Farewell, Leo. You will be missed!
For outside forums, you may just add Bitcointalk at the end of your desired search words. So it would help you to search relates words from the forum.
Adding just 'bitcointalk' could be dangerous. Yes, it will show you results from our bitcointalk.org forum, but you could also see links to phishing sites. I am not sure if bitcointalk.com is a phishing site or not, but it appears on the first page when searching for 'bitcoin bitcointalk'. If that site is not a phishing site, another one can pop up.

Adding bitcointalk.org or site:bitcointalk.org is safer.

Tags are not going to happen, at least not in this forum software, but maybe it's possible with some new forum software in year 2030 when people will own nothing (except Bitcoin) and be happy Smiley

Tags are not tools for archiving and accessing information, but rather for following up on news and staying up-to-date on an issue, which is different from the way forums are based.
The tag system gives a user friendly search feature to those who use social media but it is not useful for forums.
we may be idea similar to Patrol "for all", but again, the way the forum works is different from social media.

BTW:  i was thinking you are talking about tags like [CFNP] [FULL] not #bitcoin #BTT .... Grin Grin

Users tend to be very bad at categorizing posts so while in an ideal world everybody uses the correct tags for their topics, the reality is that everyone's going to use a bunch of irrelevant tags for topics that don't even match them, this will pollute the tags system in the same way general discussion is polluted with nonsense topics right now.

It can also be used by spammers to hijack a legitimate tag with a bunch of links.

For example, if one wants to check 'merit giveaway' threads, he could click/search on tags (merit, merit-giveaway, giveaway — could also add ability to sort through boards), imo it will be more convenient to find topics than using search option.
Why should we do it when this forum already has a search engine for you to help you find anything? tags are essentially keywords so you can do searches related to your problem, i think it should only be applied to broader search engines. Forum has been divided into many different sections for different purposes, moreover, the search engine also helps to find the matching keywords. On the contrary, using tags will lead to content confusion, as articles in different sections may use the same tag, making it more difficult to find articles in different sections.

Tag for what? To visible thread outside the forum? I mean on Google search or any other search machine? Tag just helps to find related search. For outside forums, you may just add Bitcointalk at the end of your desired search words. So it would help you to search relates words from the forum. For on forum, it's enough to use the forum search button. To be honest forum posts all words themselves are a kind of tag. It's been reflecting during the forum search. So I don't think it's necessary to add a tag button for the forum currently.

Just do a search for site:bitcointalk.org merit giveaway to see all relevant results. Click on tools/settings in your browser and adjust the date range. Change it to past year/month/week/day to see different results. The site:bitcointalk.org searches have always given the best results in my opinion.

You can also try to search through Ninjastic.space and customize the post title and post content according to your liking.

This could have been useful indeed, but only if there was no Google search (which I find enough for relevant results)
I know some people don't like it, but tags have always been useful for filtering content (whether on a forum, or even a blog or social network for that matter).

If there are members abusing this method to "spam" it could very well be moderated as "spam" or "abuse". Not really a problem, at least for users. For the moderators no idea

There is just one drawback from an administrative point of view. It overloads the server (I think) and can easily be used during a DDOS attack. The same reason why users' stats have been removed.

Forum has all of these features in different form actually.

See- if you search for "merit" on bitcointalk, yoh will get all the results in bitcointalk.
Now, again, if you enter in meta section and search for "merit", you will get all the relevant words in the " meta" section only.

Again, if you search in a specific thread only, for example in your this thread, you will get result from this thread only.

So, where's the need of adding tag? Would be a little convenient but I don't see a good reason to be honest.

Add ability to add tags when creating topic.

What do you think?
AFAIK, you can already achieve a similar result [to an extent] if you include those tags in your post, so I can't see this getting implemented anytime soon [unfortunately].

What title says really,

Add ability to add tags when creating topic.

For example, if one wants to check 'merit giveaway' threads, he could click/search on tags (merit, merit-giveaway, giveaway — could also add ability to sort through boards), imo it will be more convenient to find topics than using search option.
