Getgems once complete will be the most innovative im that will exists, with its ease of use it has to go mainstream before bigger companies implement a similar model.

So it's an application that accepts your Bitcoin deposits, but you can't withdraw Bitcoins from it.

HOW MANY OF THESE CAN I DOWNLOAD?

As Netnox mentioned in his post above, the next version of the app allows you to withdraw your coins to any address, so you can just wait for the next release if you don't trust it now.

The update to be able to send GEMZ/BTC outside the app is already out, i posted it in this Thread actually see here, click on the Android logo for download. In Google play you can set it to update automatically when there is a new update. There was also a Q&A covering many questions.

Why would I wait, when I could download an app that allows me to deposit Bitcoin but doesn't allow me to withdraw Bitcoin?  That's all you need, why wait for some promises of future fancy features?

PayCoin will SOON allow you to buy from Amazon.com!  Get it now, before it works!

People were saying and hyping this already for 4 months and nothing happened.

Which had been good for cultivating patience. Tongue

[ Seriously: GEMZ is a real gem, but it's going to take patience. Luckily, the altcoin bear market has done its part to tone down the freneticism 'round here.]

The alt development pace can mean good coins are superseded by something better very fast. I hope something does not usurp GEMZ while we are waiting.

I don't see anything on the horizon. The only extant competitor to GetGems is Nxtty, and it's not going anywhere at the moment. Getting a new system that's comparable to GetGems Messenger would take months: that's how long it took GetGems itself to get rolling.

But that said, the play for a gamblin' guy would be to pick up some Nxttycoin on the off chance that Nxtty will take off. Nxttycoins are really cheap now.

Nxtty is no competition for Gems. What Gems has going for it that any other messenger app like SENDIT for new users is the airdrop based on how many people you refer and your daily usage etc. That's a massive motivation for people to invite others. It will go viral very quickly once airdrop and IOS is in place. I don't expect these to take more than a month or two at most cause they sorted the Android version out in a few weeks.

Only like 250,000 people use Bitcoin but only thousands really keep up with the community, forums, et cetera.   I have no need for Gems as if I need somebody's address I'll ask for it.  If I want a messenger then I use something free with no ads like whatsapp and gems.   App to app calling?  So many apps have that planned and got millions to 600 million users.

Lol adding messenger to crypto is no game changer.  Gems was developer get quick rich scheme and all that guy did was fork telegram (approx cost: 1 cent to download the code and hobby hours.  Total profit: $999,999.99)

Well it's high number of downloads over so slow period of time but this isn't going to make altcoins mainstream, maybe the GEMZ one, maybe.

I'm going to do something I never do and go completely over the top and suggest this app could not only take Crypto mainstream but it might even change how the entire internet works.

Yeah the messenger app is cool and yeah its great if it get s people into crypto but the by far amazing thing about Gems is the advertising platform. Just imagine a system where advertisers have to pay the actual person they want to advertise to, at the moment that is Facebook, Snapchat and their owners, we are literally making billionaires out of people that want to bother us with adverts. Now imagine this app goes mainstream and then imagine this app develops into a full social media platform just like Kakao talk turned into Kakao Story, then go that last step to owning Search which is what FB is working on taking from Google as we speak ie content is looked at from inside the FB ecosytem.  Then literally internet search and advertising model that Google is so powerful for is taken away and given to the users. I know this is jumping forward way too much and looks foolish but I believe from this app a seed is planted that could in theory go that far.

Rather than messaging, I am impressed how it makes sending/receiving Bitcoins as easy as chatting on WhatsApp.

But how do you get your Bitcoins out? Is it possible to spend them on something from within the app?

From the q&a: It will be possible to send BTC/GEMZ outside the GetGems application. The next release of the app will already contain a feature allowing sending BTC/GEMZ to any known wallet address. This address does not necessarily need to be a GetGems user. The next release will not include a QR scanner, but one will definitely be added in the future.

You can spend GEMZ within the app when the advertising model is implemented.

New update where you can send btc/gemz outside the app.

Quote

1. Moved get wallet balance counterparty API calls to client in order to improve robustness. The old implementation involved making these API calls from the GetGems server which was causing problems.

2. Implemented two modifications to Counterparty API's which broke functionality. The Counterparty protocol has been slightly altered and these changes have been accommodated into the client. This fixes existing problems with getting wallet balance and sending BTC/GEMZ.

3. Added functionality in the wallet to send bitcoin/GEMZ to specific wallet addresses. The wallet address needs to be copied to clipboard. Instead of opening the chat to send money, the wallet can be opened, and then a dedicated screen for sending funds to address (see attached screenshot).

4. Improved activity fraud monitoring. We are preparing towards the beginning of the airdrop. In order to make sure the airdrop is fair, we are improving monitoring.

5. Added Chinese translation strings.

Gems is in the early devlopment phase.

1. The iOS has not been finished but will soon which is why supporters are holding back from inviting friends.

2. Ditto on the airdrop which is the most attractive reason to invite friends, again coming soon.

3. There has not been a messenger app that ever had a million downloads after a couple of weeks. It takes time to get the ball rolling and like I said the reason to invite isn't quite in place yet. The major apps we know today like Telgram and Whatsapp took as much as a year to really start getting popular.

4. I guess nothing happened means an increase in price? Well that's good news for anyone hearing this at still an early stage.
