I am absolutely disgusted by this. This woman believes that men are nothing but disposable tools meant to end their lives in order to provide her with sympathy and attention from her peers. Michelle Carter should kill herself.

"Days prior to Roy’s suicide, Carter was allegedly telling her friends “it’s her fault that Conrad is dead, even though he was still alive and speaking and texting with her regularly,” police said.

South Coast Today reported that on July 11, 2014, Carter texted a friend saying she couldn’t locate Roy and was “a mess,” then an hour later texted Roy and allegedly said, “Let me know when you’re gonna do it.” "

Anyone who encourages someone to kill themselves either has never been so depressed that it feels like that's the only option, or has blatant disregard for life. It is very right that this girl ends up in prison, because using anyone's life as a platform for your social-status  regardless of the outcome is weak.

When this young man is literally putting his life in your hands and is clearly unstable emotionally... You are at fault and you are acting maliciously if your response ever goes outside the boundaries of "What is the extent of which I can assist this person through this?".

Once you encourage the worst case scenario, and blatantly make yourself the face of the tragedy.. Do not pass go, Go directly to jail

Psychopath and a stupid. "Perfect" combination. I feel sorry for both of them especially the man. Why didn't he realize that his girlfriend is a kind of psychopath by coaxing him like that and he shouldn't have killed himself.

I still cant understand why are people so dumb enough to comit suicide for a stupid girl, i mean do these guys have nuts in their sacks?

It is just horrible how pussies guys have become. They really need to stop being so submissive.

Because when you have a girl trying to be that close to you your brain stops working properly if you don't have any experience of being with a manipulative woman, I really feel sorry for the guy, if he had realised sooner she was just playing with him he'd still be alive.

Massachusetts teen charged with encouraging her boyfriend to commit suicide

Prosecutors have charged a Massachusetts teen with involuntary manslaughter after text messages to her boyfriend appeared to show her urging him to commit suicide.

Conrad Roy III parked his truck outside a Fairhaven Kmart last year and killed himself by carbon monoxide poisoning. Prosecutors say Michelle Carter, his girlfriend at the time, assisted him by urging him to overcome his doubts about taking his own life, pressuring him to do it and even telling him to get back in his truck after becoming frightened that the plan was working.

"You can't think about it. You just have to do it. You said you were gonna do it. Like I don't get why you aren't," Carter allegedly wrote to Roy on the day he died. Carter’s lawyer has denied that she pushed him to kill himself and has asked the judge to dismiss the case.

In their written response, prosecutors included text exchanges between Carter and Roy that they say support their claim that Carter caused her boyfriend's death by "wantonly and recklessly" helping him poison himself.

Roy, 18, had a history of depression and had previously attempted suicide two years earlier, taking an overdose of the painkiller acetaminophen.

"You can't keep living this way. You just need to do it like you did the last time and not think about it and just do it, babe," Carter texted him.

Joseph Cataldo, Carter’s lawyer, said her texts amount to speech protected by the First Amendment. He said it’s clear from the exchanges that Roy had made up his mind to take his own life and Carter, now 18, didn’t cause his death.

"He got the generator, he devised the plan and he had to go find a spot. He parked, he had to get the gas for the generator, he had to turn the generator on, he had to sit in that car for a long period of time. He caused his own death," Cataldo said.

"He had thought this out. He wanted to take his own life. It's sad, but it's not manslaughter."

Roy spent most of his time in a psychiatric hospital following his earlier suicide attempt. In the weeks prior to his death, he was gearing up to graduate from high school and receive his sea captain’s license, said his aunt, Becki Maki.

"He did not have the signs of someone who was considering that," Maki said.

Carter and Roy had met two years earlier while both were visiting relatives in Florida. They kept in touch through text message and email upon returning to Massachusetts. The two lived about 50 miles apart and hadn’t seen each other for about a year before Roy died.

Roy used a gasoline-operated water pump to poison himself with carbon monoxide.

While discussing the plan, Carter appears to taunt Roy. "But I bet you're gonna be like 'oh, it didn't work because I didn't tape the tube right or something like that," she wrote. "I bet you're gonna say an excuse like that ... you seem to always have an excuse."

Cataldo said Carter had tried to repeatedly talk Roy out of killing himself and only decided to support his plan after it became clear Roy wasn’t going back. After about a month before his suicide, she suggested that he seek treatment at a psychiatric hospital where she was receiving treatment for an undisclosed condition. Roy refused and later suggested that they both kill themselves, like Romeo and Juliet, Cataldo said.

In a text exchange on July 7, 2014, six days before he was found dead, Carter advised Roy to seek help.

"Well it's too late I already gave up," Roy responded.

Some legal experts say it may have been a reach for prosecutors to charge Carter with manslaughter. Massachusetts does not have a law against assisted suicide.

"Causation is going to be a vital part of this case," said Daniel Medwed, a Northeastern University law professor. "Can the prosecution prove that she caused him to kill himself in this way? Would he have done it anyway?"

Prosecutors point to a text Carter sent to a friend after Roy's death.

"...his death is my fault like honestly I could have stopped him I was on the phone with him and he got out of the car because it was working and he got scared and I (expletive) told him to get back in ... because I knew he would do it all over again the next day and I couldn't have him live the way he was living anymore I couldn't do it I wouldn't let him," Carter wrote.

Roy's grandfather, also named Conrad, said his grandson seemed happy in the days before he died.

"He was coming out of his depression," Roy said. "We saw the light at the end of the tunnel, and she just blew that tunnel up. She shut the light off."

Well now all the information has come out, she definitely belongs in jail for being a crazy and manipulative sociopath.

She's definitively a sociopath and evil manipulative bitch, but I'm on the fence on whether she should go to jail as abhorrent as her actions were. The dude was an idiot for even staying in communication with her but as far as I'm aware telling someone to go kill themselves isn't against the law. He should've ignored it and moved on.
i dont blame the guy at all, suicidal people dont think the same way a person in a normal state would think. maybe he thought this sociopath was the only outlet  he had left.
as far as weather or not her actions were legal or not, assisting people with suicide has legal restrictions iirc, and is only legal under certain circumstances. not only did she tell him to just go kill himself, she actively coaxed him to continue with the act. she definitely belongs in jail until a therapist deems her able to integrate back into normal society.

While this sounds good in theory, there is no way to cure a sociopath, and as far as I know therapy and stuff like that makes them even more dangerous.
of course you cant cure a psychological disorder just like that, but it is possible to treat it. if the disorder is managed to a certain extent, assimilation into normal society is very possible. just a few links i searched up:

If you feel so strongly about suicide don't tell someone else to kill themselves.  Roll Eyes  Pro tip.

This doesn't make sense? What's the joke? The logic is the exact opposite...so it wouldn't be pro tip!

There have always been sociopaths in the world but in the past it was easier to avoid them, now young people are so into social networks and stuff like that for a generation of young men and women it seems impossible to just turn off that d*mn mobile phone. And since they don’t do it, the bullies and abusers have access 24/7 to you, in your house, work, and every place you go, thanks to the mobile phone.

Guys really need to man up and see how women are really are, that girl was just a narcissistic egomaniac with no feelings.

I know some nice girls that are kind and helpful, but there are these sluts who just fuck around and want to steal your money and life power.

Just ignore these vampires, and let them starve without attention, narcissists will starve without attenton, so let them.
i really dont see much hope for improvement on this girl, especially if she is both narcissistic and a sociopath; a narcissist will always be justified in their actions in their own heads, and you cant get them to relate to how other people they feel either. ive got a feeling whatever therapist picks up this girl's case isnt going to make much progress into getting her to integrate into normal society.

Narcissists are not always sociopaths, but i agree that 95% of teen girls are narcissists, probably because all this social media and the craving for fame and attention.

Its disgusting how women became so bad with all this celebrity culture and egomania. Women were always attention seekers, but now with all this "social media crap" and this "party culture", this problem became abominational.

Not to mention with a little bit of extra ingredients called feminism, I just think the west is doomed.

No wonder the birthrate in the west is so low, who wants to make a family with these disgusting whores?

likely not, imo her motive in pressuring her friend to kill himself was to bask in the attention that would follow as a result of her friendship with him; an attention whore.
she clearly has some psychological problems (sociopath? correct me if I'm wrong), possibly multiple. she clearly values some temporary attention more than a human life though, and people like that can't be part of a normal society.

This story just makes me sick. Truly sociopathic behavior.

The worst she will get is manslaughter, when it really should be murder.

‘It’s now or never': Texts reveal teen’s efforts to pressure boyfriend into suicide

Michelle Carter knew that if anyone found her text messages to her boyfriend Conrad Roy III, she might go to jail.

“[If the police] read my messages with him I’m done. His family will hate me and I can go to jail,” Carter texted a friend after her 18-year-old boyfriend used a gas-powered water pump to commit suicide in the parking lot of a KMart.

Carter had asked Roy in a text message to delete her messages before he carried out the suicide last summer, but investigators found them anyway.

According to prosecutors, Carter pressured her boyfriend to go through with suicide for almost a week before he carried out the act. She counseled him to overcome his fears; researched methods of committing suicide painlessly; and lied to police, his family and her friends about his whereabouts during the act itself and after, prosecutors said.

Carter, who was 17 at the time of Roy’s death, now faces manslaughter charges in juvenile court in Massachusetts.

Her attorney argues, however, that the charges should be dropped because Carter’s messages are protected by free speech. According to attorney Joseph P. Cataldo, Carter was “brainwashed” into supporting Roy’s plan for suicide.

“He ultimately persuaded a young, impressionable girl,” Caldato told reporters, according to South Coast Today. “Eventually he gets her to endorse his plan.”

But in an indictment released Friday, prosecutors outlined in nauseating detail the extent of Carter’s alleged role in helping Roy overcome his doubts about suicide.

For more than a week in July 2014, Carter and Roy exchanged hundreds of messages in which Carter insisted that Roy would be better off dead.

“You’re finally going to be happy in heaven. No more pain,” she told him in one message. “It’s okay to be scared and it’s normal. I mean, you’re about to die.”

According to prosecutors, the two had struck up a romantic relationship — mostly online — in 2012. Her lawyer says they had only met a few times in person over the course of two years prior to Roy’s death.

Roy had a history of depression and had attempted suicide in the past, but his family was hopeful that he would get through it.

“He seemed to be pulling out of it,” his grandmother Janice Roy told WBZ.

[How to talk to your teen about depression, suicide]

Text messages recovered by police, however, suggest that by 2014, Carter had gotten tired of Roy’s idle talk of suicide and she wanted him to go through with it  — now.

“You always say you’re gonna do it, but you never do,” Carter complained. “I just want to make sure tonight is the real thing.”

Another time, she texted: “You can’t keep pushing it off, though. That’s all you keep doing.”

Carter was insistent, even when Roy steered the topic to other things:

ROY: How was your day?

CARTER: When are you doing it?

Roy said he was having a good day, but Carter wasn’t satisfied.

CARTER: Really?

ROY: Yes.

CARTER: That’s great. What did you do?

ROY: Ended up going to work for a little bit and then just looked stuff up.

CARTER: When are you gonna do it? Stop ignoring the question???

Roy had doubts, and he was scared, according to his texts. What if it didn’t work and he ended up injured for the rest of his life? How would his family cope with the loss?

Carter had answers.

He would be her guardian angel in heaven.

She would comfort his family and they would move on.

If he followed the directions he had found online for killing himself with carbon monoxide, it would “100 percent work,” she said.

“There isn’t anything anyone can do to save you, not even yourself,” she told him.

But committing suicide would require tools. Roy thought about using a tube to channel the exhaust from his truck’s tailpipe into the vehicle but realized that the diesel engine emitted lower levels of carbon monoxide that might make failure more likely.

Carter was confident that it would work and told him why.

“If you emit 3200 ppm of it for five or ten minutes, you will die within a half hour,” she told him. “You lose consciousness with no pain. You just fall asleep and die.”

But Carter didn’t love that idea, either, because she feared that Roy would make up an “excuse” to explain why it didn’t work.

“I bet you’re gonna be like ‘oh, it didn’t work because I didn’t tape the tube right or something like that,'” she texted him “You always seem to have an excuse.”

When Roy decided to use a generator instead, Carter was impatient.

“Do you have the generator?” she asked him.

“Not yet LOL,” he replied.

“WELL WHEN ARE YOU GETTING IT?” she wrote.

Eventually, Roy did find a generator — his father’s — but it was broken. Carter told him to take it to Sears for repairs.

And if Roy couldn’t find a way to use carbon monoxide, Carter suggested alternatives: “I’d try the bag or hanging,” she told him. “Hanging is painless and take like a second if you do it right.”

The day of Roy’s death — July 12, 2014 — he and Carter exchanged texts in the early morning hours.

“You can’t think about it. You just have to do it,” Carter said, telling him she didn’t understand why he was hesitating.

“I’m gonna eventually,” he replied. “I really don’t know what I’m waiting for but I have everything lined up.”

She suggested that he take Benadryl to fall asleep and allow the fumes to work.

She worried that he wouldn’t go through with it because the sun would soon be coming up.

She suggested that he go to an empty parking lot.

They texted throughout the day about the plans, about Roy’s doubts, and about Carter’s insistence that “the time is right” and that he was ready.

At the same time, Carter appeared to be preparing her friends and Roy’s relatives for his eventual death. Days before his suicide, Carter texted a friend named Samantha and claimed that Roy was missing — though she was communicating with him at exactly the same time about how to fix his father’s broken generator.

The day before his death, she told her friend: “I’m thankful that our last words were I love you.”

At some point on the night of July 12, Roy went through with the suicide, using a gas-powered water pump. He died of carbon monoxide poisoning inside the cab of his pickup truck.

While he was in the truck with the pump running, he was on the phone texting and talking with Carter, she told her friend.

“Like, honestly I could have stopped it,” Carter texted Samantha months later. “I was on the phone with him and he got out of the car” because the carbon monoxide was working, she said. She added that she “told him to get back in.”

Roy’s body was found by police on the morning of July 13.

A judge will now decide whether Carter will face charges in his death. She will appear in court again on Oct. 2.

After his death, Carter became a self-proclaimed advocate for mental health.

She organized a fundraising tournament in Roy’s memory and posted on Facebook and Twitter about her attempts to save her boyfriend’s life.

“Even though I could not save my boyfriend’s life, I want to put myself out here to try to save as many other lives as possible,” she wrote on Facebook.

Its time we create meninism, opposite for feminism to support our fellow bro dudes around the world.
This is kind of already happening, and "feminists" are lashing out at these groups with everything they have, including violence, bomb threats, and accusing these groups of being "terrorist" organizations. These groups are most commonly known by the "Men's Rights Movement (MRM or MR)" and "Men Going Their Own Way (MGTOW)". Or women and men could just unite on the fucking issue and stop trying to take sides, you know, by treating each other equally in the courts and in society.

You are on a side whether you like it or not by default. Unfortunately the "feminist" movement has been morphing into a female supremacy movement with political Marxist tendencies that is no longer interested in equality. I am pro-equality, and pro-anyone who wants equality, however if there is an organized movement to subjugate men, well I don't see any reason to sit by silently and tolerate my entire gender being turned into some kind of lower caste section of society free to be abused. The gender polar opposite of abuse is not righting a wrong, it is just more abuse under new management.

Its called sociopathy (complete lack of empathy).  It is primarily genetic but can also be learned. You can't understand it because you are not mentally ill. This is how these types of people thrive, everyone would like to believe that people could never be this twisted, but unfortunately according to studies up to 20% of the population are sociopaths to varying degrees.

The world is becoming a very sick place, and people like her are the result as well as the cause. There is no reform for sociopaths like this. Unfortunately society seems to give women more of a pass on this kind of behavior because no one wants to examine the implications of our society's mothers (who should be nurturers) as potentially being predators. It is almost too horrible to examine from this perspective, therefore almost no one does.

Nowadays things like death funerals and mourning are becoming something fashionable comparable to normal everyday things like going to a party or shopping.
A couple years ago I read about a teenager, who crawled into a cremation furnace in Auschwitz to get a good picture she later posted on facebook. Funeral selfies are also becoming popular not to mention girls comparing their funeral dresses... wtf is wrong with these people.

Wow, relationship gone wrong? What could drive a women to do such a thing? Psycopath for sure, but even them usually don't do stuff like that during high school age unelss there's really fucked up family conditions (I know a guy who had to beat someone with a baseball bat til he almost died at 10 years of age because hes father forced him to). This women if guilty should be executed, she will just keep killing. No turning those people normal...
I'd like to see the evidence, was there someone with her? Maybe a he owed drug money?

Read the article, it describes her detailing her responsibility for his death before it happened to friends along with several encouragements for him to follow thru with the act as well as her taking advantage of the situation for personal gain after the fact.

I'm just telling you what is actually going on, yes it is a shitty thing to do to a person, the people involved in such things are scum, the fact is though they haven't tried to physically harm them even if they may have tried coercing them into doing it, the problem is if she's prosecuted it will set another precedent where people can't take responsbility for their own actions and therefore somebody else or something else is to blame. I don't bullshit people, I'm not going to coddle you and tell you she's a monster and a horrible person and should be thrown into jail for what she did, she's certainly a horrible person, but unfortunately if we jail people for that we're all going to be put in at one point or another.

That's just the reality of the world we live in and why we have to limit ourselves from becoming a mob that randomly lynches people we don't like.

I agree with you to a degree. I don't think we need new or existing cyberbullying legislation, but I do however believe that existing well established laws on the books cover what she did as I previously stated, such as harassment, stalking, abuse of the disabled, and potentially manslaughter. I think the key in this particular case is that she demonstrated intent as well as motive, which are both primary tenets of law enforcement, making this not such a gray area case like most of the other cases I linked.

Did you even read the article fully, or my responses for that matter? The issue was not that she was attempting to overtly bully him via social media, her use of social media was simply evidence of her intent to drive the man to suicide while she pretended to be his friend and tried to elicit sympathy for herself. So IMO it is not appropriate to make a direct comparison to "cyberbullying", because this was not that situation. I do however agree that "cyberbullying" legislation, or laws against "trolling" are not able to be justly enforced, are moronic and shouldn't exist.

However, this is a unique and clear cut case of harassment with INTENT to cause harm to the man along with MOTIVE. In law intent and motive are very important factors in prosecution, and I believe the information gleaned from her social media activities and texts clearly show her intent and motive to cause harm to the boy via psychological manipulation and abuse in order to serve her own twisted purposes. There are plenty of laws on the books about harassment, stalking, and abuse of disabled (aka psychologically ill people) that could easily be invoked in this case without using "cyberbullying" legislation.

As far as the gender issue, I disagree. This is very clearly an issue of gender bias, at least in your personal interpretations if not on a national scale.
You brought up Amanda Todd, and this is a perfect example how a similar situation, when it happens to a female is almost universally considered to be a travesty and predictably people cry out for the perpetrators to be brought to justice. Given Amanda Todd was a minor, so I am not sure a direct comparison is appropriate because of this, but it does demonstrate how when such events are perpetrated on a female the reaction is to immediately seek reprisals. Then in the same vein when an even more purposeful attempt to drive someone to suicide for personal gain (rather than just mindless bullying with no real specific intent for result, or evident motive) is perpetrated by a female against a male, people such as your self are immediately dismissive and place the blame squarely upon the victim without a second thought. When a female commits suicide because of harassment there is a national outreach and push to find the perpetrators far more often then when a male is in a similar situation.

Some examples of how these cases are handled differently according to gender:

General debate over whether bullying resulting in suicide is a crime: http://www.debate.org/opinions/should-bullies-be-charged-with-murder-if-their-victims-commit-suicide

As you can see almost none of the cases relating to male suicides result in criminal investigations let alone charges, while many if not most of the cases related to female suicides result in criminal investigations as well as criminal charges. I believe personal responsibility is important, and also that freedom of speech should be carefully protected, yet when there is clear intent with motive to convince some one to commit suicide there are plenty of laws that can be invoked and SHOULD be invoked in cases such as in the OP. Unfortunately even though the suicide rate for males is much higher, it is not often that investigations related to bullying are carried out when the victim is male. Why is no one asking why pushing a male suicide is some how less of a crime?

Yeah, this has nothing to do with social media or genders, look it sucks, don't get me wrong, but I'll let you into a little bit of my personal life, while thankfully not as extreme I've had to deal with sociaopathic socialites like her back in my school days, the guy who's been on the receiving end of this clearly had the misfortune of being too young or not knowing any better to know about her type. They are easily intimidated creatures who try to play innocent in society while targeting the people they perceive as weak so they can get away with their shitty treatment of people. In this case it was a guy who clearly had some serious issues and it ended up backfiring on her badly, when everything goes horribly wrong, they fall back and try to pretend about how friendly they are with the victim as she is doing now to cover themselves.

In regards to the whole gender thing, you've also got some fucked up situations like Amanda Todd ( wouldn't recommend googling it if you don't want your day ruined ) and yes, social media is the weapon of choice for these people but it's easily avoided by staying the fuck away from these places, don't go near them unless you know how to handle them. I've pretty much psycho-analysed these people from what they tried doing to me in school and because they're socialites they'll hang out at the obvious places where they can meet new people or rather victims and social media just happens to be the best platform for that right now.

I know it's shitty, but they break no laws, the best defence against them at least on the internet is to block them or if they get nasty report them to the police, or better yet, record all the shit they say and post it on the internet these are the same people who celebreties mistakenly call 'trolls' when in reality they are nothing more than a bunch of hilariously brain-dead sociopaths that can't bend people to their will so they try manipulating everyone instead.

In other words, vigilance, always vigilance.

If you feel so strongly about suicide don't tell someone else to kill themselves.  Roll Eyes  Pro tip.

She's clearly a sociopath but that guy had control over himself and was capable of thinking for himself too, I'm not really sure she can be blamed for manslaughter, women like that you just stay away from and don't communicate with at all, he could have gone to the police if it was that big of a problem.

And yes LOL penguin Tongue it's like gun control advocates saying they think someone should be shot Tongue
Protip: Get off your high horse. (also maybe try having an original thought instead of just a cliche)

Suicide sucks, and suicidal people should get help, but I am not disgusted by this just because of the suicide. In fact I am for euthanasia in a lot of circumstances, especially when terminally ill people no longer have any quality of life and choose to do so of sound mind. I am disgusted by the fact that she not only influenced him to do it as a close friend of his, but clearly did so with the intent to use his death as a way to gain attention, social status, sympathy, and donations for her organizations.

The circumstances surrounding her use of social media, and her behavior before the fact clearly indicate she knew there was a good chance he would go thru with it, and she intended to use his death for her personal gratification. He might have done it anyway without her help, but her actions indicate to me she was toying with him for some time trying to push him over the edge, and making plans for the resulting actions while she posed as his friend (as opposed to overt bullying). Also as a young man, of course a plastic looking pretty girl like herself will have undue influence on his sense of self worth. He clearly was not old enough to have had the experiences to teach him to stay away from manipulative sociopathic barbie dolls.

Additionally, think for a minute if the genders were reversed... the nation would be crying and invoking cyberbullying legislation and condemning the man for acting in such a way, but when a women does it there are plenty of empty headed people ready to make excuses for her regardless of the evidence that she had clear intent to influence him to end his life for her own personal gain. Why is a man's life worth less than a woman's?
