Without the Soviet Union, the world would be a worse place. The Soviet Union pushed for things like the 8-hour workday, which became a global standard. It also gave working-class people the chance to rise to leadership positions, challenging the power of the rich elite.

The Cold War created a balance between socialism and capitalism, and this competition drove both sides to innovate and improve life for their people. Thanks to Soviet support, many third-world countries gained independence and better welfare systems. Without that backing, those countries would have struggled to stand up on their own and might have ended up being exploited, becoming nothing more than dumping grounds for waste from richer nations.
