Did anyone saw some of the memes that has been getting around related to the future sports activities in Afghanistan. For now the Taliban needs everything under their control. Afghanistan looked highly progressive as a new team, and we as an outsider doesn't know in what situation they've practiced and progressed. Now the pain is big, it takes long to reach and get co-ordinated.

Lol yeah forget about Myanmar or Bulgaria. Top 5 teams won't even play against existing bottom 5 teams for the qualification. They are playing their schedule card very well, its a lame excuse but it has some merits as well. Just look at England, New Zealand knee jerk reaction on upcoming Bangladesh and Pakistan bilateral tours respectively or upcoming Pakistan vs Afghanistan series.

That will be a problem, as there is no system of automatic qualification in any of the Olympic sports. Even the defending champions have to play the qualifier matches in sports such as baseball, football, basketball, volleyball and hockey. The only exception is given to the hosts, who are given direct entry. I am sure that the pig-3 and other self-proclaimed pigs like New Zealand would not agree to this idea. Now it needs to be seen who will blink first - the IOC, or the ICC. In case of the former, I don't think that they will treat cricket as a VIP sport and give it a luxury that is not granted for others.

I have a question isn’t there a rule of ICC which says governments can’t interfere with the cricket board, but with Taliban in place Afghanistan will be in breach of this rule. Also will other countries welcome Afghanistan player’s now, because there’s always a risk of Taliban fighters boarding with the team, and hence I feel that it’s the end of road for Afghanistan national player’s.
Majority of people are scared to death in Afghanistan and we are talking about sports when everyone is running for their life . I do not want to see the team getting banned because they have some exceptional talent but the idea of Taliban boarding a flight with players is silly to the core  Grin.

I am expecting some sort of negotiation from part of the international community or that would be the end for cricket for them.

Guess in the last meeting ICC mentioned about maximum 12-14 teams for the first tourney. On automatic qualification Our PIG 3 were reluctant to play any qualification matches due to schedule and other cricketing nation also in favor of existing ICC ranking based qualification, we have to wait and watch for the final confirmation. T-10 seems perfect for Olympics but ICC already cleared that they will start this journey with the T-20.

In the Olympic football tournament, a total of 16 teams took part and this will be an ideal number for the cricket tournament, IMO. But the big question is regarding automatic qualification. In the Olympics, only the host nation gains automatic qualification (and for the 2028 Olympics, that means the United States will gain direct entry). Everyone else (including teams like Brazil and Spain) played qualifier matches. And I don't think that the Pig-3 are going to accept this. Imagine India playing against Myanmar and England playing against Bulgaria.  Grin

The Taliban may not care about anything other than money. But Afghanistan is playing good cricket now. The Taliban will not decide to stop it now. They now want to make the whole of Afghanistan their own. They will also revive the Afghan economy and try not to upset the people of Afghanistan again. So they will not decide to stop other sports including cricket.

When the news first came that Taliban took over Kabul, a number of left-liberal voices (i.e pro-Taliban) were flooding the social media claiming that this is the more "moderate" Taliban and they are not as bad as the ones who were in power before 2001. And within the next 48 hours, we have had confirmed reports of government officials executed point blank, women shot dead for wearing tight dress (Balkh province) and those who celebrated the independence day with the Afghan national flag getting shot at (Jalalabad). On top of that, they have rounded up thousands of young girls, to be forcibly married to the fighters. Under these circumstances, I really don't think that things will be very smooth for cricket in that country.
Well looks like some pretty interesting discussion is going on here, I was too thinking of the Afghani Cricket future that day, it's almost certain that there won't be any National team unless Taliban is creating a cricket association and going into ICC  Grin I think top players like Rashid Khan and Nabi would move to some big middle East country and play leagues around the world to earn good money while rest of cricketers might have to move to other nations and try into teams of these countries, best option could be Oman and UAE, they are closest to Afghanistan and will love to create a good cricket team.

Afghanistan and Taliban are very friendly over the sports and you will find a very strong cricket team emerging from Afghanistan. I don't know about the short term position for them in the T20 world cup because ICC will take the decision based upon the pressure from the global media. But in the long run, Afghanistan will be a strongest cricket nation too.
Cricket in Afghanistan started to rise after the US invasion and you think that the Taliban will be allowing sports  Cheesy. Opium and money is what they want and power, they do not care about anything else.

Taliban did not took over the country, they were the native people of the Afghanistan. It was American who were trying to take over them, and they failed.
Sad to see that a terrorist could take over a country like that and the US created this mess and they are leaving in the mess they started during the cold war era. You cannot call them the native people as there are people in the group from different countries.

There is an interesting piece of news regarding the possible inclusion of cricket in 2028 Olympics.

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/mission-2028-what-does-cricket-road-to-the-olympics-look-like-1273607

Sharda Ugra analyses some of the challenges we may face before cricket gets included in the Olympics. He has listed a few important questions:

1. How many teams should compete in the main tournament?
2. How many teams should be given automatic qualification?
3. Which format should be in use? T20 or T10?

The new Government in Afganisthan should allow its national team to play in the upcoming world cup. They still have time and the decision should be out before the world cup starts. I do not see any reason to stop the team now from playing.

World Twenty20 Cricket Cup is fast approaching. Afghanistan cricket team now faces major concern after the Taliban took over the country. Afghanistan's cricket board is confident that it will be able to participate in the World T20. The Taliban might oppose sports, but we have to wait and see. According to my understanding, Taliban should allow Cricket.

The Taliban will not oppose the sport. And the Taliban have already said that Afghanistan will participate in the next World Cup. However, the president of the Afghanistan Cricket Board has been removed. And the Taliban has appointed an employee of their choice as board president. If no new war breaks out in Afghanistan before the next World Cup, Afghanistan will participate in the World Cup.

Afghanistan will not be compared with other countries at the moment. A war-torn country. If the ICC bans the Afghanistan Cricket Board according to their rules, then the future of Afghanistan cricket ends here. Because Afghanistan will never allow an independent cricket board to be formed. They must establish their authority over the board. However, the ICC has not yet issued an official statement on Afghanistan.

If the ICC goes by it's rulebook, then Afghanistan will be suspended from the primary membership and the national team will not be allowed in to any of the ICC tournaments.

Do you think that the Afghanistan players will agree to participate in the world cup, when their families are under siege form the Taliban? A lot of violence is going on there and huge number of people have been made refugees. One plus point is that cricket is one of the sporting activities that is allowed under the Taliban. The Afghanistan national cricket team played its first match, when Taliban was in power (2001?). I am looking towards the CPL, which is about to start next week. Several Afghan players are included in the franchise squads. If they participate in the CPL, then that would mean these players will be available for the World cup as well.

Can you share who are the worldwide TV producers for this series and where can we watch this tournament in Pakistan ?  Will Ten-Sports shows this ? Star sports and Hotstar services not available in Pakistan.

For Pakistan, Twitter and Facebook has signed a deal with the CPL management. Live stream of the CPL matches will be available on the official Twitter, YouTube and Facebook pages of the CPL.

Live stream on Twitter/Facebook/Youtube will be available for the following countries:

ICC cannot take steps to improve their performance, they will provide the funds and their cricket board has to find young talents and help them improve their game.

David Wiese the former South African player will be making his debut for Namibia and it is an advantage for them even though i have not seen him performing well when he was in the South African squad, maybe he will be performing far better in a team like Namibia as he will be getting all the freedom unlike playing in a competitive South African squad.

The ICC hasn't done much to help the smaller teams, after Jagmohan Dalmiya was kicked out as the ICC president two decades ago. On paper they provide some amount of funding. But due to the change in eligibility criteria, this mostly goes to teams like Oman and the UAE, who bring Indian and Pakistani nationals to represent them. Teams with native players, such as Namibia, Kenya, Papua New Guinea and Nepal have seen their rankings go down and the funding decline in the recent years.

I don't know why their ranking is so low, but I consider them as one of the strongest associate nations. They haven't played a lot of matches lately, and that may be the reason why their ranking is low. I still remember the match between Namibia and England in 2003 world cup. At one point, Namibia was ahead in the D/L par score. ~
16 nations will participate in upcoming T20 world cup. Namibia is the last ranked team among them. All other nations staying ahead of Namibia in the Men's T20I Team Rankings. And you are talking about an old match. Things has changed a lot since than. Other cricket team has made a lot of improvement. Namibia isn't a new team in cricket. ICC should take some steps so that lower rank teams can gradually improve their performance.

What is the issue with Namibia's ranking? if their board cannot spend money for the development of the team, how can ICC help them? Does ranking matters now? If the team performs well in the world cup automatically they will get recognised and their ranking will improve. If they are out in the first round no one will be asking about them.

The new Government in Afganisthan should allow its national team to play in the upcoming world cup. They still have time and the decision should be out before the world cup starts. I do not see any reason to stop the team now from playing.
