Since the trend of the prices today is increasing, they are optimistic that it will be the same next year. That can depend on what happens on the next few days.

This is what I'm worried, with the current price I can not own so much bitcoin so I would expect it to fall in the next year.
That's the hope of all the bankers and wall street guys. the trash talk bitcoin just so it falls and they buy tons of it . at the current price it's very hard to know if it's going to stay that way . the price will either go up massivly or crash drastically.

Bitcoin will continue to grow in 2018 but another 17 folds return is quite hard imo.. For that BTC price should get to 300k$!!

Agree, I’d be delighted with a 2 or 3 x increase in 2018, we are talking BIG money then.

If bitcoin continues to be relatively stable throughout 2018, then I would be happy. Like $25K at the end of 2018 would be good, in my opinion. It would mean that btc will have established itself as a stable, reliable cryptocurrency and it's the altcoins' turn to replicate the 2017 performance of bitcoin and hopefully reach it.

Of course.  That's what happens near the top of every bubble - most investors convince themselves that it's just going to keep going higher, because they observe arbitrary trends and then try to use the past to predict the future.

Most people who believe this are amateur investors who are not used to the concept of a bubble.

It also means that they're likely to be terrified at a price fall, and would sell if the price dropped and stayed down consistently for over a couple of months.

Most bitcoin investors in the U.S. are expecting the cryptocurrency to perform even better next year than this year's seventeen-fold appreciation, according to a newly published survey. LendEDU, a digital student loan startup which has now published four such surveys asking various questions about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, polled 565 Americans between Nov. 9 and Nov. 13, 2017..

It found that roughly 77% of participants believe bitcoin's price will grow more quickly in 2018 than it did this year. While bitcoin started 2017 hovering just below $1,000, it was trading at more than $16,500 with highs above $17,000 as of Dec. 14, according to CoinDesk's Bitcoin Price Index (BPI)..

Perhaps as a result, nearly 75% of investors plan to increase the size of their investments in bitcoin next year, with less than 10% not planning to, the LendEDU survey found. On the other hand, about 31.5% of respondents plan to sell at least some of their bitcoin in 2018, with 40% stating they would not and 28.5% being unsure..

LendEDU stated that regulation could help stabilize bitcoin’s price, but excessive regulation could conflict with its core principles and alienate some of its supporters. In November, the company noted that about a third of respondents to a survey about bitcoin

I do not think I should sell my bitcoin in 2018 and I will continue to buy bitcoin if I have the money. And will keep it for the next few years before deciding to sell it.

There is a great optimism surrounding Bitcoin right now most especially with the entrants to the wild and sometimes insane  rollercoaster ride of Bitcoin but the same enthusiasm is also shared even by those who have been here for a long time. Nobody knows what will surely transpire in next year so we have to wait of the things that can be. Based on my own analysis, 2018 can be an exemplary year for Bitcoin but all the things can be depending on some factors we the people do not have any control of. We don't know when will many governments will clump down on Bitcoin just like what China did. However, we are hoping that Russia will eventually open its doors to Bitcoin and at the same time India will finally pursue regulations of Bitcoin to recognize it in the whole country either as currency or asset.

There is no problem when the general sentiment is very positive for Bitcoin and in fact this can be necessary for it to reach the mainstream consciousness of the people but this same enthusiasm must not mean that people should be blindly invest their hard-earned money with Bitcoin without first considering all the inherent risks contained. People should be educated on what they are getting into so that they can react rationally when Bitcoin can experience some dips (something that is traditional with Bitcoin from time to time).

Let 2018 bring us more good tidings and profits!  Let 2018 be the Bitcoin Year!
