What Potato Chips said.

But honestly though, just tell your "friend" to cut off all the hassle and simply hire a marketing team. If marketing is your problem, then sorry but it's likely that the project is bound for failure; assuming that your "friend's" ICO isn't useless or a scam to start with.

Potato chips pretty much lays it out for you: that's a standard, tried and tested route, it works, but only if done with the right managers. Of course, that's debatable but you generally want a good level of quality control, in that the content should be guided by a strategy and philosophy. Everything down from the project's leadership communication to the spokespeople and even the platforms you choose to advertise on. Spend some time on that. The philosophy and messaging should be clear.

There's also the influencer route a number of projects have tried. Works if the influencer's really plugged in... backfires if not.

There's lots of ways to promote it but what you can do mainly depends on your budget.

ofc I'm assuming that most stuff an investor looks for are polished first. I'm talking about the whitepaper, site, SNS, graphics etc.. (If you guys know you're not an expert on that fields, hire someone to do it for you)

a). First off is you can avail some ad space of some platforms which gets lots of traffic like here on bitcointalk, youtube etc..
b). Run some campaigns here like signature, social media, telegram, blog, reddit etc.. would be better to have a sign camp which pays in bitcoin to attract good posters
c). Have your ICO listed and reviewed on some ico ratings site or in someone else's blog/yt channel
d). Set up some conferences or attend some so you can make connections and make use of it.

So far that's all i can think, might add more later

Hmm and you said you've read some articles, pretty sure there's at least on or two good suggestions there, try to widen your sources.
