stock tip from a shoe shine boy. That's one way to tell when a market is at a peak - when people who normally don't invest and who don't know what they're talking about get excited. There were signs of that during the crypto boom earlier this year but it doesn't feel like we're there yet this cycle. It's actually the opposite - right now there's still negativity about things like the SEC ICO report and that goofy article from Forbes yesterday.

At present the price is unstoppable and it will further going to rise. So atleast for a year selling is not recommendable.  Infact you should invest in btc and other altcoins to get some good gains in coming months. BTC will be crossing 5k in coming month and thus a new high again will be created and crossing 5K will be a huge landmark for bitcoin. You can take some profit out at 5k if you feel price may go down.

This is a question for speculators, not hodlers.
Hodlers never sell!!!

Speculators - what is your selling price? When will you take profits in this price spike, if you haven't already?

I think the price is rising much faster than many think, and will easily be over 5k by Friday.
My guess is 8k is the peak, before a significant correction (perhaps taking it down as far as 2k, based on past volatility).
So by that reasoning, and given the severe volatility likely at the peak, I reckon sell at 6k in this price spike.

What do others think?

8k peak price seems very unreachable as of now even it would spike hitting up that price seems impossible as of these days.My selling point would be on 4500 and max on 4800 and if the price would hit up those boundaries i will surely sell and secure profits and buy again on cheaper prices later on.If this kind of rally would still continue maybe hitting 5k up would really be possible.

Exactly and that is why the speculators which is everyone of us will still want the price to continue rising and the bold wont even wait till it gets to $5000. The moment it reaches say $4800+, the next category of threads you see here will be "Bitcoin to the moon, $6000 is happening soon". In short, we are all ruled by our greed and nothing else. Someone who bought at $1000 wont still sell  at $5000 because of the guilt if it increases to $7000.

Users around the forum speculate that there is massive growth gonna happen by the upcoming days. Based on the same many users have stated that they have set their own targets and will be selling when the particular price is reached. As I was new I don't have any holding and trying to start earning.

There was a  pump happened just this week making the price climb up from $3000 to $4000, that is almost $1500 in just a week. I can't decide when to sell some of my coins because I am thinking that it may pump more and I will be regretting the fact that I did sell when it will be having a pump.
That's also concerned me what happen last week is just a glimpse of more possible jumped to happen overtime bitcoin can be stronger more maybe after few months and I'm planning to sell some of my bitcoin when it touches 5500$ then wait for some correction to happen again to place my entry.

That was my point.
is that september or novemeber? i think holding while price still increasing but after some correction maybe selling will be in need 6k$ would be a good deal
as for a short goal if i needed to cash some of my btc but if i can still hold i will do that i want to see more increase before end of this year.
$6000 is a good deal but how can you so sure that bitcoin price will hit that? If that is possible this year I will also want to waitbl for that price. If only I have more cash lately, maybe I have huge amount of bitcoin right now, last time I am always cash out my bitcoin but I think this is the right time to hold it.

Post is a bit outdated. All the speculators sold their bitcoins for 4400 dollars and bought for $ 4,000. We have seen how after reaching 4400 dollars the price plummeted. This means that everyone sold their coins. Now the price rises. Already 4100 dollars. It then began buying coins. Soon we will see a price higher than $ 4,500.

I already secured some profits just over the $4000 level, and I am looking to secure another part of my profits somewhere in the range of $4900-$5000 (assuming we happen to go up that far). Considering that the activation of SegWit is what's driving the price up largely, I expect a decent correction after the activation. In best case scenario, people will be able to buy back at very close to the $3000 level. That's what I consider to be a very generous opportunity to increase the number of coins that I have, before the market starts to go up again.

If you think $8K is the peak, than why sell at $6k? as you will lose another $2K, huge amount to miss. At least you should sell maybe around $7800.
Your words mean, you are not sure whether bitcoin could reach $8K before it get corrected, I am not either.
My best prediction is bitcoin will continue to rise after segwit be activated, and keep going to reach more than $5k or $6K.
I guess, this rally will stop on November when segwit2x hard fork or chain split will happen, that's the time when people start to withdraw their funds to save it, before buy back maybe at $2200 but I am not sure if it can be less than $2K.

Segwit2x hard fork will definitely be a showstopper, if the rally even keeps going until then. I also assume that BTC will not get much lower than 2k, if even that. However I doubt that BTC can go much past 5k -- this time. But I'll happily be proven wrong.

But is it wrong of me not to have a selling  price, but more a selling date?
I have looked up a few dates where I might consider selling coins if it's necessary.
Of course, if I look at the current price increase, it would be foolish not to react on it.
Maybe I have to reschedule my timetable.

I consider myself a hodler for the most part, but I've been slowly selling on the way up, and slowly buying on the way down as I have given up on trying to call the next top or bottom. I'm certain that BTC still has ways to go, but occasionally taking profits helps keeping a clear head. Also helps me keeping a warchest ready for when the next correction comes.

So by that reasoning, and given the severe volatility likely at the peak, I reckon sell at 6k in this price spike.

What do others think?

There will be No. limit for the bitcoin's price to increase. I think that i must sell some of my bitcoin portfolio in September to facing the next hardfork as far as i know regarding the segwit 2x

That was my point.

I do not think the price will reach 5k this friday. I am selling at 4300 because it is already a good profit for me and I think that is the resistance at this point.I will keep on buying and selling at 4300 top and 4000 bottom until the price breaks the 4.3K resistance level.

Great! when you wake up and it's $4500 and buy back in with a loss don't say I didn't warn you. Actually you should already know because that's just how this market is going right now.

to be honest,i will never sell it for 10 years if i could because Bitcoin price will rally for more than 5 years,
so it would be best if i don't sell it.
but i can not do it,so i will sell it whenever i am in need money or cash.
there're no specific time or place to sell it because if we make a mistake, who knows what will happen ?
for example my past experience, at the first year i am doing this kind of trade, from 10 trade i made 1 mistake and because of that all of my profits are gone.
basically, most of our profit did not come from daily trade but instead come from holding.

This is a question for speculators, not hodlers.

Holders are speculators too. They are speculating that the price of Bitcoin will continue to keep rising.

I think what you meant was gamblers. Gamblers speculate on things like sports scores, stock prices, dice rolls, lottery ticket numbers, etc.

Stock, crypto, precious metal, and other commodity trading is basically gambling, not investing.

Investing and gambling are both speculation.

I have sold few of my bitcoin at around $4k few days ago but after not seeing any correction I have bought back those bitcoin at around same range and I am already in profit. I might not sell my bitcoin below $5k now and I think $5000 is just around the corner.

I am selling just to buy back some bitcoin at cheaper rate on correction.

I sold 0.1 BTC today, at 3500+ euro. 2 months ago I sold a part of a Bitcoin at 2600+ euro.
My next sale will probably be at 4700 euro, 35% increase between sales seems okay for me. This way I can take some profit, which makes the inevitable drop in between peaks easier on my mind Wink

Recently I've decided to dedicated 1 Bitcoin to a new car, if that's ever possible, that's when I'll sell that one.

The sale is not so much determined by the price as it is by the circumstances. If it is going up fast, with no signs of slowing down (like it is now), it is more likely to continue so. I think one of the best moments to sell is when after reaching a high, it begins to go down so you do not cut your earnings.

I'll only ever sell in two cases:
1. if I really need money and have no other choice (which happened recently).
2. whenever I see a fast rise and I feel that this is the top and we are close to a correction. I never sell large amounts though. it is always a small manageable amount that I have set aside for trading purposes and I sell that to buy back more, saving profit in bitcoin at the bottom.

to be honest $5000 seems like a possibility now! I wouldn't be surprised anymore if I woke up one day in the following weeks and saw it is reached. but a big correction is also near too.

I am an long term holder since 2012 but had some thoughts about at what price I would sell. My goal was always $10k. But I also would be happy with $8k. Catching that peak, buy back at $2k oah that would be crazy of course.

I think it really depend on the person. If you have like 50x or returns or more then logically it make sense for you to sell. But then again, holding is the best  choice right now because the price keeps going up. Before $3000 was the mental barrier, but now $4500 or $5000 should be. That is why is really hard to predict the price of bitcoin because you don't know when the sudden dumps will come. I guess the peak price for this year is $7000 and I'm seeing a price correction once we touch this price in the future.
