I am a beginner who completely wasted the opportunity to be a useful user on the forum. Registered an account since 2018 and left it unmanaged because I wasn't really interested in knowing many thing about bitcoin, the cryptocurrency before. But 2021 is a big surprise to me because I have a few altcoin that I bought since 2 years ago at a low price and now they have all given me very satisfying return. I am grateful for that.
You are lucky you made a profit this bull run many are crying because they sold their coins before this bull run, you are not yet late in coming back to the forum and learning all about Cryptocurrency, all the information that you need to learn are open and you just need the time to digest it and learn it.

Right now, I really want to gain experience, knowledge and skills to become a useful user of this forum. I'm trying to understand a lot more rule, but many of them are very confusing. Without having to complain, I think it's about time I understood each rule in the right way. I hope you can help guide me in a better direction.
I don't think they are confusing if you are confused then ask and specify what forum rules that you think are confusing, we are thousands here and you'll get answered about forum rules that you think is confusing, the best place to start is the meta and here in the beginner's section

Please tell me the correct order to start with. Can you recommend a bitcoin wallet that's good enough to use and compatible with mobile? Someone told me Electrum, is it really the recommended wallet?
Electrum is good and so is Exodus but it's not the wallet it's more on how you can secure and protect your wallet, you can start by educating yourself about protection.

I think from those years you leave it's good to stake some coin imagine right now the value of it mostly those coins become profitable and gives a good profit to you right now. One of the best wallets that I recommend too is the electrum you check here.

Code:
https://electrum.org/#download

There is a lot of fake electrum website and electrum wallet today so be careful always check the website URL.

Find more knowledge about cryptocurrency at Binance Academy if you want to learn. But I suggest you have a special interest here if the goal is to make money. One of the options I mean is trading, you may have different interest and can you tell us specifically. I want to know what you are interested in. Beforehand, welcome to the forum.

You can also use google for doing that and just add at the end Bitcointalk on it and it will show you the most of Bitcointalk posts and threads related to your Question.
Sometimes its a bit tricky for new Users to know where the things are , but with time comes Experience .

I think reading about cryptocurrency is the best way to start, even if we tell you about something, it will be very hard for you at the moment, try to read some articles and books, then try to learn about tradings and how it works, experiencing something is better actually, read then apply is the one-two combination about crypto, but what particular about crypto you are interested in? you said you have some altcoins so you already have experience maybe you just need to try what you did before but now, you need to be very careful.

would you mind sharing what rule you are having trouble understanding? perhaps the members can explain it in a different way so that you can properly understand it. also, don't be afraid to complain and express it. sometimes complaining is a way of Identifying problems that others are missing or ignoring.

anyway, others have already suggested things for you to follow I suggest you check into it.

Actually many newbies came to that point since first no one guide them to grow here, also there interest is to earn quick bucks but suddenly their expectation didn't meet thats why they left same as you.

But what good thing there is you realize the things you miss after you left and its not the end of all since you ,an start again.

Also go get some new learnings as many tutorial thru discussion made by the users and if you interested to trade better to stay on altcoin section since you can learn more about various altcoin aside from bitcoin.

And you already got it electrum is one of the best wallet but make sure you grab the right app since there are so many fake apps around.

I thank anyone who has been willing to help. I am here to learn and want to know many things about bitcoin. I currently have a few dollar from my 2 year hold  still on the exchange and want some of it to be kept safe. I managed to install Electrum on current mobile and laptop and learned to sign message. I managed to do it, but I don't know whether the step I took was right or not. Hopefully that's true and here it is.

Code:
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
I am NR 007 from bitcointalk. Today is April 16, 2021 and I signed a message for my bitcoin address.
-----BEGIN SIGNATURE-----

-----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----

You should probably move your post to this thread. If you did everything right, there is a chance to get some merits. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/merit-hey-newbies-can-you-sign-a-message-5300698
And also check everything about the security of your wallet. Have you learned how to keep a safe backup of your seed? So that in the event of a loss of your device, you can recover all the data without unnecessary worry.

This might be a deep and unique suggestion, but I would still want to ask you. Why are you back? if you were back, make sure that you have some goals to reach and some things to learn. It is really hard for anyone to maintain motivation and returning in this forum now requires strong dedication on both "contributing" and learning.

With regards to where should you really start, in technical terms, kindly read all forum rules and newbie suggestions that you can locate either on Meta or Beginners and Help. Then post and reply only on things that you have idea with. Yet, if you don't really have any idea then be free to reply but with a sense of a good questioning. With regards to wallet software on mobile, I prefer using Trust Wallet. It is simple and supports tons of crypto.

If you have trouble understanding bitcoin technically, treat your bitcoin and other crypto like a fiat currency which you can send and receive to other users and from other users. You don't have to be a technically knowledgeable bitcoin user unless you're interested in doing so. Just understand the basic of bitcoin, its uses, and what you can do with it.

Because you told us about an asset you had previously purchased, you should now think about moving it to a secure wallet (if you don't intend to sell it) because I don't think the exchange is a safe place of storage in the long run. You are lucky enough to have bought it for a low price and you can still access the account.

Please tell me the correct order to start with.
1. Have a secure wallet to store your asset. If you have bitcoin, then Electrum is one of the recommended wallet for PC and mobile.
2. Obey all the rule that apply on the forum. There are 33 written rule that you must obey to make you a good user.
3. Find the potential that exists in you which will be useful for developing knowledge and experience while you are in the forum.
4. Know how you can be promoted and what you must do to earn merit.

Right now you are a newbie who doesn't have much knowledge, but if you have a passion and interest in bitcoin then do it consistently because that's how your knowledge will develop. Rest assured, if you want, you can.

Just do not make it hard on yourself, just go on this slowly and steady, and understanding all the posts you are reading on this forum. Try to read about these online:

  • bitcoin and crypto wallets
  • exchanges
  • ICO/IEO, DeFi and NFT
  • Bitcoin and crypto scam generally
  • custodial and noncustodial wallets
  • custodial and noncustododial exchanges

Try to read mastering bitcoin

Please tell me the correct order to start with. Can you recommend a bitcoin wallet that's good enough to use and compatible with mobile? Someone told me Electrum, is it really the recommended wallet?
If you are looking for good bitcoin wallet, electrum is the best. It is open source. You can download it from https://electrum.org/#home, and click on download.

Make sure you verify the signature. To know how to verify the signature, you can use the link below.

You don't need "skills" to be an user on here. Pave your path by participating in threads you're interested in and asking questions whenever there is one. You mostly need knowledge for merits. But as a newbie, you'll gather merits by asking questions as well. The more you're truly interested in the subject, the higher the chances of getting a merit are.

Since you have already asked a good question as a beginner, I'll give you your first Merit. Welcome back. Smiley

A good Bitcoin wallet is one that is non-custodial and open-source. If a wallet's devs aren't fully transparent, their product should be placed under a big question mark. Why create a closed-source wallet for an open-source currency?

For desktop, I highly recommend Electrum. Whatever wallet you choose, remember to always keep a secure backup of your seed. Unless you have that backed up somewhere safe, if your phone/PC ever dies you'll lose your funds. For mobile, I'd recommend Mycelium, Electrum or Blockstream's Green wallet - exactly in this order, descending by personal choice. Mycelium for having lots of features, Electrum for their very basic UI and Green for the fancy design and as a little support for being on F-Droid. Smiley

Newbies - Read Before Posting, this is a very useful thread for newbies, it contains the forum rules and other useful information for new members (though you're technically not new to the forum)

You are on the right track, if you have done your research on Bitcoin and decided to hold some of it, a wallet is the next step to take;
Electrum is a good recommendation, it's mobile friendly, open source and non custodial.
You should also remember that you are your own bank, so the safety of your funds is solely your responsibility.
