What would you archieve by not voting?
In a democracy voting is the greatest weapon/power a citizien has.

Also i dont understand people crying about their government because that is exactly what the majority voted in.
Democracy doesnt mean everything is good from the start without anyone doing anything - democracy means that you as a citizien have the resposibility and power to make it good.

Not if you have superdelegates in the Democratic party, and back room guys doing everything they can to not have Trump be the Republican candidate....

I am not voting because in my opinion democracy is just smoke sold to naive ppl to they think their vote mean something. Before ppl invent some sort of direct democracy where you could have real influence i will abstain.

I hope you will someday realize that yourself can be that person.
Dont wait for someone else. Get politically active, advertise your idea of more direct democracy to friends and family. Create a party or bring that idea to your representative.

We have that in switzerland - just need to convince the majority of people in your country.

What would you archieve by not voting?

Removing legitimacy/mandate.

Depending on the voting law i think that would only be a silent accepting of the majority vote.

Or really nobody goes voting - but if you can archieve that you would have enough power to build a "real" government.

As per title of thread.

I'm a UK citizen but the problems the same in British politics (as in the US).

Are we, by voting, adding weight to a system that is letting us down badly ?

Would it be better to abstain ?

Or is this as good as its gonna get - so we'd be better throwing our hats into the ring ?

There are ways around it.  For example, I have explained to many of my friends of differing political persuasions that a candidate with actual practical experience such as in business or government administration, is far, far better than a legislator.

In practice, translate into "a governor is better than a senator."

Apparently this isn't obvious to a lot of people.  Apparently, they want to vote by way of looking and candidates and saying "I like so and so...".   And they mean just that, that they see a face and a body and hear the mouth moving and they "like him (or her)."
