Thats true most of them is a scam, Telegram bots just work like Ponzi scheme, and probably those so-called self drops are just designed to scam Eth from the prospective participants disguised as a form of gas fees, thats why it's better to avoid that kind of trick especially from Telegram bots. It's better to look from the legitimate platform for more chances of good returns.

I don’t know if you have encountered these Telegram bots before who are offering fake airdrops. Like ClipClaps and Sky Token’s case today, they are offering you a “too good to be true” amount of ETH or tokens to be given away to the airdrop participants for participating and for referring a reasonable amount of people to do the same like you.

After the airdrop period, they would ask you to send them an upfront payment as “gas fees” to “verify that you are a real person”. Like Sky Token, they are asking us 0.005 ETH as “gas fee” so that they will distribute the tokens to your wallet (which may be true or not true and may end up as shitcoin). As for ClipClaps, they are asking 0.006 or 0.01 ETH as gas fees before distributing the ETH. ClipClaps is currently disabling chat room for the community.

As for Sky Token, as I warned another users not to send money to them, they kicked me out and continue to scam more people with their so-called “selfdrop”. I also find out that they both don’t have websites as well.

Have you guys encountered these kinds of fake and scammish airdrops using Telegram bots?

The two projects you've mentioned deserve to be in the scam section if there are no topics about these two fake airdrops then please create one I don't trust telegram when it comes to airdrop and investment there is no transparency, they can easily ban you in the conversation not unlike here where conversations are more democratic.

Yes there are a lot of airdrop bots based scams online and most of us face them almost daily. I am personally so fed up of spam and scam in telegram channels that if i see someone added me in a new group or channel i just delete the group and report it as spam even without checking what it is about. The fact that there are so many scammers out there is alarming and I think community needs to comeup with their own scam buster police to identify and block and report such scammers and also alert other people.

I have not encountered this but IIRC this scam happened too in the past like 2016-2017. Those were the times when ICOs emerging and a lot of projects were being loved by the investors.
Airdrops that asked for the gas fee and they'll eventually send the tokens right away. So this scam has been existing before and they are renewing it for those victims that still don't know it exists.

I have never seen where Airdrop have request a deposit of some payments to receive the reward, I think any project requesting this is definitely a scam and should be avoided, normal Airdrop don't request deposit, scammers will always want to deceive people through every possible means necessary.
Airdrop is now more and more and therefore we must be able to distinguish which are legal and which are not I also always follow the airdrop with an easy task of course by not asking for any deposits.

The real truth is the scammers intent is to make gains through those pennies gas fee that you think are small but honestly get yourself a calculator and calculate those gas fee in 1000 places, there is no free way of making money in crypto space. Airdrops works but through the right sources, stay away from too good to true offers
Hello, who are you suggesting this to? Yes, don't you see that the OP who made this topic is more experienced than you who just entered the forum this year in the past two months, hello mate, don't make jokes here.

it's a poorway to scam people a small time scammer that don't have a budget, they can't even manage to have their own website.

The strategy is the same thing as selling their tokens to user's which they called selfdrop.  If you think carefully they are not giving it for free you are buying the tokens to them in exchange for your eth.

What do you think would happen to ETH they collected ? They will secure it to their fund and create another  same project as this one after receiving many ETH from people.

Nothing new I guess, because these strategies are used by the scammers to get people's money for no real coins and the platform may be changed as you mentioned telegram bots is new added feature in this scamming strategy. Roll Eyes

Right now I still find airdrops with telegram bots that often ask for gas on the grounds of lack of funds, there are still plenty of original people verification and they are currently quite smart. because they manipulate scam tokens

on a shit exchange and play buy and sell orders, so people are interested to pull their tokens from telegram bot, and now it seems better if we want to follow the airdrop make sure the airdrop doesn't ask some money for gas fee.
It's clear that if Airdrop asks for a fee first, then my scamer doesn't believe it, because it often happens in airdrop telegram bot and it doesn't make sense that there is a giveaway asking for fees to redeem our rewards.

I don't like airdrops in the telegram bot mostly being rubbish and not useful to me.

I don't believe to all airdrop/give away event which ask to send my money first, I'll highly suspect that the airdrop will eventually scammed me.

I've been seen several cases especially in scam accusation board (you can check by yourself) there is a bunch of cases there.

That's my mainstay strategy when finding an airdrop, whatever their reason are, make sense or not I will not believe the event.

It's very unfortunate but it is true! Many scammers tend to use telegram bots to collect money from airdrop hunters. And unconsciously or consciously many newbies do fall into their trap. It looks that it becomes an easy way to generate good amount of ETH.

However, my advice to avoid the loss of money is that everyone should avoid sending any amount of ETH. Make a mindset not to pay even a single penny to these scam TG  bots. Because the legit and real AirDrops never ask to pay.

Be safe and protect your assets instead wasting them!

When I was new in cryptocurrency way back in the year of 2017, I was victimized by these scam airdrops in Telegram because it is too good to be true that I could easily earn crypto by just clicking the button every seconds. Good thing, my friend confronted me when he knew that I do airdrops in Telegram, and says it is just a scam. After that, I started to realized that I waste my time participating in those fake Airdrops in Telegram, and didn't earn a single cryptocurrency.

for the record, if there is an airdrop or bounty that asks for payment at the beginning, whatever the reason may be, it's better not to continue. because it is definitely a scam, you will be tricked over as payment of gas costs. in fact, many airdrops that require kyc now are not trusted.
