Super Mario RPG Legend Of The Seven Stars

Maybe it's just because of the nostalgia from my childhood, as I have played a ton of RPG games,  being that they are my favorite genre of video games. I don't think they make role playing games like they used to anymore! Games are made to appeal to a different generation of gamers, there is alot of hand holding these days in video games.
I still remeber when games where Nintendo hard! No save points, and 30 character alpha numeric passwords, whereas if you miss one character, you mess up the entire save point.

Well for me i thought played all RPG games in my childhood days and i prefer Online Games with cool stories as in old school like Cabal Online, RF Online and the best for me is Ran Online i even played Dragon Nest which will amaza you with its environment gameplay though i still prefer ran online for me.

The Final Fantasy series and Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross. FF6, FF9 and Chrono Trigger in particular blew me away when they first came out.

I wish they did the whole multiple endings thing justice like they did in Chrono Trigger after playing through the main story.  It wasn't just that there were multiple endings but they came at different points in the story leading to new paths and some were rather clever.  The whole altering timelines thing was really neat.
True, I don't think I've ever played another game that has done time lapses as well as Chrono Trigger did.

The Witcher series is the best

For the longest time I stayed away from Witcher 3 because I just wasn't feeling like being a Monster hunter.

But once I started playing - it is probably one of the best RPGs out there.  A lot of fun with some interesting mechanics.  Replay value is great as decision make a big impact on different story lines. The mechanics are great.  The humor is great.  Everything is great.  Up there with Fallout 4.

If you are looking for a fairly linear rpg with set story options, I can't personally provide many suggestions in that vein of the genre.
1. Borderlands. Magitech fantasy, multi player. This game is highly quest and story driven. Really, really. It can be played over LAN.
2. Drakensang. High fantasy, single player. Quite enjoyable, (I believe) German game.

If, however, you are looking for a "sandbox" rpg with limited forced story, I have a few suggestions:
1. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. High fantasy setting, single player. This game is really fantastic. Graphics-wise it can be so beautiful but will also run on lower-end pc builds. The game right out of the box (you see it referred to as vanilla Oblivion) is quite fun, but once you get tired of the muddy textures and empty landscape you can turn to the modding community for their expansive content.
2. Ultima Online. High fantasy setting, mmo. This is a 2.5 dimension game with mediocre graphics, but it has the best mechanics for an mmorpg I've ever experienced. Official pay to play servers are still being run I believe, but they may not have much in the way of support or events.
3. Fallout 3. Apocalyptic fantasy, single player. This one is great if you like guns and dingie-ness. I'm pretty sure the entire game world is covered in a thin film of icky. The story is slightly more linear than an mmo or Oblivion, but it's still pretty much choose your own.
4. Dragon Age: Origins. High fantasy, single player. I haven't actually played this game, but I've heard lots of great things about it. I'm really really looking forward to trying it. It's also modable and already has quite a following.
5. Ragnarok Online. Fantasy/Steam punk, mmo. This is a simple, fun, 2.5 dimension mmorpg. Limited character customization, and really simple level and stat advancements. Most of the "quests" are kill a monster for loot quests, but if you meet a couple of cool people it can be really fun to go kill monsters together and gain levels.

Best RPGs you say? I'd say Dark souls II Scholar of the First sin (and others Dark souls games, but they are a bit worse). I also love Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen a whole lot. It would be a mistake not to mention any of the TES series. I'd reccomend TESIV Oblivion, just because it provides infinite ammounts of fun, nice story (better than in skyrim to be sure) and lots of quests, compared to most modern RPGs. Witcher 3 is extremely good too - highly reccomend to check it out too.

Hands down, it would be final fantasy 7! Story is awesome, characters are diverse and the freaking gameplay is hard as balls. It is the only final fantasy game franchise that i had trouble completing 100% with all the summons and equipment there is. When i heard that there will be a reboot, i really wished that it would have the same everything but the graphics will be dope
