The concepts of Bank and/or fiat money are not inherently evil. The current financial system sucks big time, but that's a different story.

Lol it's funny OP should mention letter writing! I still write letters to friends and family and I still pay my utilities with checks (mainly because I like using stamps and fountain pens). So those things have not quite been obliterated. As far as bitcoin is concerned, it has a long way to go before it does away with banks and I don't suspect we'll get anywhere near that in our lifetime. Not sure it's going to happen at all, in fact.

We have made progress in spite of the fiat system, not thanks to it. Sure fiat made sense after a while when we didn't have alternatives, but after the gold standard was abolished, it still functioned for a while, but then the massive debt bubble started and it will explode in front of everyone.

I don't believe that will exist a day (not in in the future and not never) that will exist a world without banks or similar institutions which maybe will have other form, other structure or other tools in use or to use. Because will be always need for money for them who have ideas but not resources. Cannot be find money or similar tool which will play its role in the future or always if wouldn't exist the conditions to be taken. And these conditions can be offered only from the banks or their similars in the future.

people still write letters..

yes email streamlined and reduced the need for letters.. the same will happen with banks..
bank headquarters and services will not go, ATM's will not go. but the need for individual bank branches in each town will disapear

remember town bank branches are just limbs of a bank (limbs of tree's are called branches.. hense the name)
you can chop off the limbs but the roots and trunk will still exist.

I like the comparison tho, and it makes sense in a strange way. Our local Post Office is full of old people sending packages and the only mail I receive these days are either bills or advertisements. In due time, we might see empty buildings were banks used to be.

Times and needs are changing and the banks has to adopt or die.
