You need to realise that a lot of them are generally estimating for "next block confirmation"... not "within 6 blocks" which is the "less than one hour" metric.

Also, given the volatility of the network lately... "within one hour" can easily become "within one day" if you send a transaction just as a massive spike kicks off. Ask me how I know! Undecided

Johoe's stats and btc.com are my goto pages to get an idea of what the Network is doing... then I usually just ignore it and send with 1 sat/byte anyway! Tongue

If btc.com recommends 0.0003btc/kvb on the transaction fee it's equal to 30 satoshi/vbyte. I also use different estimators but I mostly like btc.com (because it's for segwit transactions) and the stat page by johoe.

Thanks
30 sat/byte is still absurd. No need to use a fee like this.
btc.com is overestimating fees... I think all of them overestimate fees..

https://bitcoinfees.net/ says that 9 sat/byte will confirm in less than one hour.

I *personally* like the Current best transaction fees info at the bottom right of the btc.com page. I find it fairly accurate. If I for whatever reason need it to be in the next block, I use that number (perhaps +1 or 2 % to be sure)

I tried to take a look at those fees, but I really didn't understand. Now they are recommending 0.00003 BTC/kVB. Wtf is that? Is it 3000 sat/byte? If so, that´s very crazy.

If it's just a consolidation. I wait for the weekend and can usually get a 1 or 2 sat fee.

Even when network is congested, you can send a transaction with 1-2sat fee. Even if it takes 1-2days to get confirmed, but as it is just a consolidation, you have no hurry. Your btc will not vanish.

I think most people are afraid that an unconfirmed transaction is like a limbo, and your money is lost or whatever... But in fact the btc is in your wallet, so there is no problem.

Coming from BTC.com, a Bcash fan, I think they will always try to overestimate fees. usually I take a look at 3-4 fees estimators and reduce 25% of the smallest fee suggested.

If only more people would manually choose the fee that fits their needs, instead of letting their wallet choose a high fee aiming at fast confirmation Smiley The fee market would work much better that way.

Without getting into a long discussion here, the issue is a lot (most?) people are paranoid about confirmation times and don't 100% understand the concept of "is you pay a bit less it might take a while to confirm but unless you need to have the BTC there now it does not matter"

If I am in no rush but want it in the next few hours or so, I usually use 10% to 15% less then that number.
If I really don't care I use 25% less.

*I* understand how it works and don't think it's that difficult. You (LoyceV) are the same.
There are a lot of people who have been introduced to BTC and like the concept of it, but don't really understand the inner workings of it so they just go with what their wallet says.

It's up to us to educate them.

Someone should do a video.

It may be only for consolidation (having too many inputs will increase transaction cost).
It looks like someone who owns 918 Bitcoin is doing exactly what I described here: Fees are low, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs! Smiley

It's a smart thing to do: he's creating transactions just under 100 kB (the maximum). For a fast confirmation, he'd have to pay close to $1000 in fees. Now he pays $11.

You can see there are many inputs in this transaction.
It may be only for consolidation (having too many inputs will increase transaction cost). In this case as it is a transaction inside his own wallet he has no hurry and can wait even one two days for the confirmation (which will happen even at 1sat/byte)
