Problem solved, I was overloading the surge protector by running 2 850Watt psu from it.  Most surge protectors seemed to be rated for about 10amps so 2 psu was overloading it.  120V x 10amps= 1200Watts      850watts x 2= 1700Watts

You're asking something that nobody can answer for you.

Maybe there was a dip in the power supply and then a slight surge, it happens from time to time and may have been enough to trip the protector.

It's all working again now so just see what happens.

My surge protector turned off by itself this morning for no apparent reason. It was not raining or storming outside. I turned the surge protector back on and everything was running fine. I'm wondering whether this is a benign flub or if it's a precursor to something more serious. The surge protector is just a Radio Shack brand that I picked up for $20.  I got it plugged into a 50amp socket and I am powering two Corsair 850W psu off of it.
