Excellent point.  If your not reasonably comfortable with Linux then a Fully Managed VPS is probably the route your going to want to go.  Unless you have a trusted friend that is familiar.  It's not all that difficult to learn though if your willing to invest the time and effort and in the long run unmanged VPS are going to be alot cheaper across the board Wink

I think, the first thing you need to know what you want... a managed VPS or an unmanaged one. For unmanaged VPS, I'd recommend Amazon Cloud over Digital Ocean. For managed VPS, I'd recommend http://besthostfree.com/vps-hosting.html. As evident from the following thread, a lot of people on this forum has used this service as well...

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/web-hosting-100gb-space-1000gb-traffic-112-usdmonth-try-for-free-617213

I am going to stake POS coins. I am not sure which type of VPS should I opt.. managed or unmanaged? what difference does it make to run multiple wallets mainly for staking? Appreciate your info.

Managed = LAMP stack is ready + Security settings are ready... Mostly like shared hosting, but you have root access and boot ability. Can add resources on the go.

Unmanaged = You get a clean space with only OS. Do everything yourself.

In my understanding, if you have no previous experience with Managed VPS, you wont be able to handle an Unmanaged one. You would be forced to hire someone and ultimately be under his control.

After doing a bit of VPS feature and price comparison between Namecheap and Vultr I think I would strongly lean towards Vultr.  You can start for as little as $5/mo for 1 CPU and 768 MB of RAM and they have a far more granular and ultimately cheaper pricing structure.

Thank you. Received your PM as well.

-If youre staking coins Blackcoin which refers to POS2,  -I guess- 512 MB ram configuration is enough.

PS: Other posters were more interested in VPS services , but I guess you were asking the configuration needed to work with 3 wallets.

Before deciding to buy a VPS , you may need rethink why you want to stake 24/7.

Yes, My only purpose is to run POS2 wallets and stake. I wish to stake 24/7 coz thats how POS2 coins work as I see. Thanks for info.

Hi, I do not wish to run my personal pc 24/7 for staking purpose. I heard good things about cloud vps. Any recommendations and relevant information?

I see in digitalocean.com the following plans. https://www.digitalocean.com/pricing/

If I want to run 3 wallets 24/7 for staking purpose which plan should I opt? Looks like there is no option for windows :/

thank you.

Configuration depends on your coins.

-If youre staking POS coins like PPC , you dont even need to run your wallet 24/7. Just wait for staking age, open the wallet and wait sync and stake , then close it. Thats it , nothing more.

-If youre staking coins like NXT , NEM. You should know that you must have at least 100k for NXT (adn more for NEM I guess) for solo staking. But in Java coins you can stake your coins at pool without any risks just by leasing. Pools cut a small fee for your share. And again you dont need any VPS. But still if you want to stake those coins, they will need more than 750 MB memory.

Personally I kind of like http://www.namecheap.com (and they accept bitcoin;)

But there are now dozens of places offering VPS services and accepting crypto as payment which makes them all the more convenient imho.

appreciate your info. I had a look at https://www.namecheap.com/hosting/vps.aspx Which config is best if i wanted to run mutiple wallets? VPS Lite - Xen?
Sure thing.  The trick with running multiple wallets is largely contingent upon which wallets you want to try running.  Some are far more resource intensive than others.  Not to mentioning varying blockchain sizes, etc.  But I think the VPS-1 XEN would be a better starting option for you (in my personal experience, alot of staking wallets are quite memory intensive).  And you can always move up later should the situation warrant it.

*I personally do the majority of my staking across multiple systems here at home but generally the more instances of a -qt you want to run, the more memory your going to want to have.  Particularly if your talking about certain coins Wink

You might want to check into Vultr as well, they may be a better deal for staking honestly.  They too accept BTC.
