Anonymous message is a thing I hope WhatsApp can remove and it coming here will alter so many things.
Anonymous message can be use to pass a hateful message In the pretence of anonymity.
And why should anyone be scared to show their real self.

If I receive an anonymous message I won't know who sent it and that will have an effect on my response. I want to know who I am talking to and for what reason. Because of that, I don't like your 1st proposal.

Allowing someone to help you with a message, like creating a complex thread, is not bad. However, you can get this kind of help even without such an option. If someone is interested in helping you, he/she can can write the thread and send you the the entire code over PM, mail, messaging service etc.

What it one of the authors plagiarizes content, spams, cheats. or does something else morally wrong? Admins will have to research to find out who did what and at what point to determine who was the culprit. It creates more headaches then a positive improvement.

These are only ideas for debating on them. (I dont have any idea about how forum codes works.)

1- No author (anonymous) threads/messages

Many users have alt accounts for privacy (i know its legal), if we have an option like "send this message anonymously", may it helps people for their privacy. (negative: it may helps scammers but who cares. they are scamming with new accounts all time.) (i know it's not %100 anonymous)

not only that. your recommendation would also encourage unsolicited messages(sending an unsolicited message is against the forum rules) from unknown members and they won't be punished for it.

2- Multi author threads/messages:

Some of complex messages is hard for working on it. İf we can give permission to someone for write on it, it will be easy. (like google spreadsheets options)

For example: Owner started a thread and write his documents. And than give permission to Y and Z, and they helps to update message.

There can be a notice under the message: This messages is writed by X+Y+Z.

this could be considered but not prioritized or even ignored since the original author could simply just put the names of his team where the recipient of the message can also contact them if the original author is not responding.

If there are Red warning with PMs from newbies, I don't think we need to see anonymous PMs. Don't contact someone else if you want to stay anonymously.

It will create many drama when accounts banned because of plagiarism. Perm-banned 'victims' will open ban appeals and say "Oh, it's not a plagiarism because we work in a group, with a multi-author threads/ messages".

And moderators have to spend time to investigate who initially created documents, who edited lastly and who stole contents before spreading out. It is not a good idea. We have limited staff resources on the forum and they have to be free of unnecessary stuffs. As you pointed out, there are other platforms to do it, just stick with those platforms.

I would not like to see this returning again.
Scammers can abuse this option, and if anyone want to exchange PM in private they can do it outside bitcointalk forum.

1- No author (anonymous) threads/messages
This was possible back in the days, see for example this Guest post (some of them used a username).
I guess this was removed for a reason, which makes it unlikely to come back.

2- Multi author threads/messages:
One way to do this would be using a shared account, but if one of the users gets it banned, all others would be at risk of ban evasion.

Limited in number. Limitless in potential.

This will be abused by scammers and spammers, worst links with malwares.

Co authors for one thread is not allowed, but there are some other ways to get help from other users, for example if you are working on a complex topic, you can send a private message to a more experienced user to put you through on areas you do not understand clearly. Secondly If you post a thread and there are flaws or mistakes in the thread, other users would also correct the flaws in the thread, so I don't think there is need for co authorship.

In my opinion there is no need for anonymous messages, posts or threads. I honestly would not read them anyway. This is a forum and it's a common rule that on a forum you have a nickname. In addition to that a nickname helps other users to verify if the post is written by a well-known trusted user. Why do we have merits, the trust-system and post counts if we throw them all over board and start posting anonymously now?

To sum it up, I see absolutely no advantage in writing a message, post or thread anonymously. Moreover, if you get an anonymous message how should you respond to that message?

I can't find a postive use for this, It will only lead to further threats, spam and unsolicited messages, and It could even cause further problems and manipulation in the current trust system.

EDIT:
Also report it to the admin before deleting  Wink

This would be pointless since it would be anonymous, except it is pseudo anonymous(Mods can see the sender)

I would delete any anonymous message without reading it.

If a person doesn't know enough to write a complete message, then he shouldn't write it, unless it is a question. If it needs input from multiple members, then it should be on s web page, and not in a message imho.

I do not appreciate your suggestions, because it does not have much effect. You can recommend it to theymos, but I believe it will not be accepted. There are other proposed features, many are more effective and it will take precedence, but it is not even accepted. This forum allows the active of alt accounts, so it does not matter if it continues. As long as the alt accounts are not abused for the purpose of making money.
In addition, personal messages should not be edited or updated under any circumstances  Roll Eyes
