I agree with the idea of making the reporting easy knowing that people tend to be lazy.

I want to suggest that, it's also good to encourage and let people know that when easier reporting is implemented, it will be visible to everyone or be announced.
Yes and yes, though I'm sure members who make it a habit of reporting posts would find out soon enough.  And Theymos does tend to announce even small changes to the forum, so I'm fairly certain he'd make it known if he decided to make changes to the reporting system.
Right now, what we need to do is keep on reporting the spam, and hopefully, the possible upgrade on the report system be implemented.

If this happens, I think it would be more fun to report and maybe put things in the appropriate data set. So when a person is banned, the mods or members would be able to see the collected data on the reports and people can be tagged in it or maybe something more accessible for members to locate that specific banned member. It would be easier compared to finding it manually, not that it's wrong, it would just make your time more efficient. Ctrl + F would be used frequently for sure. lol

No worries. I'll be able to rustle some ugly, overly complicated and frankly embarrassing code up on my own to achieve the same thing.

Here you go, maybe you can glean something useful: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/hack-one-click-mod-report-not-for-the-faint-of-heart-5103488

So, I've come up with a slightly different solution using a program called AutoHotKey, that I use for a number of other tasks.

Or that...  Grin

Unfortunately it's not quite shareable but I'll see if I can clean it up a bit and post it at least as an example for some crafty folks to adapt to their needs.
So, I've come up with a slightly different solution using a program called AutoHotKey, that I use for a number of other tasks.

Basically it will open the report page in a new window on my second monitor, fill in the relevant comment about the post being spam, send the report, close the report window, and then refocus on the original window so I can continue to scroll with the mouse wheel without having to click back. This all has the added advantage of me being able to read the next post while the script is reporting the previous one.

Thanks for the inspiration. This is going to make life much easier. Also sorry for going off topic @eternalgloom. Smiley

I have not problems with PC,  because chrome save it which was using mostly during Grin. But I feel problem with mobile. However your suggestion is good for reporter but it would be very bad for moderators. Just say, you want to report for move thread. Then you should mention which board is appropriate to move. If you want to report spam then you should write why you think this post is spam. Without proper references it would very difficult to moderate. I don't think theymos will implementat that option. It's better to write your opinion on comment box why you are reporting. If you write wrong then may be report will mark bad.

I don't think it would be bad for moderators, standardization should make it a bit easier actually.
Who knows what different people write in that 'enter comment' field, could sometimes be a real mess to untangle.

I actually mentioned that the report feature should present different preset options alongside the regular comment field.

I definitely stand by my assertion that this would be a good feature for both mods and reporters.
Just unsure about the cost/benefit of it. Don't know how difficult it as to implement such a feature...

I have no problems with the report, when I write the first letter of the word appears a list with the possibilities that I have ever reported!

But would be a nice feat. for all reporters !

Would be also helpful in the dropdown menu if we get " Report Account or Bot User " or something similar .

But having it as a forum feature would be much better than having reporters create their own contraptions.
Yes, especially for 'challenged' folks like me who would have no idea how to create such a thing.

Great ideas, OP.  I'm not sure how difficult it would be for Theymos to integrate these things into the forum software/code/whatever, but it sure would make it a hell of a lot easier for people to report stuff and might motivate more of them to do so.

  • Wrong board, move to $subforum (selectable in a dropdown list for example)
  • Plagiarism + Source field
  • Low quality thread/reply

Eventually I ended up creating a browser extension that does everything via one click - opens the report page, puts in "zero-value shitpost", submits.
Oh my god, why didn't I think of this? Gimme gimme gimme (please).

Unfortunately it's not quite shareable but I'll see if I can clean it up a bit and post it at least as an example for some crafty folks to adapt to their needs.

I started by keeping most commonly used comments in a text document so that I could copy-paste-paste-paste-paste (oh the irony) them quickly when needed.

An interesting suggestion.

As a seasoned reporter, it would make no difference to me. The comment box is pretty easy to autofill from the drop down list of previous comments that appears when I start typing. If I want to move to "Speculation" for example, I just type "spec" and then select the top suggestion. Similarly for plagiarism, I type "plag", select the top entry and change the source link. Check boxes would make no difference to my speed or accuracy of reports.

Having said that, you make a very valid point for junior members. I remember it being daunting when I first started reporting to know what kind of things to type in that box. Welsh's guide helped a lot, but I can see how some check boxes would be helpful for junior members.

Obviously, I'm not a mod so can't comment on that side of things, but I would image if people are all reporting the same thing in different ways*, a degree of standardization might make their lives easier.

*Example:

This post is plagiarized, please see the following link as proof: URL
Copy and pasted. Source link URL.
URL. This is the source, post has been plagiarized.
Plagiarized post from URL.
Copied from URL. Please ban user.
etc

I agree with the idea of making the reporting easy knowing that people tend to be lazy. It makes people more inclined to report knowing that it easy.

I want to suggest that, it's also good to encourage and let people know that when easier reporting is implemented, it will be visible to everyone or be announced. Maybe those drop down boxes would have the most common things that are reported, and for sure some data can be analyzed then form an essential collection of reporting.

Call it Standardization of Reports I think everyone would agree with that. As long as the moderators are up for it, it would make lives more comfortable for them in a way.

The report feature should really have some multiple preset options, in addition to the "enter comment:" field.
I've noticed that you often have to report content for the same reason.

For example, when I'm going through Bitcoin Discussion, I can usually find multiple threads for reporting where I just leave the same comment: 'Wrong board, move to Speculation board' (anything involving price speculation)

Wouldn't it be easier to have a couple of these options to choose from when you're reporting these posts?

Some examples:

  • Wrong board, move to $subforum (selectable in a dropdown list for example)
  • Plagiarism + Source field
  • Low quality thread/reply

These are just a couple of examples that popped in my head, I'm sure that there are a lot more possible preset options out there

I think that with these preset options, some people would be more inclined to report just because they can already see what kind of 'violations' there are.
It would take out some ambiguity of the whole reporting process and it also just makes it easier to report the same type of rule-breaking content.

Also, for moderators it might just become easier to go through reports, if the reports adhere to a little bit of standardization for the clear-cut cases.

Let me know what you think! Is it too much work for too little change? Or would this be something useful for people who are active reporters/moderators?
