Yes, in my country you can use an app as a wallet and also to buy certain certain digital goods such as load for your SIM Card. What's more beneficial is you can get a rebate from your bought load. It plays around 10% rebate so it is really worth the buy. You can also pay all sorts of bills in it, not just electricity but also all utilities such as for your ISP or Water company. It is really convenient in fact that Bitcoin is getting more popular than ever.

Maybe you are talking about coins.ph mate. Its really convenient and we are happy that they have support for the paying bills like internet, water and electricity. I have used that functions as well and its very convenient to us.

But as far as the OP's questions, Yes, there are really wallets that do support that function. However, the issue is that no grocery has yet so far accepting bitcoin or crypto as payment method. We have been dreaming that this, used bitcoin as micro payments. But sadly, it will take a couple of years before we can see this happening.

Are there any usable options that allow us to load BTC to a phone wallet (only a small amount, so not real worried about security) and then walk into a store and pay for groceries (priced in the local Fiat) using part of the BTC balance?

Clearly there would be no card, so it would have to be some kind of NFC, Android pay, other contactless solution.

in my country you can not use bitcoin in your daily life. but I know a friend who has traveled a few countries around the world with bitcoin. I saw a similar title on this forum. it will become even easier in the future.

this is possible due to the technology we have some merchants have systems for their businesses in order to accept bitcoin as payment, here in the Philippines, there are already merchants that do so, and some bitcoin users do treat their bitcoins like fiat, they easily go on spending spree, like our app, wherein you can buy load for your phones, pay bills and pay others as well, i think it because of its availability and it is more convenient than traditional going over the counter and through credit card, still money management here needs to take place.

I have not seen such applications. Perhaps in some countries such as Japan there is a local application allowing the use of bitcoin for payment but I hardly understand how it happens. Confirmation of transactions happening very slowly. I doubt anybody wants to wait that long. In other countries, such an application would be illegal.

If there is a store that accepts payments using bitcoin from the wallet that is on your phone, I think it's too risky, I think we need to exchange our bitcoin to fiat, bitcoin prices that tend to increase as well as very fast decline, it Which can not be done for transactions from your phone wallet. This will cause losses from the store that receives payment with bitcoin, if the price of the goods you buy is not worth the bitcoin price that is decreasing. To do this there needs to be a better technical, so that no parties feel a loss for the transactions made.
I agree with that but what if there's no other way to transact in using bitcoin. How can we deal on this few years from now if the systems don't accept bitcoin. But just in my case I really cash out my bitcoin change to our currency and that's the time I purchase goods so that it will be useful. If it means to decreasing point I don't have to worry at all.
It is possible only when the price of the bitcoin will become stable. Otherwise, it is a big loss for both customer and the shoppe owner. After paying your bill through Bitcoin, the price increase means what will do it is profit for the shop owner. If it reverses the price drops means it is a loss for shop owner so this will not work out until the price will become stable.

My local exchange wallet allows me to buy load directly and it exchanges my btc to fiat automatically whenever I make a purchase. I guess this would be convenient if I could do the same with other products such as food, clothes, shoes etc. It's quite possible for something like this to happen in the near future but there are some problems such as security.

I agree that some merchants may not accept BTC as a payment because of the price stability. It would be a loss for them if the price of BTC goes down suddenly.

Most of the solutions for this won't be dependent on the store owner accepting bitcoin whatsoever, when the transaction is executed it will instantly sell the bitcoin from the purchasers account for the currency of the store (usd for example) and then credit that currency to the stores account. This way no one is receiving anything they don't want to and they aren't liable to price changes etc.

It depends on the location, if the place you were belong is accepted and considered the service then its fine. But if we are talking about the security I am not sure by that. But if your transaction is not that big you can handle it.

To use that thing you need to have NFC at your phone and isntall any app like TenX or any other which have an already added card to use from your phone. I know there you can chose from different cryptocurrencies like BTC,LTC,MONERO et. and pay by a wallet in your phone

As mentioned above, Crypterium meets all your requirement. Just for some clarification, it'll be possible to use Crypterium for the transactions in points which accept mastercard paypass, visa paywave, unionpay quickpass (icluding ATMs) instantly after application launch.

Feel free to ask questions in Crypterium ANN thread.

I think there is some establishment that really accepts Bitcoin as a payment in exchange of their goods or services, just scanning the QR code and that's it. And when about the security it is better to always activate your 2 Factor Authentication in opening your account and withdrawing balance to it as it is a secure safety measure that can really help when sending Bitcoins. Localbitcoins I think is the best choice for loading your BTC wallet, just try downloading a legit mobile application that cater Bitcoin wallet.

I don't see any application like that currently. But you can always choose to pay via your wallets and all the barcode scanner features available. The merchant if accepts the bitcoin then they can accept it buy scanning the codes. It is one and the same thing as you are saying here. NFC and contactless tech would be far from now and very futuristic for bitcoin because of all the implementations and related complexity. That will be achieved soon anyway. But for now you can consider it as simple as sending the normal way. Plus you will need to find a merchant first who accepts the bitcoin because as we can see there are rare merchants for now. :-)

Well I used to watch a documentary about a woman living for a week using bitcoin.  It just put her phone on something and automatically deducts her bills.  I guess as of today there is no such thing as you are thinking.  But here in my country we can buy phone credits using bitcoin.

Well there are some alternatives present like Bitpay or Purse (specifically for Amazon). But the thing you finding is not technically possible. The merchant need to have some medium to accept payment even in fiat.
Best option available to use is Debit Card which is redeemable via Bitcoins or altcoins. There are several available but with high fees.
Currently Social Nexus is building a debit card system with their own cryptocurrency much could come up as much cheaper.

If you're a bitcoin user, one of your biggest problems is finding places to spend your bitcoin. Converting fiat currencies into bitcoin – and vice-versa – can take days, multiple accounts, and multiple apps. The BitPay app is our way of making it a bit easier. Our integration with bitcoin exchange Glidera lets you buy and sell bitcoin directly to and from addresses you control. That means you never have to store your bitcoin in an exchange account.

That’s possible if you find a shopping site that accepts it or if your seller is willing to accept bitcoin as a
form of payment, if that’s not on the list then there is no way, you have to exchange your coin before you can use it as cash.

I have no answer for the full question, but I can say that if you have an iPhone, you are pretty much blocked for this...
On iPhone you can have bitcoin wallet and pay in BTC to third parties, or you can have a virtual credit card app and pay in on-line shop, that's it.

I don't think we need any such app. Normal web wallet with in-built option of showing BTC balance in fiat values will work out. You can easily view BTC values in fiats in Coinbase, etc. But think which matter most is whether shop owners accept BTC or not. Any app or wallet could work out only when both buyers and sellers agree to use it.

Seems like all the debit cards require various form of account verification, was hoping for a phone solution that does away with those requirements....if you know what i mean....

If it's the requirements you're worried about, then I suggest that you use an exchange wallet. It allows you to easily exchange BTC to your local currency, and some wallet providers allow online payments like billing or game credits. Some exchange wallets also have phone applications so its convenient to use. I don't of any phone wallet that allows you to buy in a grocery like fiat, without any use of a card. Also, I think it would depend on your country and whether the grocery store accepts online payments.

But would be convenient if a wallet provider had this feature, wouldn't it? One that allows us to exchange bitcoin into fiat instantly then acts like visa pay wave or a debit card.

Things like this I am sure is already in play after all, a lo of us already have the capacity based on our phones to be able o buy and sell bitcoin without any issue. The remaining part is getting a store to accept bitcoin and thats is all. All that will be needed to make hat happen will be from their part to install the software that would connect with the ones we have and make the transaction a seamless one.

Go to https://bitpay.com and apply for a credit/debit card with them so you can pay with Bitcoin from your debit card. Smiley

I don't think there is an app to pay from your phone yet, but the above method should work. Wink

Thanks, do they provide any anonymity?  Or do they require the full set of ID, pictures, etc.....

Would rather not deal with that if there are other options!  But doesn't seem like there are any.

I don't think that's possible. The best solution would be a debit card. Several companies are offering this at a fair price. That would be your best bet.

I agree, Bitcoin debit card si so far the best solution. It's easy to get and easy to use, for me the most convenient way for spending Bitcoin so far. But ih the future there would be probably mobile Bitcoin wallets that would allow direct Bitcoin payments like se are having for fiat money and cards.

Spending bitcoin as if using fiat is possible with certain wallets that have got the mobile application. Primarily as the user stated based on the country the accessibility of bitcoin similar to bitcoin varies. In most cases localbitcoins serves as a better way to load fiat in term of bitcoin.

But OP wants to buy things from the shops directly from the online wallets. I'm not sure about the other countries but in my country as of now nothing I can buy directly from bitcoins. I think it will take more time to reach that level of bitcoins acceptance. Currently mostly used in gambling, porn and trading purposes.
Bitcoin in outside still not popular, so most shops on the world's don't accept Bitcoin for payment, because the time confirm and receive Bitcoin need many time if not use high fees. I know at now just have Japan, India are country accept Bitcoin like a payment gate and people at here also use it.

I think there are apps that does that already. Some apps that act as your wallet, is affiliated with billing companies like electricity and water, allows you to shop for groceries and even provides specials and bonuses. Though probably it would depend on where you're located.

I strongly believe that theres still no such feature on what you are seeking for but there are other ways which you can spend your bitcoins depend on the merchant if they do accept bitcoin and also theres a bitcoin debit card which you can use since its visa type just like on usual cards you would able to load up with the use of btc and automatically converts on your currency.

I think it depends in the wallet you are using and the country you are in. Here in PH we have coinsph wallet app that stores btc and peso. We can choose to use either peso or btc in purchasing game loads, mobile prepaid and pay our bills. It is quite effective for me since I can use my btc like cash. I can even use it as a source of income too wherein I can put up a bills payment center and an electronic loading station with just my phone, the app and the internet of course.

Since no one else answered your question directly, I will. The answer is no. There is currently no way for you to load Bitcoin on your phone wallet and then pay using fiat.
The only method that is similar to this is Bitcoin debit cards, whereby you pay for things using your Bitcoin balance and a debit card though one of the various companies that provide this service. To the cashier it looks like a normal transaction with a standard debit card (it is), but in reality you are paying from your online Bitcoin wallet. It is very similar to what you are asking for. Hope this makes sense.
The fact is that spending Bitcoin will be what way, at least recklessness. Really no one can understand that even after a few months you will be able to go Bitcoin to afford a few times more.

Seems like all the debit cards require various form of account verification, was hoping for a phone solution that does away with those requirements....if you know what i mean....

There are plenty of NFC based systems for P2P transactions. While going through some of them I hit through this https://news.bitcoin.com/shake-enables-bitcoin-nfc-payments.

On further going through NFC based cards are also available: https://news.bitcoin.com/nfc-bitcoin-wallet-cards. You can try this service as well : https://plutus.it

Also there is another NFC based cards of which you can find thread at bitcointalk. Recently it was sold but I think services are still going on(mean to say card still is working). Check this thread: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-qrypto-the-all-in-one-bitcoin-card-website-launched-1652880

There are many reputed users who have tried this card and have gone without a problem. Contact the OP and he will let you know how his system works if you are interested.

Above are the services available but since you are finding some way to put local groceries then I think they must be accepting payments in BTC and little bit awareness on working of NFC. Those are the only prerequisites that you can overcome by making them aware about it.

It's doable and you don't need any contactless technology or NFC and things. You can actually pay the store in bitcoin straight from your wallet if they do accept the bitcoin. You can just scan the QR code for their phone to pay them directly your wallet. Another option is to send from phone number to phone number from a wallet. For example, Zebpay is wallet which can use phone numbers to send the bitcoin and it don't have any fees as you are transferring funds internally. So likewise you can get your job done.

I still hesitate to use Zebpay wallet yet many people recommend it for use. So you can guarantee the security of using Zebpay wallet? I hope it's not a good choice but if it's very safe what's wrong with trying.

It will depend if your grocery or shops there is accepting bitcoin. No matter how many bitcoins we have on mobile and began walking around if there's no place to spend it physically then it's not making sense.

Having bitcoin setup on phone is easy as there are web exchanges app that can do that thing. The process surely is scanning the QR or the usual way to send bitcoin.

OR you can convert your bitcoin to an application balance that has a payment option where almost all groceries in your country accept it, like china, everyone in there using Wechat for daily transactions, it so easy and fast. Bitcoin is good, but i think it's not the time yet to using it, there is still many disadvantage like the price is really unstable that can make seller or buyer loss.

There is bitcoin debet cards with which you can pay directly in places that takes bitcoin for payment. On the forum there is the information about such card and you can read all details, but about phone apps or phone wallets I really don't know. Sorry.

I don't think it is possible, unless the grocery shop in question accepts bitcoin as a payment method. The closest i can think of is converting your coins to FIAT using bitpay, yet your grocery shop must be signed up to bitpay to make it possible.

I did not know. I take my bitcoins to a Bank card and pay her in any store. Our smartphones too poorly protected from break-ins to store our bitcoins. I don't even trust your Bank cards, and so deduce money there just before you buy.

I think you should learn it on the site in your country. In my country, I can buy the cards for the phone by bitcoin, it is done very quickly, you just wait for a single confirmation.
