Would this be a smooth upgrade (= same DB and so on is reused), or would I have to download the whole blockchain once again and start from fresh? Well.

It's a seamless transition. You won't have to re-download the blockchain.

Hello guys,

Thinking of switching from Bitcoin Core 0.16.2 to Bitcoin Knots to have the additional networking related features at hand.
Would this be a smooth upgrade (= same DB and so on is reused), or would I have to download the whole blockchain once again and start from fresh?

Br,

Im not sure but in theory I think there shouldn't be any problems in copy-pasting your blocks folder into your Bitcoin Knots' data folder.

However I believe it's always a mistake trying to re-use your chainstate folder even if the client you are moving from are a similar fork.

So close Bitcoin Core, delete the chainstate folder and then copy your blocks folder into the Bitcoin Knots data folder, open Bitcoin Knots and a new chainstate folder will be created from scratch, it's worth it, it's not too big, just 2.7 GB right now.
