^^ I will go with Jack Catterall here, I think he still has that momentum at this division and looking forward to win fighting Matias as this could be a very good match. Catterall has been with the former champion in Josh Taylor (who including me believes that he beat that's why Josh had all the excuses in the book not to fight him).

But for sure Catterall wanted revenge, but Taylor is moving to 147 lbs already so he has to stop chasing him but focus on winning a belt. Usually though this division is not as hot as like the 147 lbs. But with big names already, I do agree that next year, we will more fights in this weight class.

And now we have the title eliminator fight for Matias IBF belt, it's between Jack Catterall vs Richardson Hitchins. We all know Catterall, he gave one hell of a fight against the former unified belt holder in Josh Taylor and there are fans who says that he won against Taylor. And then Josh never give him the chance for a rematch because he was injured and then he chooses to fight Teo Lopez wherein he lost his belt already.

And Catterall fought Jorge Linares last month or so and won that fight. Richardson Hitchins on the other hand, boast a record of 17-0 and he last defeated former champion Jose Zepeda although that is his biggest name in his resume.

So this is going to be a interesting fight for next year and winner obviously getting the scary Subriel Matias for his IBF belt.

Yes, majority of us we haven't heard his name before this fight, became a instant fans because of what he had shown. He was in trouble and yet he uses it to fuel his comeback and score a knockout.

And as you have said we haven't seen that style before, everything is very technical now or you will need to have power in both hands. And now that Ryan Garcia has entered the picture of this weight class, Matias being a champion makes it more interesting on how he will go or who is gong to be his next opponent.
Based on fight comparisons Subriel is the kind of fighter Ryan Garcia will avoid, he had a hard time against a pressure fighter who just moved forward and allowed themselves to get hit to give a hit, he just made a name for himself for easily beating a fighter who is considered a power puncher, he is now a threat to all the champions in his division, and if there's a tournament to unite all the belts, Subriel is the guy to beat.

Yes, I think for now, it's a huge risk, small reward for Ryan if ever he will call Subriel Matias for his belt. For us he is not well known of a fighter. Although Ryan Garcia proved that fighting unknown that is good in paper makes him look good as well, just like in his performance against Oscar Duarte.

Let's just wait it's only a matter of time, before these popular names, Garcia, Romero, Lopez, Subriel is likely to overshadow them in the future.

Ryan said that he wants another champ in Rolly Romero, that will be good choice in my opinion and the chance of Ryan Garcia to win is higher. As compare if he will fight the power punching Matias, this is going to be dangerous for him.

I do agree, Prograis, Romero and Lopez will be a good matchup for him. His style is definitely makes the fights very difficult for this fighter. But let's see if they are willing to fight a pressure fighter like Matias.

I admire Matias and I became an instant fan he is a pressure fighter he knows his opponent, Ergashev will move a lot because of his good lateral movements but he gambles by moving forward and preparing to get hit so he can get a hit, Ergashev may be surprised how Matias stood his best punches, between the two Ergashev is the power puncher, based on the statement of a fighter whom they both beat.
I don't think Ergashev's excuse of having a leg cramp was true, he just couldn't take Matias's punches it was very obvious in his reaction whenever he was hit by Matias's punches.
Romero and Lopez will have a hard time, fighting Matias, his style is very different and hard to deal with.

^^ It could be the reason that he seems to be just standing there and not moving around even if Matias hit him. Nevertheless, we could give credit to Matias here as he was also in trouble early but was able to withstand Ergashev, bounce back and then return the favor.

Yes, leg cramps is one of the most dangerous pain or episode when you are a boxing because your legs is also one of your weapons. You obviously need it to bounce back around, not saying that you should be in the bicycle, but at least a good footwork to avoid the power punches of your opponent.

Yes, he is still with a perfect record and he shows in this fight that he can take punishment too and has a good chin. It was test for his early as Ergashev is coming strong with power. But he wasn't able to sustain that kind of pace and maybe when he realized that his power doesn't have any effect on Matias, he started to doubt himself as the round goes and so he quit.

I do agree, Prograis, Romero and Lopez will be a good matchup for him. His style is definitely makes the fights very difficult for this fighter. But let's see if they are willing to fight a pressure fighter like Matias.
Ergashev has solid punches but unfortunately for him, Matias can take those punches and he has a good defense, he alluded to and blocked those hard punches while Ergashev was having a hard time with his defense, and Matias kept pressuring him, Matias proved to be a better fighter between the two this is his biggest opponent so far with a very good record and he made it so easy.
With the way he fights, he can take other popular champions in his division like Romero and Lopez, and can beat these guys.
Ergashev has a explanation though, he said that he can't move his legs in the last 2 rounds. Not sure what is that all about, it could be that he was hit by the power of Matias or we all know that leg cramps in boxing is a sign that the fighter is not rehydrate or at least someone messed it up, like a massage or something that's why he was affected by it. I remember Manny Pacquiao has the same reasons, forget about who's opponent it was, it could be in his last fight against Ugas.

Nevertheless, we can't deny Matias here, the guy has power and solid chin and now a champion that others in the 140 lbs shouldn't take lightly as he seems to be not well known amongst the latest champion that we have right now.

Subriel Mathias retains his title by making Ergashev quit, he started slow but eventually, picked up the pace and systematically broke down Ergashev, Subriel fought a great fight he just ate up Ergashev's punches and poured his own punches, intelligent fight by Subriel against a guy who is considered very dangerous, he has hurdle the best obstacle of his fight by beating  Ergashev it looks like we have Romero, Lopez and other champions will have a hard time against Subriel.
He is now 24-0-24, this is an awesome record, he is now under the radar of champions like Haney, Romero, and Lopez.

It's a surprising turn of events, Ergashev is doing great and I thought Ergashev was going to knock out Matias in the first round and will dictate the tempo of he fight but what happens is Matias took over after round 2 sensing that Ergashev couldn't hurt him.
You may be a hard puncher but if you cannot take a punch you will be in trouble, Matias can take Ergashev's punches but unfortunately, Ergashev couldn't take Matias's punches.

Subriel proves himself a more systematic fighter, breaking down Ergashev until he can't take it anymore, with this win Matias has proven that he can be a nig name in a division where there are big names ruling from other organizations

Good observation, he was able to take the best punches of Ergashev, but after a couple of rounds, he figure him out and that he can take his power. And so he takes over, systematically breaking Ergashev in every round. Although Subriel is Puerto Rican, he trains in Mexico and probably adopted that style as well that's why he is very tough.

I like him to go with the champions in this division, he has the belt so now sure who among the current bred are willing to face a tough champion like him. Maybe Teo will be open for a unification, but not sure though, maybe the risk is too high for them and could demand more money just to avoid for Subriel.

Here is the official weigh-in for both fighters, both fighters are confident and very eager to face each other, so much is at stake for both fighters not only the title, but the 0 on their record I think both fighters are each other and would be the toughest opponent.
I expect nothing less than a knockout here both fighters have impressive knockout records, especially Matias, whoever wins this match I am sure will make a good impression in the boxing community and will be considered as a promising boxer to fight for more titles in the future.
I will not change my pick I still go for Ergashev here I still he has a better skill between the two.

Someone's 0 is going to be replace by that 1 L in records, so for sure they want to protect it as all cost. But the odds says that Matias is the clear favorite as he is the defending champion. But for us fans, if two undefeated fighters faces each other, for sure there will be a lot of action and knockdown or knockout.

So let's see who's career are going to move after this fight. 140 lbs seems to weak though, no more unified champion. But we still have some names to boot like the lineal champion in Teo Lopez or maybe the winner between Prograis vs Haney.

This two fighter and their fans was long waited for this match,So this will be the biggest gift for the fans of Subriel and Ergashev. The Ergashev had more fans comared to the Subriel Matias. We need to wait till November 4 for this match, but the fact was the match days was counted by the fans daily till the November 4.S Ergashev had the more chance of winning in the November 4 match.Because many people predict of the win by the Knock out in the match. The draw for this match was in the huge chance but the fan of Ergashev will look for the knock out match expected to the gambler to bet for the odd on the good win at the final result.

I agree, this is a make or break fight for either fighter, Matias is the odd man out at the 140 lbs division, what I mean is that he is the only champion not recognized or unknown to some boxing fans as he is the IBF champion.

We have Prograis - WBC, Teo Lopez - WBO, Rolly Romero - WBA.

So anyone who's going to win can either face those champions for unification and cemented their names in this weight class.

Gonna be a great weekend for us and hopefully we can find free streams for the scheduled fights,  Grin

And being under another great fight in Benavidez vs Andrade, the exposure will really bring them closer to boxing fans.

It's a smart move by the promoters. These fighters aren't very popular, so they might have some difficulty marketing the fight. However, since it's now the undercard of a big event, it's almost guaranteed that this will be the final date, and the promoters won't have to worry about whether people will buy the PPV or attend the venue. In the same division as Matias, there are other champions who are more popular; they could easily set their fight as the main event. This one just doesn't seem like a go-to choice.
Yes this must be the trials of promoters if this fight go for main event cause we are all know that both fighters are not yet popular so there's a chance that they will feel too hard to sell the tickets as we all know that people nowadays must prefer to watch on thier phone or in thier TV once the fighter didn't popular yet. Unlike to those popular one people will make a way to watch the life event cause it's a pleasure to watch the fight of our idols.

Love to see when they want to get at it during the weigh in,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7D157qKFGr0

Probably one of the most underrated fight for this year, but for sure since both are knockout artist this could be also a explosive fight.

Good thing is that they make the weight, no issues whatsoever, so this is also good to go.

Ergashev, a big underdog 3:1 but he could really test Matias here.

I'm not going to miss this one as much as I don't want to miss the Benavidez - Andrade match, I hope it will not become another Stevenson - Delos Santos match because both fighters have good records they will avoid each other, I don't want to see that kind of fight ever again.

I hope they lived up to their record honestly this is the first fight I will see Matias and Ergashev fight and I expect an all-out fight because they both want to protect the 0 in their records.
OP should change the title, members might think that this fight is already over because of the wrong date on the title.

^^ Yes it's a good move indeed. Of course they wanted to be the main card as this is a title fight. But if there are no fans that are going to watch in PPV or even in live gates, then they won't make any money for their promoter and even if one of them declared to be a champion, we are still not going to be familiar with them.

But if they will go like in the undercard in the Andrade against Benavidez they are going to be benefit more and if they produce a exciting fight, for sure those who watch them live and in the PPV will remember their names. And then one day they can hold themselves and have their own card them. So it's a win-win situation for them and for their promoters in putting them in the undercard first.

I think it's good though, at least they will have the exposure as a undercard or co-main event. Fans will surely see how this this fighters are made are. I mean we really don't know about them to be honest, but from the looks of it, they could be the potential star of boxing.

I understand why Matias is the favorite; being the champion, he should gain respect from sportsbooks. But can his 100% win rate continue by defeating the challenger?

Based on my comparison of their style Ergashev has the edge, for me, he is fast with good ring movement but it's still 50/50 his being a champion is not a guarantee that Matias has the edge he could be lucky, and beat Ergashev it depends on who can hit first, both fighters looks even on paper Matias is good because of his 100% knock out rate but it will always go down on who he beat.
It's a very interesting match-up whenever two fighters with good records face in the ring I just hope they will live up to our expectations.

That's your take, buddy, and you should totally stick with it. Honestly, nobody really knows who's gonna come out on top in this fight. Those bookies? They're just throwing odds out there based on what most folks are thinking. And right now, most folks seem to think Matias is the one to bet on. I mean, the guy's got a solid track record, plus he's the current champ in this division.

You're on point when you say it might all come down to who lands the first punch, especially with their knack for knocking people out. One solid hit could seriously mess up the other fighter and spell the end via knockout. So, let's just sit back and see how this showdown unfolds.

So I guess I will have to wait first for the official odds and see who the bookmakers are going to favor here. Not that I don't trust those boxing fans here, it's that I wanted to weigh everything first before making my vote.

Maybe this would give you an idea about the betting odds.
From this website, (https://smarkets.com/event/43485573/sport/boxing/international-matchups/2023/11/04/03-00/subriel-matias-vs-shohjahon-ergashev), here's the betting odds

Subriel Matias 1.29
Shohjahon Ergashev 3.00

As you can see, Matias is the heavy favorite. So, if posters here think that Ergashev would win, at least the majority of them should consider betting on Ergashev with odds that are very tempting. I understand why Matias is the favorite; being the champion, he should gain respect from sportsbooks. But can his 100% win rate continue by defeating the challenger?

I was kinda surprised by the poll results. It looks like more folks around here are rooting for Ergashev over Matias. It goes to show that opinions really count in games like this because when you see a bunch of people supporting the challenger, it hints that the challenger might actually have a shot at winning. And I'm saying 'upset,' not because Ergashev is the challenger (in case he wins), but because of those betting odds that heavily favor Matias.

Might be but if you look at the poll, it was just 3 members who have voted: so it's 2:1 for the Ergashev.

The real problem here is that no one really knows this fighter so it's hard to bet unless we can go back and watch their previous fights in Youtube (if available), and see who is the bigger fighter.

So I guess I will have to wait first for the official odds and see who the bookmakers are going to favor here. Not that I don't trust those boxing fans here, it's that I wanted to weigh everything first before making my vote.

So very hard to say if they can survived or will be just a one hit champion because of the other great boxers that is in this weight class.

That's true, the other champions would likely challenge the winner of this fight. Currently, Matias is the champion, but I haven't heard from his camp regarding whether he'd like to challenge his fellow champions. There doesn't seem to be much hype in this weight class, I guess.

I'll watch this fight since I'm not very familiar with the champion and his opponent, but the records show that both are very dangerous fighters. Maybe a fighter can easily become popular if they love to create drama and controversies, like what Teo is doing. Well, he had his first surge in popularity when he defeated Loma, but after that, if my memory serves me right, he lost to George Kambosos Jr., and he didn't even accept the defeat.

I would like to know if there's one among them who will become an undisputed champion. With what has happened in other divisions, we get the feeling of watching a unification battle, especially an undisputed fight.

Why not, the Junior Welterweight is one division loaded with thrash talkers champions, Romero, Prograis, and Teofimo should fight each other to unite the division, it will generate a lot of interest if these three including the winner of Subriel Matias vs. S. Ergashev match all of them deserves to be champion and unification on all these champions will be their legacy fight, but of course their respective promoters should have a good talk for these fighters to agree for a unification matches.
I'm sure all of these champions will agree.
Ryan Garcia is also interested in this division, so it's going to be interesting to watch for the boxing aficionados.

Right, the last unified champion here is Josh Taylor, and he beat Prograis and Ramirez if I'm not mistaken. But then have to vacate some belt and then defend it against Jack Catterall who I believed he lost that fight but was awarded as a winner. But that is the first sign that Josh could have been slipping. And then he defended his belt against Teo Lopez in which he was really exposed and he said after wards that he will be going up in weight as he can't no longer make the 140 lbs limit. And then there is Haney as well moving up and then Ryan Garcia. So this is a tough division for this two boxers and the winner will have to go and battle out the rest of the champions. So very hard to say if they can survived or will be just a one hit champion because of the other great boxers that is in this weight class.

Records comparison;

Subriel Matias 19 wins all in KO (https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/749669)
Shohjahon Ergashev 23 wins, 20 coming from KO (https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/742016)

Both fighters have impressive records but not impressive resumes, there's no name on either fighter's resume that we consider a tough name, and it seems they are both fighting to have each other on their resumes.
It's going to be an interesting fight because not only is it a title fight but more so on their knockout percentage, it's going to be on who gets the best punch land and who has a better defense and strong chin.

This is gonna be a real slugfest, with both fighters packing some serious KO power. I'm expecting this to be hella entertaining, and we'll see if Ergashev, as the challenger with more ring time, can outwit the champ. It's gonna be lit!

I am more impressed with Ergashev than Matias he is a southpaw who knows how to move out and move in and with a good combination so he is my favorite here but still an even match because both fighters posses power in both hands.

The champion has a 100% KO rate based on their record. If we haven't seen their fights yet, that 100% seems lit. But, you know, we gotta consider our own vibes, and we always size up the opponent's game. Records alone ain't the move when it comes to predicting the winning fighter.

Records comparison;

Whoever wins in this match-up will become the next most promising boxer, both fighters are tough, with good records I'm not looking at the record because you can come out with 20 wins, and with all of it coming from knock out if all you fought are patsies, based on what I saw on their highlights Ergashev is a better fighter quick with good lateral movement and can knock out his opponent with one punch, reminds me of Beterbiev this is a good match up.
I expect an early knockout, as both fighters possess an explosive punch, I favor Ergashev to win by knockout and steal the crown from Matias.

If you bet money on Ergashev, you will get good odds, as he is a heavy underdog, which is expected as he is the challenger here.

From this website, (https://smarkets.com/event/43485573/sport/boxing/international-matchups/2023/11/04/03-00/subriel-matias-vs-shohjahon-ergashev), here's the betting odds

Subriel Matias 1.29
Shohjahon Ergashev 3.00

It's a good challenge for Matias, as he is currently the champion. If he doesn't deserve to be the champion, then Ergashev will replace him. This division has four champions, which makes it very exciting to follow. Personally, I would like to know if there's one among them who will become an undisputed champion. With what has happened in other divisions, we get the feeling of watching a unification battle, especially an undisputed fight.

So, just follow your instincts. Champions are not meant to stay forever, and as long as the competition is fierce, there will always be others who can replace them, as it's the battle of the best.

I can't determine the ranking of the champions, but among the four, I think Matias is the least popular. Anyway, it's still a great fight since it's a championship fight. Hopefully, next time, we will see a unification fight.

I have seen all the other Jr. welterweight champion fights but not Subriel Matias I have to check Youtube to check his highlights and how he fought, he is a decent fighter with good power but not really sleek movers like the three other champions he has not fought fighters that are popular compared to what these three other champions have fought.
A fighter with all his fights coming from knockouts deserves respect but this Shohjahon Ergashev is something else I like his movement I also checked his highlights and he has shown more power with his punches he can knock opponents with one punch.

This is going to be a very good fight It is always good to see two undefeated fighters fighting to retain their 0 and their reputation.

I guess there is pride between the two, they are both undefeated and with the belt on the line, it's good to see who will retain his 0 and won the belt and who will get his first lost here.

And just like the rest, no offense to these two boxers, but they are unknown to even some of the boxing fans here. But with the fight on the horizon, maybe some of us here will do their homework and see who is the tougher of the two and predicts who is the champion.

But the fight that we are talking at 140 lbs is Regis Prograis vs Devin Haney.

I'm not so familiar with the boxer, but Jr. Welterweight or Super Lightweight is a division where we have other champions with popular names.

WBC - Regis Prograis
WBA - Rolando Romero
WBO - Teofimo Lopez

I agree, since Josh Taylor vacated all the belts here and then lost it to Teo Lopez, it open ups this division. But I understand that the names are not familiar to us because it's from a lesser governing body in boxing which is the IBF. Nevertheless it's a good opportunity for this two to be in the limelight and became a champion, someone has to start from something and hopefully whoever wins this fight will have to cross and unify the belts with other champions so that we can see how good this two are, pitting against the like of Teo Lopez, which upset Josh Taylor and started to get back his name again after his 135 lbs conquest. So Jr. Welterweight is going to be lively, also with Regis Prograis fighting the 135 lbs unified champion in Devin Haney.
