Can anyone else download the source? It keeps hanging at "in 3 seconds..." for me.

What CPU does the system you made the video with have? It looks very slow compared to e.g. btcrecover.

What language is it written in? From the UI it looks like Java.

Still working on a few issues, but works pretty well so far, I am going to add wallet.aes.json support for Blockchain wallet recovery. Also Am looking for suggestions for a new title for the application as another user pointed out using the work cracker as a tool name doesn't sound professional.

I would make sure to say that this is what could happen IF it is in dictionary.  Creating it you obviously used a passphrase in your dictionary.  I suggest making it more clear if it is not in dictionary... it can be much longer and in some cases impossible (realistically) to recovery.

You don't have to make a huge change even "TeamBits - Bitcoin Wallet Recovery Tool" sounds a ton better, takes away a lot of the bad stigma with "cracker".   Also I suggest showing virus scans online such as virus total showing if they find "bad things" in your software I suggest a few well known online virus scan's.

You could always 'crack' the file on a machine not connected to the internet.   You dont have to trust it so much then, if it finds the lost password to your locked wallet then you can just use that information on your duplicate machine elsewhere.

I guess dictionary is not really brute force, yes you are right its best for short random passwords.   I tried going upto like 6 characters and it still hadnt found anything, I guess i had set 8 and that exceeds current tech maybe

notlist3d, thanks for the great suggestion, I do agree name needs work, Like the recovery instead of cracker, makes it sound a lot more proper. Will modify the application in the next week or so to reflect a new name that is less dark natured.

The best cracker for rar files I saw was using the GPU not CPU, is that the case here since its brute force I believe thats the better route ?

I don't know about this program.  But in general if you have a good dictionary it is a LOT better then brute forcing.   But the key is it being a good dictionary, so you would have to have the password in dictionary.  Having a huge dictionary I don't personally see as a big advantage.  A more custom targeted dictionary is better any day.  So if you are the owner and say know first part of password that is huge advantage when trying to recover a wallet.

So brute force is good for smaller ones as it goes though every single possibility.  Dictionary focuses on specific guesses does not go through every possible combo.  Where brute forcing fail's is longer or more complicated passwords.   Some passwords are just not going to be brute forced it is mainly taking advantage of simple smaller password's.

I personally will not be trying this program as I don't really care to have a file from someone so new on any of my computers.   Also I realy really don't like "cracker" as the program name.... you should be "recovering" in my eyes. So might look at name change.  And again I would not touch till someone trusted confirms it is not something bad hidden in download.

TeamBits has released a new wallet cracker that supports Bitcoin Core, Multibit, Electrum, and Amory.

Bitcoin Wallet Cracker 0.13a includes a huge dictionary list to test against the wallet(s) and allows you to load custom dictionaries in case the built in one does not crack it.

This tool is still in the alpha stages. Any glitches or issues with the application should be reported under the Codeplex Issues section.
