"better ranked members" I think you mean higher ranked members shouldn't be given more points just because they are a higher rank this doesn't mean they know what is a useful post and what isn't and would mean they would only upvote what they agree with and that's something that the merit system tries to avoid by only allowing non sources to send merit if they have received merit themselves and merit sources are selected because they are good posters themselves.

The negative score is bad, is not a coincidence that many sites have removed it.
The merit is something that is not equal to the "like" and the demerit is not equal to the "dislike"
If you don't want read a post, skip it or ignore/report the user if the post is bad and if instead you find it useful and well done use the +Merit.
Above all, dislike is easily exploitable by people with many other accounts.

But in the end I agree with you sMerit system maybe needs a little adjustment (more merit sources or reduction by 20-30%,in my opinion, to rank up) now we are in a moment when montly sMerit circulation is ≤  sMerit generated.

The negative score would just need more moderation in need to avoid personal clashes, but I believe in time will bring more quality.

Here is the issue I have: If I am interested in the topic and I want to contribute I usually need to read around 5 to 7 pages of mostly shallow posts. It cant be just skipped in a minute because my post will be shallow, I will not post in line with the discussion.

Why could Reddit system be better here than on Reddit?

Because of the weight of the vote. As I suggested better-ranked members should have more power in voting and that should bring a better voting quality.

For example, it could be the voting system like Steemit, your vote is worth as much as you have merits. Or you can vote that day as much as you have merits. (both negative and positive)

If you think Reddit promotes good posts then I have news for you...not only could the upvoting be misused more than the merit system it sounds like the system you are suggesting would result in a popularity contest and upvoting of memes and images rather than actual good posts.

I will become a totally different forum.

Reddit rules work on reddit, which has different dynamic.

There are more and more people who are thinking that merit system doesn't work, the proof of that should be that posts about merits system are actually more popular than about Bitcoin itself. If we progress like this the forum could change its name to Merittalk.org  Grin

What I'm suggesting is to apply negative ratings for posts, to avoid meaningless posts and spam. Of course, it should be anonymous - Reddit style.

For example, a hero member can give 10 positive or negative ratings to one post, while Jr member could give only 1. It would be a much effective way to stop meaningless posting because merit system doesn't do that. There are still a lot of garbage porting on the forum because people are not punished for it and they are incentives to write lots of posts for signature campaigns.

Reddit style merit system would allow quality posters to advance faster and for shit posters to decline faster. It will bring more life to the merit system. And maybe even more important, it will enable people to reward quality posters for every good post, which is not possible for them now due to lack of smerits. How many times I wanted to give merit but I didn't have any. That poster deserved to be rewarded but was just unlucky, and that's not fair.
