The idea sounds nice in theory but difficult to implement in practice [...] ugh the internet. There is a difficulty for me and many members of the forum to reach that town because we live in far away and different countries, so the gathering will be somewhat difficult, I think.

I thought also about that... That's why I suggested with 5 years before. So users will have plenty of time to decide if they're willing to come, to have plenty of time to save some money, to talk with other friends if they also would like to come and so on.

Arnhem A really beautiful city, but I personally did not know it and I got to know it through the internet.

I visited Holland only once. I went to Rotterdam and Hague. Beautiful cities! I believe Arnhem is also a very nice place. Even if that gathering won't take place, I'd still like to visit this place.

But the idea is really beautiful and well worth working on.

Thank you!

Interesting Idea, You can count me in [hopefully]!

That will make 5 of us! Smiley

I have been here since March 2017 and have not made any connections with anyone,
"its not you, its me" sort of thing. I kind of scratched the surface a bit with one of my first
posts back in March 2017 before realising that the predominant feeling throughout the
forum was to remain private.

Yes, privacy is a top concern for many forum users, including myself. However, I managed to build good relations with many forum users and with a part of them I am happy to say that I have a very friendly relation. I met (online) many nice forum users and I discovered a great pleasure in talking to them, working together on various projects and exchange ideas.
You are right despite the fact that privacy is of great concern to most forum and crypto user, one can not dispute the fact that there are some incredible forum members who have impacted us greatly in this forum and one can not under estimate the gains of meet up and chat to our privacy protection.

Prior to COVID-19 I visited The Netherlands almost every year over a 10 year period
and im guessing/hoping by 2024 this pandemic will be only a memory.

I have become curious lately about how many members have actually met up especially
those who have been on the forum since its inception and those "legends", OgNasty,
vapourminer, malevolent, cAPSLOCK, marcus_of_augustus, Vod oh and theymos :-)
to name a few, have they met in person?

Following on from another thread about what you are planning for your BTC

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1817086.0;topicseen

I have been considering recently about the type of person that
buys into Cryptocurrencies particularly BTC.

It would be interesting to know a bit [not too much!!] about people who are "into this"

Who bought in at the start?
Are you an employee, Employer ?
What age group do you belong in?

For me, I just bought in in January!
Im an employee and I was born in the 70's !

@GazetaBTC If you bring your gun, I'll bring a can of spam, and we can do some spam hunting together IRL Grin

Loool that would be awesome! To meet at the 15th anniversary and bust some spam Smiley

I might have my own personal #JeSuisLoyceV T-shirt printed for the occasion Cheesy

What about this idea? We can all wear #JeSuisLoyceV T-shirts! Therefore we'll all be LoyceV at the meet-up. Of course, we could all wear also #IAmSatoshi T-shirts, but we would look more yolo with LoyceV ones Smiley

@LoyceV, being present doesn't oblige you to share your username, rite? Wink
Let me put it this way: if anyone claims to be me, ask for a signed message as explained here. You won't get it, so get the tar and feathers ready Cheesy

 Grin Cheesy

I like my privacy as well, so the only question I'll ask you, is which beer you'd like. (rather do the meetup in a Belgian beer bar, on second thought Wink )

edit: I might have my own personal #JeSuisLoyceV T-shirt printed for the occasion Cheesy

I'm not much of a meetup person, I guess, but I can think of some people of this community with whom it would be my pleasure to have a few beers.

No way, not even with dark sunglasses, full face mask and wearable voice changer device.

Your presence is now a must, young padawan! Smiley Merits == presence hehe. Maybe Foxpup comes too and we'll make a huge party orgy there, so big, that Arnhem will remember for centuries!

I noticed your topic because of this topic: Does anyone want a "I'm in the area lets hangout board".

Uh-huh, I missed that topic. Hehe, it seems Lucius has a great memory!

Just received 4 merits from LoyceV for this proposal I made 11 months ago Smiley Thanks LoyceV! If the merits mean also you'll show up it would great hehe! So we'll be 5 guys at the meeting. Of course, there is enough time until then. If in 1 year we have 5 participants, maybe until then we'll have 25.

However, those merits also reminded me about this topic, which needed a bump after so much time Smiley So thanks for this reminder as well Smiley

Hehe, then we are 3 so far Smiley It's a good start. Let's hope that in time the number will increase. There are still 4 years and 10 months left.

I'm glad that two people think it is a good initiative Smiley

 Count me in.

Good initiative, and I think it would be really nice to celebrate 15 years of the forum this way. I recently found out about Arnhem and their friendly attitude towards Bitcoin, and it seems to me that the location is pretty well chosen. I'm personally interested in something like this, but 5 years is a really long period, it's hard to say what will happen by then.

I agree that this board is very poorly visited, but I'm not sure which place would be more appropriate for a thread like this.

All good, so far we are two already Smiley If nobody else is interested, we'll do it together Smiley

It seems this section of the forum isn't visited by many members. I posted this topic 1 week ago, but it has only 16 views so far, therefore I'm thinking that Meetups section may not be the best choice for posting this. But let's see what happens...we still have 4 years and 11 months ahead Smiley

About the weather, I don't think there are reasons to worry. Weather is soft in Holland during the entire year - not too hot during summer and not too cold during winter. Today, for example, temperature in Arnhem is 9 Celsius degrees.

Something crossed my mind recently, especially after reading Welsh's topic regarding collectible coins; I'll explain below.

Would anyone be interested into celebrating the 15th anniversary of the forum by a real world meeting, held in Arnhem?

I don't know how many forum users know each other in real life, but I think only a few. Besides, I also think that many would like to know each other, or to get to know the elders here. This could be a nice chance!

Why I suggested Arnhem? Because this city proclaimed that it is the world’s most Bitcoin-friendly city and it wants "to demonstrate there is an alternative for the current financial system by creating a bitcoin economy".
Other reasons for thinking about Arnhem: the city is beautiful and there are many merchants accepting Bitcoin. Furthermore, this city already held an important Bitcoin event in the past: The Future of Bitcoin conference, in 2017.

Now what's the connection with Welsh's topic: he mentioned at some point that he started to think about the respective coins in February 2019, but, apparently, it was already late, in order to have them on November 22nd. So I imagined that if 9 months weren't enough for obtaining the coins, most likely, for organizing such event it would take much more time. Even years.

That's why I wrote this suggestion now, almost 5 years prior the date of November 22nd, 2024.

What do you think about this? would anyone be interested in a meetup of this kind?
