Thanks guys, I appreciate all of the insight and links. It does seem that use of BTC in Thailand is certainly gaining popularity.

My guess is that it has something to do with all of the new region specific business that allow the average user in Thailand the opportunity to easily buy sell RBT/BTC - aka ever since Q4 2014 - Q1 2015 three exchanges appeared, multiple atms, and mobile-phone BTC top-up (serviceshttps://bitcoin.co.th/topup/) on the scene.

Wooow thats nice i have a plan to visit thailand soon, by the way thanks for the info Cheesy

It's apparently quite a bit used. A quick search reveals localbitcoins action, a Bitcoin ATM somewhere and some restaurant accepting it.

A few months ago a cafe in Thailand appeared on reddit, offering Bitcoin payment option. If Bitcoin is illegal there... laws aren't working quite well Grin

i can confirm that, i have some friends there and still doing pretty good, hell, even more than in some other countrys.

Laws are not working anywhere well.
Specially not about something like Bitcoin.
Nothing cant prevent its growth.

haha, agree with you about it, laws are not working anywhere well Wink

I doubt a lot has changed since this article was posted on 20 August 2014 :
http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-ban-fear-fades-thailand-exchange-launch/
The last I heard of any bans on Bitcoin in Thailand was back in 2013. The last news update on one of their exchanges was in March of this year, so I guess they still active.
https://bitcoin.co.th/news/

Wikipedia has a page showing the legality of bitcoin in various countries. It gives similar information to your articles.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_bitcoin_by_country

Regarding Thailand it says the Bank of Thailand declared it illegal 2013, but some companies are still getting business licenses.

Bitcoin regulation could be like China in Thailand. There might be all sorts of rules about what you can do with bitcoins, but perhaps it's not technically illegal. There were countless stories saying China had banned bitcoin, but none of them had got their facts straight.

Can anyone from the region describe what the environment right now in Thailand for users of Bitcoin? I know BTC was dubbed illegal in 2013, but has this really had an affect on its use?

I appreciate any insight, googling and prodding the interwebs did not yield much help  Undecided
