I agree Bitcoin has the network effect on its side. It's gonna grow a lot more over the coming years. Big question is how much alts will benefit in its shadow.

just sharing here, if bitcoin is dead in the future, then it is hard to see the Alts continue to thrive as it is now. although both serve totally different purpose.

OP - I will always have a btc for some months in my portfolio as that is the only coin which is giving me a return rest all of the altcoin is only falling. SO in coming time will invest in altcoin once it has bottomed out and can buy very easily at lower price and then can get some quick gains in coming months .  But for now btc should be in one's coin investment.

Yes, Bitcoin is one of the best investment, my on top of the list. Op lists, was good surely research done before investing since we have different altcoins in portfolio but bitcoin is on the top.
Bitcoin is one of the oldest and at the time the most reliable coins, which in 99% gives you the opportunity to earn by just holding it in your wallet.

i agree that BTC eventually disappearing is a possible scenario, although unlikely. however, i don't think that it would happen as a crash (in which case the whole crypto market as it is currently structured would crumble), but rather as a slow and gradual exit due to BTC's use limitations in real life.
this said, BTC's role is so pivotal by now that i think it's there to stay, even if only as a store of value and nothing else. however, it's not bad to think along different future scenarios...

Sorry  maybe you don't  understand that bitcoin can die  from one day to oneather, but the  blockchain tecnology  has  attracted the main stream  investitors  and the   banks, because it  solves  a   big problem in automatization and  distribuited ledger

So  please,  don't  be  blind ''buy bitcoin, buy  bitcoin, buy bitcoin''..  it's  risky  because  when bitcoin will crash,  it  will dump so hard.

Some  altcoins   will remain  because  they have  a  real  world  purpose:  walton chain, IOT, Modum

Maybe  you  don't   know  about  these, you  only say ''buy  bitcoin ,  buy bitcoin,  buy blindly bitcoin''

Put  all your trust in bitcoin..  what  else can I say to  you,  my friend...

EXCEPT -- currently, when you buy an altcoin, you buy it with BTC (possible ETH, but most likely BTC). Also, that altcoin you just purchased with BTC holds value in direct comparison with BTC.

So whether you like it or not, you are trusting BTC when you buy an altcoin. Some would argue you are trusting in BTC MORE when you buy alts rather than BTC because there is no quick "out".

If all your money is in BTC -- and it crashes entirely -- at least you will have the time and ability to bail before you lose everything.

If all your money is in 12 different alts and BTC crashes (meaning your alts are crashing as well), now you have to sell them for the crashing BTC, and then sell your BTC for fiat.

That being said -- I don't hold much BTC. I hold numerous alts... because I have faith in BTC.  Cool

Trends change quickly in this space. Last summer many could state "put all your trust in alt coins" as you could basically throw a dart at a board of alt coins and it would likely out perform bitcoin. Each has cycles that outperform others, just as ICOs had a recent bull market. You have to anticipate what the crowd is doing and try to avoid that. What most people are doing is profitable for a time, but quickly shifts.

Saying that, yes, bitcoin has a lot going for it right now but I don't see that lasting indefinitely. Alt coins will have another bull market, so will ICOs, rinse and repeat.

Bitcoin can't die so easily. It is because of Bitcoin that the altcoins exist. If there was no Bitcoin, altcoins would not exist.
They use the same blockchain technology. Bitcoin is the father of the altcoins. Altcoins are just trying to innovate the use of the blockchain.
Bitcoin will die if there is no miners. Altcoins depends on Bitcoin success and value.

This is my pick
1. Boscoin
2. Exscudo
3. Genesis vision
4. Atlant
5. Stashpay
6. Idex
7. Crypterium
8. Alloy

2 coin creating their own blockchain ( boscoin and exscudo )
6 coin created on erc20 ( for stashpay it will be changed to its own main net in 2018 q4 )

I have Exscudo but damn they slow as hell.

everyone thinks the bags they are holding are better than the rest. the readily is that they are all crap Cheesy
of course each and every one of these have been pumped and will be pumped too but that doesn't make they good "long term" things to hold.

for example ETH has lots of issues, not just scaling, but a lot of bugs and issues.
the others like Lisk, Waves, even ETH,... are all doing the same thing with lots of overhead. they are not exactly unique ideas. some do it better and with less bugs like LSK and some do it crappy, bloated and full of exploits like ETH.

in the end they will be replaced with a better replacement in a year!

Don't  wast money on bitcoin,  probably useless in the future.
yeah sure, the thing that most people know. the only thing that can actually call "currency" and "decentralized". the only thing that is being used as a "currency" by real people not just virtually claiming to do some shit. the thing that all speculators (even the negative ones) know has the best future.

you are suggesting we don't buy this thing.

such a good advice /s

First off, anyone who says Bitcoin is probably useless in the future, has lost all point on reality. Without Bitcoin, none of these alts would have a chance in hell.

Secondly, yes, the reality is that 99% of alt holders SAY their coins are the best but probably know deep down that they are just pumped crap.

Thirdly, I guess I am no different, but I buy my coins with some care, hoping for them to get profitable but with a longer timeframe in mind. A year is all right to wait, six months is the minimum I would wait. But the way Bitcoin is flying, we are all in for a very long wait! We're all winners if we come out of this with small profits. But we need to stop thinking in terms of x10 in 2 months.

ETH  IS  WORKING   to  solve scaling problems

Lisk  you  can create  DAPPS  with java script,  every  java script programmer    would  need it. Come on   think  about it.

Bitcoin  is only simbolic.  I  would  never  put   1K  on bitcoin   cause from a  day or  onether  it could  drop  so  heavly , SO heavly

I  would  prefer  to spread  among intersting projects  because bitcoin  MAY DIE,  but

BLOCKCHAIN WILL NOT  DIE .

NEVER

CAN YOU  understand THIS?

Boscoin can grow as long as the corelas support it. Aragon is very hopeful. The Iconomy price is too low.

Why not  IOTA   that  is  in testbet  with Micosoft?   A  really potencial  game  changer
Rather than IOTA and why you are not choosing lumens as the latest announcement from the microsoft that already built the payment system through stellar platform. Honestly, i was picking some coin that already released the worked product just like eidoo and another token just like metaverse claimed to be a better Chinese ethereum rather than Neo.
All of them are really potential game changer.
