It will not be easy for the Tsitsipas to reach the top because you can see the points difference is very high from the No 1 position of Nadal to the no 6 position of Tsitsipas .

agree, and Tsitsipas has a lot of points to defend in first part of the season, SF at Australian Open for example, Medvedev and Thiem are in a lot better position

but, there is one step for all of them, and that is to get the title on a grand slam, since there are five set matches, and Djokovic and Nadal, with Federer of course, are dominating the grand slam competition since Wawrinka took the title on US Open in 2016, while only six players won the title on grand slam in this decade (these four plus Cilic and Murray)

Both Tsitsipas and Thiem have to do a lot of hard work if they are to compete with Nadal and Djokovic. All the grand slam are being shared between these two for this year.

Australian & Open Wimbledon won by Novak Djokovic

French Open & US Open won by Rafael Nadal

2020 might be a break out year for some of the young players we have. Because we don't know if the big 3 can still maintain their positions because sooner or later either of the three are going to retire (because of injuries). I wanted to see someone new winning the grand slams next year, and it could be a sign that we will see "changing of the guards" very soon in tennis. Maybe it's hard to imagine Djokovic, Nadal and Federer not winning any slams in 2020, but they know that it's going to be very difficult as new set of players are hungry to break their monopoly.

I think that we are living in a new tennis era. Tsitsipas is going to have an incredible season in 2020 if he keeps himself away from injuries.
It is a great chance now to climb the ladder now and reach the top. He has all the fonds to win the difficult opponents as he is on a great form.

I have already predicted that Tsitsipas would win the tournament as he had shown a greater talent than Thiem. Also Thiem was under pressure because he was the favorite of the two  while Tsitsipas look relaxed and played a great game in the final.

I remember watching Russian up and coming player Karen Khachanov play excellent tennis in the Paris Masters final in 2018. He won that by defeating Djokovic. I had hopes he would break through and get to quarter-finals and semi-finals of all Grand Slams in  2019 but he did virtually next to nothing. He is now 23 years old and is very talented.

Medvedev (another Russian just 23 years old) on the other hand broke through and had an excellent 2019 getting to the US Open final and nearly winning it. I think he will be consistent.

Tsitsipas is 21 years old, had a good year end but I cannot see him winning a grand slam just yet. I cannot see Zverev getting there just yet either. Of the chasing pack Medvedev and Thiem are the more likely to win one. Maybe if Thiem gets to the Roland Garros final again he will win it after all he had two consecutive finals only to be beaten by Nadal on both occasions.

Of the 4 grand slams I think 2020 will still belong to Nadal, Djokovic and Federer in the sense that all three should get to the quarter-finals of all grand slams and at least 2 of the 4 grand slams will be going their way.

It has ended.

Thiem is the runner-up and Tsitsipas is the winner of the ATP world final 2019.

Haven't seen the full match, but Tsitsipas was down in the first set and then come back strong in the last two? that's amazing. I think this will be the start of the next generation players to be in the forefront and replace the big 3. Nothing to be ashamed of for Thiem though, he also play high level tennis in this tournament.

I was disappoint to see two of my favorite players Federer and Nadal out of the Finals. I was expecting one of these two reach the final but none of them could made it. Tsitsipas has a greater chance of winning the final but I will be missing the legends in the final of ATP.  Cry

I think the winner will be Thiem.

Seeing the history Thiem chances are more bright than Tsitsipas. Here are few stats to support

-Stefanos Tsitsipas is rank 6 while Thiem is at rank 5
-Dominic Theim has beaten Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and the Pervious champion Alexander Zverev for reaching the final.
-Head to head Thiem wins 4 matches and Tsitsipas has won 2 matches.

Too many unforced errors cost Federer the match and a place in the final. Tsitsipas is in the final.

Zverev the reigning champion is out and Thiem is through to the final.

It was an interesting year-ender for the big 3. Although they will keep their standing, (1) Nadal, (2) Djokovic and (3) Federer this year. But it looks like there could be changing of the guards next year as a lot of young and upcoming players are really giving them a run for their money specially in this tournament. Now its Tsitsipas vs Thiem in the finals. But we are still at awe with the big 3, specially Federer nearing 40 but still giving players in their 20's a good match.

So the semi-final line is:

Federer vs Tsitsipas

Zverev vs Thiem

Will be an amazing semi-finals  Grin

Greek topped Federer, it is almost incredible how poor Swiss was, definitely overwhelmed after big win vs. Djoker. Federer was so nervous from the start, made too many unforced errors, desperate break point conversion ratio (if I remember well he ended up with 1/12 bps converted). In post-match conference he claimed two missed overheads caused his downfall.
Also I strongly believe Djokovic was less than 100% fit/healthy in London.
Nadal as usual offered great fighting spirit but these indoor conditions simply don't suite his game style.
Thiem is that silent boy who offered incredible level vs Djoker, if he can re-produce that form/level he will claim London title.
p.s. Just the way I see things in tennis in recent days

Federer absolutely demolished Djokovic. What a tennis lesson Federer dished out and took revenge for losing the Wimbledon final. Just look at him moving around the court so gracefully at the age of 38. Great display by Federer tonight.

From the Group Bjorn Borg it now means Thiem and Federer are through to the semi-finals and Djokovic and Berretini go home.

Thanks to Federer in means Nadal will finish as end of year World #1, Djokovic #2 and Federer #3

From Group Andre Agassi only Tsitsipas is through to the semi-final. If Tsitsipas beats Nadal then even Medvedev can go through to the semi-final if he comprehensively beats Zverev. Any of those 3 could still qualify for the semi-final alongside Tsitsipas.

Tsitsipas completely dominated Zverev. What a win for Tsitsipas, he is through to the semi-finals. He plays Nadal on Friday and Nadal must win for any chance of getting through to the semi-final. If Zverev beats Medvedev and Nadal beats Tsitsipas it will be close to see who actually qualifies alongside Tsitsipas.
If both of them wins their match it will come down to who gave up the least sets. Zverev has a  higher chance of qualifying because he had the less sets given up only 2 so far while Nadal gave up 3 but still possible for Zverev to drop a set. If they both have the same amount of sets given up it will come down to who gave up the least number of games and still Zverev has the lead (17:18) (25:28) because Nadal lost a set against Medvedev.

Tomorrow we have the big match, the final Round Robin matches of Bjorn Borg Group: Federer vs Djokovic. The winner goes in to the semi-final and the loser goes home.

Thiem is already through to the semi-finals even if Berrettini beats him and Berrettini will go home and not qualify for the semi-final regardless of loss or win.

The match against Tsitsipas would be very interesting.
I think that Tsitsipas has an advantage in this pairing as he is playing in a court that he is stronger. And apart from that he played incredible tennis against Medvedev and maybe he is in a top form of the season.

Well Tsitsipas plays Zverev later this evening and if he wins it means he is through to the semi-finals, that way he does not need to win that final Round Robin match against Nadal and no matter what Nadal cannot qualify for the semi-finals unless he wins.

If Zverev defeats Tsitsipas then Zverev is in to the semi-finals and makes it a must-win match for both Nadal and Tsitsipas because whoever wins will go through to the semi final and the loser will play their third Round Robin match and go home.

All the permutations will become clear this evening after Tsitsipas and Zverev finish their match.

Medvedev is up by one set against Nadal. Let's see how Rafa will respond on the second. The first set was close and it could have gone either way.

Federer is looking sublime, the man is a legend playing at 38 years old still world number #3
He continues to reinvent himself and adjust his style of play as he ages. He's become more crafty through the years and these younger players, even Nadal and Djokovic, are definitely learning from him.

I see that Nadal lost the game and one of the strongest player is out of the tournament. Also Djokovic lost his game and I think that Federer remains the player which has the biggest chances to win this tournament.I hope he does as he is one of the greatest players in tennis history.

In the Andre Agassi Group it means Nadal is not out of the tournament. He lost his opening match and in the Round Robin nobody goes home after the first match.

If Nadal loses his next match (which is against Mededev) then he is out. He must win his next two matches if he wants to progress to the semi-finals otherwise he is out but he is not 100% fit.

Whoever wins in the Zverev vs Tsitsipas match goes through to the semi-final and that means one other semi-final place will be decided later. It is very tight in that group as even Zverev who won his first match is not guaranteed a place in the semi-finals because mathematically all four of them can qualify if they win their remaining two games.

That is the beauty of the group stages of the ATP Finals. This is the only Tennis tournament that creates this atmosphere because it has the Round Robin and only the best 8 male players by ATP ranking points are able to participate in this tournament.

From the Bjorn Borg Group so far Thiem is already through to the semi-final because he won both matches (against Federer and Djokovic) so even if he loses his final round match Berrettini is the one going home.

With only one place remaining up for grabs it means the winner of the Federer vs Djokovic match will get there. This will be a great match to watch. Nadal is world Number #1 with a lead of just 645 points so Djokovic wants to win this tournament especially after being defeated by Zverev in the final last year and that would take him back to the top.

Federer on the other hand will stay world Number #3 even if he wins the tournament because he would still be around 1000 points behind Djokovic who is currently world #2. Federer recovered from his defeat to Thiem. After a close first set he comprehensively defeated Berrettini. Federer is looking sublime, the man is a legend playing at 38 years old still world number #3

Nadal, Djokovic, and Federer all lost one game each but they are not out yet.

Nadal will need two more wins if he's going to reach the semifinals but if loses in his upcoming match, he's out.
Whoever wins between Djokovic and Federer in their match tomorrow will advance.

Not a big tennis follower but some matches are really, really worth watching if you can spend an hour of watching!

Seems to me like the bookies were right so far on the odds, the old favorites aren't such big dogs these days. How many more years of Federer can we expect to enjoy do you think?

Federer seems like he can go on forever, he looks after his body so well living such a clean life. Djokovic is similar though, they are two of the greats ever to play tennis.

Well, Federer and Nadal are cherry picking tournaments that's why they have the ability to stay fresh although they have been in some kind of injury lately. Meaning you Father Time is already catching up with them. Thiem, Medvedev, Sinner, Tsitsipas will take over.

From the Bjorn Borg Group:

Matteo Berrettini has been beaten by Djokovic and Federer so it out of the competition.

Thiem has beaten both Federer and Djokovic so is through to the semi-finals. Well done to him.

Federer and Djokovic play on Thursday to decide who will join Thiem in the semi-finals

From the Andre Agassi Group:

Zverev battered Nadal but you could see Nadal was not 100% fit.

Tsitsipas beat Medvedev in a tight match.

The Nadal vs Medvedev and Zverev vs Tsitsipas matches are tomorrow. If Nadal loses his next match he goes home. Same two as the US Open Final which Medvedev played so well and nearly won.

Zverev vs Tsitsipas will be a great match to watch and guarantees one of them will go through to the semi-final.
