During my stint working in an advertising company, we learned that sending emails to just anyone is just a waste of advertising budget and time. There's this thing so called targeted advertising. If you know that the one you are sending that email is kinda interested in bitcoin, then by all means go ahead and send that email. Even ads network uses cookies to target their audience and to serve them the most relevant ad.

IMO, what you can do to spread the user base of bitcoin is by starting in your own backyard. How many people you know in your neighborhood is using bitcoin? I bet not much. So start with them rather than sending spam emails.

1. Download the zip or rar for a Desktop Bitcoin Wallet or zip one up yourself.
2. Email 100 people with a message about Bitcoin and the Wallet files.
3.  In the email give links to information about Bitcoin, some for the absolute newbie and some more technical.
4. Explain how they can get started.  Rather than talk about mining or faucets or whatever, tell them how you have used and gotten Bitcoins.
5.  Tell them that whether they use the system or not to pass the email on to another 100 people.

this is not a good idea, and most probably not gonna work.
1,2. if you mean an empty wallet installer then what is the point of me downloading it and not simply giving the direct link. and sending 100 people a zip file, i am gonna be in 100 different blocklist.
3,4. they are not going to read the rest if they see the attachment and even they do they think i am planning on scamming them.
5. this is the worst one, nobody likes these chain emails. they are for like 15 years ago and not even favorable back then.

p.s. you should do this for people who you know and you should introduce them to something like coinbase where they can buy/sell/store and do all other good stuff in one place then tell them about a wallet.

i think spreading news among the paypal users and among those who uses other alternatives will be a much better idea as more active users will be using btc instaed of paypal and other alternatives
We should teach them why bitcoin is better than those stuff and how they can save much more time and get more profit

better we can spread about bitcoins in social networks like facebook and twitter. and we can spread the bitcoins to our friends and neighbours first. because many of the people not aware of it. we should make them understand what is it.

I promote the bitcoin to my friends. But they are not interested. Maybe it is not reported enough by main media.
What you do is good mate, but media is not required for give hype of this evolving technology.

Media is very important for the promotion of bitcoin. I heard about bitcoin through main stream media first.

Yeah, actually I am doing that right now on Facebook and I can really see their interest on bitcoin especially in terms of earning online (they were amazed when I told them we can earn online with bitcoins easily) I am currently an admin of a Facebook group dedicated to bitcoin newbies locally with 7000+ unique members (I filter and kick out dummies) and still growing.

Increasing awareness of bitcoin might not be like spamming with email. If you send 100 emails, email service providers will clearly list the email into spam folders. That will degrade the bitcoin growth. However, one to one meets, local meetups, group gatherings, and groupon like bulk buy promotions are highly encouraged.

Bitcoin isn't ready for the majority of people to use seriously as money or store of wealth. That will take 10 years or more to happen through building infrastructure and getting people used to the idea of a purely digital money that is sort of like email.

Realistically, I don't think any one right now is expecting Bitcoin to function as major currency. For that to happen we must come to an agreement about the blocksize issue first. This can happen within a few months, but can also take probably longer than a year. People are nowadays paying with their smartphones more and more. No physical money is involved in this process. That will make people get used to the fact that the world economy is becomming more digital year after year.

I think better way to increase user base or better to say involve more friends and family into bitcoin is offering them some bitcoin as gift if they open bitcoin wallet. This amount will be like tip but ask them to find out how and where they can spend those funds. Than after that they will better know about purchasing power bitcoin have.

We can do in online communities, debate actually attracts a lots of attention among the people. At this stage all publicity is good publicity, and you'll have your opponents creating publicity for you. It has the advantage of not looking proselytizing but still exposing everyone to the arguments, the price growth, off-site links, etc.

Plan for the New Year.

How to spread Bitcoin in 2016.

1. Download the zip or rar for a Desktop Bitcoin Wallet or zip one up yourself.

2. Email 100 people with a message about Bitcoin and the Wallet files.

3.  In the email give links to information about Bitcoin, some for the absolute newbie and some more technical.

5.  Tell them that whether they use the system or not to pass the email on to another 100 people.

There are a few issues with this simple "chain letter" based network, but it should get a good chunk of new users.  Many times virus programs might target the new wallet if you zipped it yourself, but this will be rare.

Like most chain letters it will not expand as much as you think, but it only takes a minute and is great for the system.  You can even offer to send a Satoshi or two once they have gotten set up.
Most of people do not download things from the 'spam emails' so i doubt anyone will open the zip, for newbies introducing to them a web wallet would be easier for them to join the bitcoin world.

My sad experience is that when you spread the word about Bitcoin (or other coins), people get a sense that you are responsible for explaining them how to make it work and make money of it.

How is this sad? I love helping people!

Many people is ignorant and this people think: "all it than not know, all it bad!"
Before, we need that many sellers, boutique etc, begin to accept as valid method payment btc

My sad experience is that when you spread the word about Bitcoin (or other coins), people get a sense that you are responsible for explaining them how to make it work and make money of it. At least for me, that means lots of questions and enquiries as if I was the owner of the thing: "Hey this thing you told me about does not work!", "I have done that and that and no money yet!!" etc.

So I am a little afraid of doing such a thing.

I think merchants play a bigger role then consumers.
Why?
Well simply if consumers find a lot of merchants accepting bitcon it will create awareness and people will be intrigued.
Visiting the bitcoin.org website they will find so many advantages that they eventually will try it.

I agree with this. More merchants who accepts Bitcoin as a payment option, more people will be curious and will test use of Bitcoin. Much better if there will be a popular online store who will come up with a Bitcoin only day payments to increase awareness of Bitcoins.

Yes, if the online market giants direct start accepting bitcoins means, there are more chances for bitcoin to get spread out to reach non technical people also. It would make bitcoin to become main stream adoption. The price raise of bitcoin will make many merchants to accept bitcoin as a payment.

your method is like spamer, im not agree with your method, better you give everyone some bits with xapo invited method, so everyone will register and receive some money,,

or yu can send everyone coinbase referal code, then send him some bits, so everyone will get money and if your referal buying bitcoin yu can get some bits too
I don't think dust amount of btc will get ppl interested at it! Probably 0.001BTC worth around 40 cents. You could spread the ppl around you! But it will be costly when doing this to thousands of ppl.

you can give every people 0.002 then introduce to top up his mobile number with piiko.com or other bitcoin service, if he know how bitcoin work , i think he will interesting to use bitcoin

Most likely the email will end up in the spam folder as google or other email servers have their own crawlers to scan for any words that is related to unsolicited emails. Not a good idea and may be reported as spamming.

Dude I can't stand people who send out silly chain e-mail crap like this.  I'm not going to be that guy who does this.  Aren't you the one who's starting an exchange outlined in that very unprofessional topic you started?

I don't think OP's all tactics will work completely to spread bitcoin to common fiat users. I feel they can use to take seminar about bitcoin to near by public places to make fame in bitcoin. We have to exhibit the bitcoin's features in any perfect place. Share about bitcoin in social networks like facebook, Twiiter and etc.
op's methods is wasting time. What we need to do as an individual is to use and spend it when possible and share our experiences with others! Your friends may get more interest!

No offense but to me that would lookk like a normal kind of chain letter/ soime sort of scam. we dont really want people associating biutcoin with scams since we get enough of it already. if i never suspected it to be a scam i would at the very least expect there to be some sort of virus in there.  Thats just me though, maybe im paranoid.

If we want to spread Bitcoin, we need to advertise it effectively. Even the word of mouth can do big things in spreading bitcoin, but, to spread bitcoin, we need to make it to be more recognized, like making more business accepting bitcoin will help spreading bitcoin very fast and effective.

This sounds like a spam to me and spamming is not a good way of advertising a certain program. This might just lead to suspicions on bitcoin coz people will assume spam messages were not safe. I think it will just cause a bad image on bitcoin. Sorry but I think this is not a good idea.

Talk to others unfamiliar with bitcoin over the holidays, show them how to use it practical, answer their question as good as you can. Dont force a conversation or bitcoin as a topic, if they dont bite after you tried 1-2 times, let it be. E-Mail spam is not going to convince anyone.

I guess you missed your chance, maybe next year.

I think most people will not even open these kind of emails, and certainly not click on links and unzip files. This won't help Bitcoin move forward, it will piss people off. It doesn't matter if the email comes from friends or family. No email can be trusted unless you are expecting an important email to come in. Even then people will double check everything. Also, people may report these kind of emails with Bitcoin as subject as being spam. Your actions will have opposite effect.

it's not a thing that us can do, it's a thing about merchants, you need to wait for it to happen naturally, when they will increase the limit on the block, i'm sure more merchants will accept it

also it has to do with regulation in many countries
