In the old days the BIOS chip was socketed, so you could, worst case, pull the chip out and reprogram it with a different device...

In the really old days, that was the only way to change the BIOS...

You're probably best off contacting the motherboard manufacturer's technical support since they're the ones most likely to have a list of all of its quirks and foibles and how best to work around them.  If you get stuck tell me the manufacturer and model number and I'm usually pretty good at being able to run down technical information.

Just a shot on the dark: try finding a smallest possible USB drive and format it FAT16, not the usual FAT32.

Thanks.  I will try this as well.

It was corrupted and was saying that it needed BIOS restore asking me to insert USB drive with BIOS files on it.  When I did this though it didn't seem to work.  I'll have to try again with an older version of the BIOS and see if that works.

It's all about the game, and how you play it

have you tried using the flash drive to reflash an older version of the bios(presumably the one that worked before)

Does anyone have experience flashing computer BIOS's?  I have a computer which needs the BIOS flashed but I have been unsuccessful so far.  It doesn't have a CD or floppy drive so I'm using a USB flash drive to boot off of.  I set it up as a bootable drive and put the motherboard's latest BIOS version on it.  When I booted the computer with the flash drive in it, it found the appropriate file but after loading it nothing happened.  Whenever I start up the computer now it says:

"BIOS recovery requested.  Starting BIOS Recovery... Please insert USB flash Disk with BIOS file."

Just wondering if anyone had some advice or links they could refer me to.
