Hi sir? i can't message you so i post here in your thread, Why you put some negative feedback in my profile i didn't scam any people Sad

Simply view it in this manner.

A person who has  an account here has some social associations with other people - in other words the other people "know" that person via that account. If ever in future that account has been sold then the socially associated people would not be able to decipher whether they are talking to the same old friend or lurking scammer. This is why account sales leads to scams.

Secondly accounts are sold here to get in signature and bounty campaigns. Which is fairly obvious why they are to be tagged.

I do not think that we should instantly tag people who fall under the category 'b' (which is not the case with OP). However, if the user displays a pattern of asking several members for this, we should tag them IMO. What do you think?

As stated by theymos:
Do not beg for merit excessively.

Thus, tagging them is justifiable.

There are different cases for this. IMO, people shouldn't:
a) Outright beg for merit.
b) Outright beg for post reviews via PM.

This is fair, but obviously it's gotta be looked at as individual cases.

For instance if someone that is actively advertising a service where they review posts, and they receive a PM to tell them to review/merit the post in question, then I doubt that there is much damage done.

But if there is a guy who goes around and PM's everyone that has replied to his topic for merits, then it qualifies as unsolicited spam IMO. And that, obviously, should be a negable offense at least in my opinion.

Begging for merits is essentially the same as begging for trust. Not much difference as both are indicators of an account's trustworthiness and quality.

- People who find 'ways' to distribute merit either by opening new threads or offering services should also be prohibited  as they inspire other shady activities to harness the merits.
- For instance, threads like this : https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/smerit-post-review-2819141 should also be discouraged.I see no point in doing it openly when you can just browse the forum and give merits if you come across a great post.

Seems like a good idea, since like atleast in the second case they're putting in some effort to actually post decent content. Better than just outright begging for merit with no real rhyme or reason.

Many users dislike people who buy/sell accounts.

The forum allows it, because there is no efficient way to stop it, but it's still viewed as unethical.

Woke up from my afternoon beauty nap to this PM:
hi sir, can you give me 10 merit? to increase my rank to member  Cry

So this is a message to adekpulpen and idiots like him:  If you PM me--or in any other way--asking for merit points, trust, or anything else that you have to earn on your own, I'm painting you red.  You really ought to know better than to ask someone like me for merit.  The sound of me slapping my forehead can be heard all over the eastern seaboard.

I created this thread so I'd have a valid reference link on his feedback.
