Great update for BTC( I think only)
0.14 might not be that different when you look at front end panel, but there are some pretty interesting changes under the hood.
- "Assumevalid" blocks - should significantly speed up verification of blocks, it automates validation process by assuming that all transactions up to a certain block are valid
- Improved Fee Estimation - this is much needed functionality in the time of current high fees, with standard setting most transactions made from Bitcoin Core should confirm within an hour
- devs added option to boost your transaction by increase fee of already existing transaction
There are more upgrades and changes in Bitcoin Core 0.14 but these are the most interesting features IMO.

Nice performance, and now the wait to sync isn't desperating thinking you are making 0 progress because of the new window that shows remaining blocks.
There is a very trivial way to check what is going on with the synchronization. Help - Debug Console; look whether this number is incrementing:

Testing out Bitcoin Core 0.14 for the first time. The boot time was decreased (again, how do they do it? it keeps getting faster). Nice performance, and now the wait to sync isn't desperating thinking you are making 0 progress because of the new window that shows remaining blocks.
