Great to see bitcoin expanding into more commercial industries, I think it will take a long time before it happens in the US though with the homeland security act and the reputation of bitcoin though.

There has been lots of positive bitcoin news coming from Latin America recently, Taringa! (the second largest social network to Facebook) is going to start paying all their content providers with btc soon plus users will also being able to tip each and buy physical goods. If anything I'd say they've embraced it more than the US in some respects (bare in mind that Latin America has a fairly underdeveloped finance system so it's fertile ground for cryptos).

Good news, always amazing to have big companies accept Bitcoin!

Not big enough for me to know - in the past. Today this company (TAR Airlines) finally reached my ear (I mean.. eye - reading). Thus, this is company become one of the biggest company I know accepting Bitcoin as payment.

I really hope to see a Airline which accept Bitcoin only. However.. this will need Bitcoin to be stable. Thus.. more than a hundred years before my this come true.

Never heard about it either, but I assume an airline, even if small, is quite a big company with a good measure of investors.

The fact that we do not know most of the "local" airlines, that doesn't mean they're not big Smiley

Every airport has their own airlines. Imagine if one by one , our local airlines also accept bitcoin as well just like TAR airlines did. It's only a matter of time. I can't imagine I can pay my own flight with bitcoin  Smiley

Excellent!  I wish more companies would accept bitcoins here in the usa.  I wonder if the classification of bit coins as an asset was a calculated move to prevent more companies from accepting it.  I imagine this might be a real headache for accounting departments versus just using cash.  Its great we see more and more of these stories all the time.  Thanks for posting it!

Everyone in Airlines should be accepting BTC already, it's great how you can go to any country in the world with BTC in phone and get some tickets without having to exchange to the local currency which is a big pita.

Wow, great news for the acceptance of Bitcoin. Hope other airlines will follow. This also confirms my prediction that the BTC mass adoption will likely start in Latin America.

"Mexico-based airlines TAR Aerolineas has become the first in Latin America to accept bitcoin payments.

The airliner will accept payments in the digital currency following a partnership between Openpay – a Mexico-based payment service provider – and payment processor BitPay.

In a statement, Jose Calzadias, commercial manager at TAR, said that the company, which serves 12 destinations throughout Mexico, would continue to evaluate payment options that give "real added value" to customers.

The news follows Latvian airline airBaltic's Twitter announcement that it was accepting bitcoin in July last year."
