I too somehow doubt that it can be a million. The country is still pretty much war-ravaged, and the liberated areas are/were sparsely-populated.

But, the article does not say that it's a million of people, who fled the country. There are lots who were displaced internally, leaving for the peaceful coastal part of Syria. It looks like the numbers include them as well.

As for the "refugees" in Europe - only about 25% of them are refugees proper from Syria. The rest are either economical refugees from other countries posing as Syrians with fake documents or are infiltrated militants from ISIS.

guess who's back
Russian air strikes are really targeting ISIS and they are really doing good job , at least they are not like the other air strikes
ISIS now are weaker in Syria than they were before Russia start the strike , at least they haven't take any other city during Russian strikes
and yes there are many refugees in the near countries like Lebanon who came back , cause simply they left the country escaping from ISIS
but I don't think that they are 1 million

They aren't going to leave Europe, voluntarily at least. These "refugees" in Europe are just economical migrants, no better than Albanians in Kosovo. Try to pull them out and you will get a full scale war. Roll Eyes

Bashar Jaafari, the Syrian ambassador to the United Nations, told the UN Security Council on Monday that around 1 million once-displaced Syrians have returned home so far after Russian air strikes cleared pathways for Assad’s Syrian army to liberate residential territory from the clutches of ISIS.

According to RT, Jaafari said, “This is precisely what happens when it comes to Syrian-Russian collaborative military action against terrorists and exchange of intelligence between Syria, Iraq, Iran and Russia. This has practically resulted in terrorist groups’ retreat from [their positions in] many areas, which allowed 1 million internally displaced persons to return safely to their homes.”
