I'm just saying, I noticed your mini-games of the same style popped up right before the increase in spam of these sorts of games...

lol.... I'm pretty sure I started it (not 100% positive).  I had started up a game a little over a week ago because I saw a thread for a dead one the night before, with someone asking if there would be another.  So the next day (when I hadn't seen another double trouble started) I started mine up.

I have two right now, just going to let them run out (according to the rules in each) then laugh at all the spam of games.
I saw your game, started working on Double Trouble Automatic/Instant then noticed hawks6559 (or w/e).
Once my game came out, so many people wanted to make their own like tysat and hawks it wasn't funny.
I had the edge Grin

Well, I sold my script; so, maybe the automation will pick back up.
FYI: I'm not selling my script anymore.

web dev is all fairly easy and the 'api' to access the bitcoin client is very simple.  I started working on a codebase to run a pyramid from it but i quit when i realized theres not enough money there.

had full access in php to all the functionality in bitcoind in about 20-30 minutes.  rest of the work in the business logic.

I am a software developer, well versed in low-level languages but when it comes to web-dev I would not know where to start. I have no knowledge of even the basic keywords. I've been thinking about getting the ball rolling on some apps for android phones, but that would involve some level of web-development in the end.

depends exactly what you wanted to create, I would typically charge about 45-50$/hour on a consultancy gig, and a basic doubling scheme would probably only take a few hours to automate completely.

anything fancy would add to that of course.  Currently I'm a sr applications developer with a very highly regarded HBSc, with about 6 years experience.

just wanted to add I'm not making any more of these, besides the obvious reasons of my rep being absolutely destroyed by ilikeham, I would be taking huge losses based on the cost of my time as it is.

anyone whos thinking about starting one of the schemes would be best advised to either automate it, or forget it.

this is a good idea as these games are simple for users, but are fairly time consuming for operators. Like previous posters have stated, they are not a *bad* idea due to them being one of the things bitcoins stands for at this point in time. It is a shame that there is not a sub-forum dedicated to this though. There will most likely be a forum put in place for these sorts of activites in the future, but if there isn't I wouldn't mind creating somewhat of a "gaming" site for these little mini-games for people to host.

Just out of pure speculation right now, how much would it cost me to hire a web-developer for a simple contract based on this idea?

I gotta be honest - I don't mind there being a variety of games to play. I understand why people get annoyed at the spam (and continue to second the idea of putting them all into a separate sub-forum).

Here's why the games are a good idea to have around, even if they are considered a "scam" by some users.

* There aren't a lot of things to spend BTC on right now. It's an easy, low-risk way to get to know the system and the quirks of sending and recieving BTC.
* These games are much less rigged than anything you find in your typical casino.
* Gaming for money is addictive, and it's also something with mainstream appeal. You want to spread BTC to the masses? Have accessible games with a high chance of winning, and you'll educate more people quicker than anything.

There are downsides - these are just my observations as someone who enjoys playing the odds while I'm at work (the way I see it, most of my coworkers are playing farmville - at least I have a chance at getting a couple bucks back - :-) ).

Well, I'm shuttering my pool after the current round ends at 10:00 EDT. I suggest we all focus on establishing Herbert's automated pool as the best one to start cutting out the spam here.

No a piddly jackpot doesnt make it a diff game,
neither does a diff. deposit amount people.
If it is exactly the same as the 34 other games,
DO NOT MAKE ANOTHER ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
