I was surprised not getting the notification about replies to my posts. I could follow an entire topic and be notified about every single post in it. But I simply don't want to do it, it is quite annoying. For now, I'm checking my last posts and see if someone replied to me. But seeing all replies on one page will be much better and keep us involved in communication.

I think none because if there will be it surely spam our email like we all know topics are posted every minute here so just imagine that spam thing.

Thank you, maybe I wasn't clear enough. I meant instead of getting notifications when a new post is made in a topic I have notifications on, I want to get notifications when user XY - that might be you for example - posts something.

A bit off-topic, but didn't want to open a new thread.

Is it possible to set up notifications when a certain user posts something ?

Unless you're talking about if someone quoted your post then at least try this.

That's not the best solution, but you can use the advanced search page to see the latest posts where someone quoted you or said your name. Just do the following:

- Write your name into the "Search for" field;
- Select "most recent topics first" in the "search order" option;
- Check "Show results as messages" (optional).

I quite agree with this quote notification suggestion. Personally, I have been thinking of making a thread to draw the attention of the admin to it, guess Beerwizzard was more motivated than I am to do a thread.

Quote notification can be spammy, but yeah if you can also turn off quote notification it will be ok.
In some forums you can also use the @nickname notification.

I think these options (normaly turned off on options) are great.

I see some thread over 100 pages and I wonder what new could be said in such thread, yet you see new comment on the same thread although I understand that the forum is doing some cleansing .

This isn't a bad idea at all, and I kind of wish bitcointalk had more little features like the one suggested that would make it a little more interesting, user-friendly, whatever.

I agree that Politics and Society isn't the only section that's been overrun with garbage--I've had to put numerous sections on ignore because they've simply become places where shitposters who're in signature campaigns go to get paid, and they don't care about what they're writing or if it even makes sense.  That's why I've limited my posting to just a few sections like Meta where they haven't invaded yet.  Meta is getting pretty bad, but it's mostly in threads about merit.  There are still many threads where there aren't too many garbage posts.

Maybe Theymos will see this thread and consider it.  I'd actually like to be notified when one of my posts is quoted, as I tend to post a lot and I forget where and sometimes what I've posted.

Right now we are having tons of replies in threads that are repeating the same shit. Pushing people to have at least a small conversation wll be much better then nothing.

It's not guaranteed that those "shit posters" would be active in the discussion, they just want their posts counted, That's it. For you, for me, or for some people that aware, your idea is good enough. Even I'll say for sure Super agree with your idea.

The main problem is people itself (this is about self-awareness). So, let's start with our self, give 'em a good instance. We have a moderator and also report system, let 'em work. They will throw away posts that potentially invite tons of "shit poster". It's a process, so yes, we can't do it in a minute.

For some reason it seems like everyone is trying to find an ultomate method of moderating the forum that will solve all our problems in a minute. You won't be able to build a decent community this way.

Politics & Society is trash. People go there, look at a headline, and post a few sentences of their first gut reaction without reading any of the other replies.

It may refer to peoples that doing random post, jump from one thread to another thread and didn't even care when someone was quoting their statement (post). They don't want to discuss. They only want to post to meet requirements post of a signature campaign nor to increase their activity count.

People who aware will always hit "Show new replies to your posts." with or without a quote to our message, cause this is a forum, we would discuss with a lot of people isn't with one people only that quoted our messages.

If people will have a chance to recieve notification once their message was quoted it will make them more involved into the conversation and make the envioronment on this forum way better.

It could be a small notificaton somewhere in the top right / left of the page or at least the same e-mail stuff that we've got now, whatever. Anything will be pretty usefull.

This is a great suggestion. I'm always more engaged when (1) my posts get replied to, and (2) I remember to go back to a past post to look for responses. But the problem is there is no mechanism to give me this information up front!

I have to remember some post that i'm intrigued to get a reply to. Find the post I made (so I can find the thread again). Then I need sift through the pages after my post to see if anyone quoted more or replied, etc.

Adding these functions would immediately draw people into the thread for more than a flyby, which in turn will improve post and discussion quality. You should suggest to Theymos directly.

Hey there! I'm pretty sure that those things were already discussed but imho it is left without  the attention that it deserve.
I've just read the recent thread made by theymos and here is a small quote from it:
Politics & Society is trash. People go there, look at a headline, and post a few sentences of their first gut reaction without reading any of the other replies.
If you guys dodn't see the half of the forum works this way. The only Politics and Society section is not the main problem.
The other thing is that people always discuss how to moderate the forum but tbh despite the huge efforts of the community nothing is getting better (at least globaly).  I would advice you to think about how to involve users into the conversation.
For example while you are posting on the forum it might be hard to track all your posts for any feedback from the other users while you can set notifications only for threads that will completely spam your inbox with mostly useless notifications.
