Check your coin privilege
Hey OP, is your computer still not restarted? If that's the case and you're using the latest Window 10, try pressing the Windows Button + V, hopefully the clipboard option was activated by default for you maybe. You can also just try pasting again you know, in case you never turned off the PC and never copied anything else.

You also need to double check your actions and stop panicking. Are you sure you sent the data to USB? maybe you pasted it in a different drive? It used to happen to me all the time. Do you remember the name of your text file? Try to retrace your actions, and recover the file from your own PC, if the USB was no good.

There is also this not so well known recovery tool that helped two of my friends back in the day, it's very efficient : https://www.r-studio.com/Data_Recovery_Download.shtml

Maybe I've missed something, but from what I've read (shortly), you try to recover the file from the USB.
I'd try something else: concentrate more on recovering from PC. You had the file on PC before the Cut/Paste. This means the file was deleted from PC and you may have a (small) chance to retrieve it.

Of course, if it was on desktop or anywhere on the OS drive, you should not even boot from that HDD until you recovered your file. I hope it was on another drive and then it should be easier, just don't write new files.

Why I am saying this? When you write into the USB stick you first write into some buffers of your PC (afaik, but I am not expert) and if you didn't "eject" nicely or "safely remove" that stick your data may have not been written at all there.

Crypto Swap Exchange

  • try to show the hidden files on that USB stick if the .txt file was converted incidentally.

Have you tried this?
On default Windows settings, you can't see hidden files. You need to enable these options.

Thanks for the replies everyone,

OS is Windows 10
- @Pamoldar , Thanks, I tried the windows previous version trick before, unfortunately, there is no previous copy for the file as it was off by default. I will take a look at Stellar program now.

- @ bL4nkcode , Apparently it still keeps a copy in cut/paste case [ not too sure though, just something I found out from my search today but supposedly these are also treated as deleted ]

- @ Cosette, Tried it before, it's not hidden and the size is 0 byte, OS is windows, and it's not anything physical, I both had it secured and absolutely sure no one who approached it or used it so it's better to think of this as a technical issue.

- @ Pamoldar, Thanks! will do, I feel drained enough as it is, I will just run another recovery program to deep scan that will take few hours and take this opportunity to rest for a bit, I do not trust the efficiency of experts in my real world location and If it came to them, I am pretty sure recovering would be near impossible, counting on myself, google, stack and people here for the current time.

The only real advicei'd like to add to this case is: don't do to many manipulations with that usb stick before you clone it...
Use dd (or a similar tool) to clone the stick before you attempt any other recovery method. Make sure the tool you use makes a full clone and not just copies the files that are on the stick.

For example, if you're cloning /dev/sdd
dd if=/dev/sdd of=usb.img bs=1024 count=5

you can even copy usb.img and open one of the copies

xxd usb.img

offcourse, the commands i posted are only valid if you os is linux, but there should be alternatives for windows to...

AFAIK recovery app can only find the deleted files and not the moved/cut files in any file manager/file storage (correct me if I'm wrong though).
I am not sure but my guess is the OS always keep an image in its memory for every action we do. Move/cut etc includes the actions. Hopefully op will find someone who is expert to recover the files.

Also I will advise OP to take a break, have a cool mind and study a bit about file recovery so that he does not only rely on the experts decision. Expert will do his work but if he see anything wrong then he can at-least ask him (expert) that if we go this way don't you think that could happen?

Remember it's your file, if there is even a small chance to recover then you get the BTC back but for the expert it can be just another job. So make sure he takes it seriously as you do.

DAMN SON!
Is usb volume changing when you plugged it again? I faced same problem like this, did you try show hidden files by administrator? Try it if not. A little bit late, but what is your OS? Some OS have auto hidden for .txt files if i recall it correctly, i might be wrong but, you should try to show hidden files.

Limited in number. Limitless in potential.
Honestly speaking this will be very hard job to be done online. I suggest you find recovery expert from you local. Explain him everything. If he say that he can recover the file only then go with him. Stay next to him all the time so that he can not move or hide any contents.
To make things sure, don't ever mentioned crypto/bitcoin etc. related in cryptocurrency, just tell him/her that you have some important files that you want to recover.

For you todo,
  • try to show the hidden files on that USB stick if the .txt file was converted incidentally.
  • use only a premium recovery app and download it from the main source, don't ever download a crack file of the software.

One thing is I'm not sure if someone got accessed the usb stick while you're not around, coz it's hard to believe that you use some recovery app but nothing found. AFAIK recovery app can only find the deleted files and not the moved/cut files in any file manager/file storage (correct me if I'm wrong though).

Hi,

The Problem :

* I have a Blockchain.info wallet, I stored the password and the private keys into a .txt file and been using it for few days, had a total balance of 0.6 before deciding to keep it in a USB as a cold storage, bought and sent the .txt to USB via ( Cut/Paste ), reopened it and everything seemed fine, safely removed the USB and left it for few hours.

* When I checked again in the morning, The USB is empty, no txt file (folder still exist )

NOTES :
* PC hasn't been restarted, if this has value.
* I connected the USB to 2 different computers, nothing is in there.
* Used Recueva and Puran File Recovery and didn't find the file in question [ Scanned the PC C Drive and the USB ).

Reward : ONLY in case of recovery of file is 0.2 BTC.

I am ready for either do etc... or Team Viewer Support.

* NO SPAM please, any comment that is just there for a sig campaign or just to piss the already-mentally exhausted me will be deleted.

Only try with the professional.

I am not sure but I guess you may need to use the file recovery for the OS and in that case online assistance is not going to be very easy. I am sorry to hear the lose you have but I hope you will find a way.

Good luck.

PS: When I move sensitive files from computer to any USB drive or any other removable drive, I make sure I have two backup copy. Don't use Cut/Paste.

Update
Have you tried this? https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/17119/windows-7-recover-lost-deleted-files

Not sure about your OS.

Another update
Try this article too: https://www.stellarinfo.com/blog/recover-accidentally-deleted-folder-pc/

But whatever you do, make sure you have an expert with you.
