I got same bunch of e-mails few days ago ...

my question is ..

How should someone know which email Im using for bitstamp ? Was thier database of emails abused or sold ? As my email for bitstamp is very "unique" and I use it only for bitstamp.

I got this as well, multiple times (but i have alot of email addresses going to one).

I just ignored it, i don't think its actually bitstamp. Also they normally only utilize their insite support portal to communicate, i've never before communicated with them by email.

People still havent learned to check email headers when an email looks suspect to see where it ACTUALLY came from?

I wont even go into opening random files on a winblows machine.

Wow no wonder so many people get hacked and loose all their bitcoin.  How do they keep their bank accounts secure?

Heck my tech illiterate mother knows not to open any attachment and to ask me if its really from the bank...........

I got it. Don't open it. Forward the e-mail with a message explaining that you think it is fraudulent to [email protected].

Just received another email.  Text and attachment is the same heading/title is different.

Heading is : "Bitstamp (Trading will be suspended for 24 hours)"

Quote from: @Bitstamp
ATTENTION all Bitstamp USERS - new phishing attempt. Ignore all email with the subject "Bitstamp trading will be suspended for 24 hours".

I haven't received anything, careful with that!

Always check their Twitter feed for announcements: https://twitter.com/Bitstamp

Careful, do not open the attachment.  possible malware/virus.

There has been no mention on Twitter that I have seen.

email addresses can be spoofed easily, which is clearly what has been done here.

I have received an email titled "You are late to confirm your account balance!".

The email has an attachment.

Copy of text is:

"Hello everyone! and apologize for the delays and lack of communication are currently working on some design improvements / server.
During the week we will update this page with the status of the project, given the final stage where we are.

Steps For March 8, 2014:

Please check if your balance in this file is correct ( Same your wallet balance ) .. And replay asap if you see any problem."

I have sent an email to BitStamp a short time ago requesting clarification.  May not get a quick response as it is Sunday.

Anyone receiving this email should take care and not open the attachment at this stage until we know if it is genuine.

I find it odd that BitStamp would send this type of email.
